Xenoblade Chronicles 3 launches tomorrow, and before many get their hands on the game, the RPG's day one patch is now available. The changes are reasonably minor and mainly focused on the Expansion Pass and in-game menu accessibility, as well as standard bug fixes, but it ensures keen adventurers will be all set to explore Aionios.
The full patch notes have been published by Nintendo (thanks to Nintendo Everything for the translation) and can be found below:
Ver. 1.1.0 (Released July 28, 2022)
- Added the ability to receive items distributed via the Expansion Pass. (After downloading the Expansion Pass, an “Expansion Pass” option will be added to the Main Menu, letting you receive the distributed items.)
- The Main Menu can now be opened by pressing the X button during gameplay.
- Several issues have been fixed in order to ensure a more comfortable gaming experience.
We have literally hours before we all can get stuck into Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and this first patch should help us ease into this titanic world. And in case its imminent release tomorrow isn't enough to tempt you, then you should check out our glowing review of the game:

For a day one update its almost nothing. Damn Monolith really did a good job
My most anticipated game of the year. Amazon better deliver my copy tomorrow or I won't be a happy camper.
@CorePrideX Not surprising. According to rumors the game has been finished for a while now (and the fact that they could release it 1-2 months early heavily supports that rumor) so they probably had more than enough time to polish the game
The next approximately 24 hours is going to be a very painful wait (I'm getting physical), was hoping that the MK8 Deluxe maintenance would've helped with that. Really excited to get into this game tomorrow.
You can’t see it but I’m popping confetti for all the people you can’t wait to play this game, because I know it’s probably going to be me in a wile.
My copy arrived this morning so I'll be playing it as soon as I get home this evening.
"-The Main Menu can now be opened by pressing the X button during gameplay."
I'm having ptsd of opening the map by mistake in Xenoblade Chronicles 2
So much looking forward to playing it. ACG loved it, all the ensurance I need 🙂
I did order 2 copies from 2 different sites. Just to be sure it arrives tomorrow.
Did you guys have the day one patch for the review?
Also if I buy the game off the store will I be able to play at 12am tonight? (UK)
@UltimateOtaku91 It depends on your region and when the game unlocks. Since 3DS Retail Downloads, a game would unlock at 12AM Eastern, meaning if you lived on the West Coast of North America, you could play the game at 9PM once all of the data has downloaded/final bit of data has downloaded from the preload. I know this worked for Smash Ultimate a few years ago, since it's a first party Nintendo game, I imagine it would unlock at 12AM Eastern.
Damn lazy developers and day one updates. What’s even the point of physical anymore
And therefore the physical version is pointless, well done
I really wish I was 13 again and had a whole summer playing games like this.
Been working since I was 14…and this year in particular has been such a drag
@UltimateOtaku91 Yes you can - apparently CET is one hour ahead of UK time and for me all major nintendo releases become playable at 1 A.M.
@sixrings a few reasons one is the game is yours and you can play the game as long as the cart works.. with digital the games is never yours..second you can trade the game in or sell it for cash if you have to..
Only 9 hours and 40 minutes left!
I've received my shipping notification....The game unfortunately isn't due to arrive until Monday. I suppose it's for the best; my weekend is turning into quite the busy one, so I won't have hardly any time to enjoy it anyway.
@wanghosom It happened… so… many… times… and then you have to wait 30 seconds to get out of the map. I think that was about an hours wasted for me.
My copy should be here tomorrow. I'm surprised it hasn't shipped yet. Then again, Live A Live shipped on release and it was delivered the same day. Not that it matters to have it on release. It will be sitting on the shelf for a while anyways...
I feel like that "you can now press X to open the main menu" update was done just so they could flip people who break the street date
@UltimateOtaku91 12.01am your local time usually. I'm in UK and have it downloaded and ready to go for midnight tonight. Can't wait.
I more than likely won’t say this again in a long time, but thank god I work 10 hours today to help feel like time is speeding up - I need this game, like yesterday. My anticipation is through the roof.
@Knuckles @Darylb88 @Neph thanks for the replies, just pre ordered it and looks like I'm going to be knackered at work tomorrow 😅
Hoping my copy arrives on time so I can get it updated and binge this weekend! Xenoblade is my favorite JRPG series and since the first game, NONE have ever arrived on time. Maybe this one will break the cycle!
I do have one question, and it might sound silly - When you are free roaming the map to your next objective, is your weapon visible on your back? I’ve seen multiple videos and screenshots that don’t display it, and that’s one thing I really loved in prior games. Or perhaps there is a toggle switch for it? Any answer or insight would be much appreciated!
@BlackMayge No the weapons phase out of thin air. But it's a boon at the same time because you don't have to wait for the sheathe animation every time.
@Tyranexx that stinks! Where did you buy from?
More comfortable gaming experience? Does this mean jumping from heights no longer makes you fell like you're gonna boot?
@Lolcat Dang - that’s a bummer, but I guess it makes sense and will also speed up combat.
Why not at least make the Day One patch on Cart before they release the game? What's so hard?????? Some of us don't have 1tb or bigger or slots that hold more then one sd card to give storage. Why not use 32/64/128gb sd cards instead they bleed enough blood from us already.
@NintendoByNature The My Nintendo Store. On one hand I'm one of the lucky ducks who's certain to get the SE content later this year, which I'm fine waiting for. On the other, I was REALLY hoping they'd ship the physical game out earlier (It's via UPS, which I've had mixed results with). Kinda hoping the system speeds it up to Saturday, but I wouldn't get a lot of time with it; my afternoon and evening are booked. Sunday isn't much better.
@Bunkerneath how does this make the physical version pointless? It’s still a playable game that can be traded or sold
I received my copy yesterday, patch downloaded without fuss.
OMG - The music is like nothing else.
You couldn't open the menu with X to start with?! I hope the buttons are better than XC2
I have it all preloaded so I'll just pop onto my switch and make sure it's updated for the midnight release!
@SwitchForce you really stressing over 70MB?
@Kid_Sickarus seriously this is like the best possible scenario.
Has anyone in the US who purchased the special edition from the Nintendo store had their copy ship yet?
@sixrings @bunkerneath physicals are about ownership, not archival
@Kid_Sickarus Once the servers go down and you want to go back and play it then the physical will be flawed and not the complete game on the cartridge.
@Bunkerneath so in this example where you delete your local data, the game is no longer hosted to redownload but you want to go back and play- a “flawed” physical copy is inferior to a no longer existent digital copy how?
My copy of the game won’t arrive today
so I’ll go get it myself in the store
@contractcooker you really stressing over 70MB?
you betcha space is a constraint on Switch it's not like you can internally expand storage beyond the single sd slot if they gave us two slots that can go 2tb each. I wouldn't worry??
@SwitchForce
MicroSD cards are cheap.
I’ve got forty plus games on my 256gig card I payed twenty bucks for back in 2019 when I got my Mariko Switch. I’ve still got 50 gigs free.
But then I buy all Switch games digitally. The only physical game I have is Smash Ultimate and that’s because someone on Craigslist sold it to me for 30 bucks.
@SwitchForce
If you buy physical then just get a 64gig card for next to nothing off of eBay or Amazon.
Unless you’re playing games like 2K or Bioshock collection that card will handle updates and save data for hundreds of games.
@Bunkerneath
Why?
Name me one game on any platform over the past ten years that didn’t require a day one patch.
I can’t think of any.
