Update [Wed 6th Jul, 2022 02:15 BST]: Nintendo has now confirmed Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle will be the next free trial game for North America. It's available to Switch Online subscribers at no additional cost from now until 12th July. Enjoy!
Original article [Tue 5th Jul, 2022 04:30 BST]: Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope was one of the many highlights at the recent Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase. And ahead of its release later this year, Nintendo has announced a free trial for the first game exclusive to Switch Online subscribers.
At the moment, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is only available as a free trial to subscribers located in Europe, Australia and New Zealand at the moment, but if this follows the pattern of a lot of other trials, it should be made available elsewhere in time.
If you are located in this region and happen to have access to Switch Online, you'll be able to download and play the trial from now until 10th July. While you're at it, be sure to check out our recent coverage of the upcoming release, Sparks of Hope - including another look at the gameplay:

Preety sure with all the discounts. Everyone already has this game
Now this is something I'm interested in!
"only in Europe"
God dam-
With how often this game's on sale for rock bottom prices I'd imagine most people who are interested would already have it. Why I also find it kind of headtilting why someone would get the sequel at launch, it'll be available for at least like half the price in a year anyway.
I tried it and only managed to get through the first 2 levels. The combination of frame rate and camera movement made me feel sick.
@Lizuka yeah, Ubisoft devalues their games so quickly.
I already bought it though, because I can’t wait to play it. Bought it for 45 euro (already had a discount).
Pretty sure I picked it up for like $5, kind of a weak trial but their endgame is to get people to shell out for the new one. Understandable I suppose.
@GX_64 Perhaps your eyes need fixing. Never noticed a single frame rate issue.
@GX_64 what a load of nonsense you just spouted!
A great game. Whole household loved it actually.
Yeah I can’t say I much care for how it auto-installed the demo and pushed it to the front of my games. Especially not when I have played the game and all it’s DLC already. Hopefully there is a way to turn that off for future ones, but it’s never done it before for me.
Anyway. This is a great game. Though I won’t be buying the sequel due to Ubisoft’s current NFT scam push. Even if it’s not in this game specifically (which I doubt Nintendo would let it be).
@Ogbert Yep, I didn't like this auto-install feature I never turned on or agreed with. I browsed the system options but didn't find any.
I've told myself it's OK to buy a Ubisoft game if it's Sparks of Hope. But absolutely any whiff of microtransactions, NFTs, or anything else *****-flavored and I'm out... please don't let me down because the game looks cool!
@Ogbert i noticed this with stardew valley last month as well.. it seems it updates the game to allow for this...
And they're really pushing the game, one of this weeks NSO missions was playing it as well (since i haven't finished the DLC yet, this let me to play some missions yesterday evening .. i just let me be led by big N..)
Got the Gold Edition of this game on sale ages ago (it’s perpetually on sale) and I was pleasantly surprised how good it is. And I don’t even really dip into strategy RPG’s, but this game was a treat. Easy to grasp and lots of charm & wit throughout.
Currently playing through the Donkey Kong DLC right now after a couple years of not touching the game after I finished the main base portion. Hopefully the sequel improves an already terrific experience!
… Wun can only hope.
@iLikeUrAttitude confirmed for us lol
These NSO trials are cool and all and definitely add value to the service, but I really dislike downloading an entire game (2.4gig for this specifically) just to play it for a few days and then delete it, (especially with my download rates 😨).
Maybe NSO EP subscribers could play longer like a week extra?
Although they really don't want you finishing it, then you would have little reason to buy it, and this whole scheme is inarguably just an ad (gotta sell games somehow).
I guess this will give me a better reason to actually try this game out. Has always looked interesting and surprised it worked out so well given that it was a big question mark when it first was announced
I know people have nothing but great things to say about this game, I can't get past those cringy, Minions-esque Rabbids. I want to say I'll finally try it through this free trials, but I know I won't lol
I bought the Gold Edition during the MAR10 Day discount and I'm having a blast. I originally loaned a copy from someone back in 2018 as one of my very first Switch games, so this game has been quite nostalgic as well.
I actually finally opened the physical copy I purchased on Black Friday for $10, a couple weeks ago. I've been progressing through the game until Fall Guys released. Now that game is currently occupying my time. But I was really enjoying it and plan to return.
@TheBigK a Minions/Rabbids crossover would doom us all.
@Friendly Which sux, since, imo, M+R is a great old time
