Here's what's included in the new update:
- Translation fixes
- Fixed cheat codes showing up without unlocking
- Added option to hide the Photo Mode overlay
- Improved gyroscope
- Added voice-over in credits
- Added option for muting reload voice-over
- Added touch support and options UI tweaks
- Fixed the player not taking damage penalty from killing scientist when having invulnerability status
- Fixed life-up popup not showing up when given medkit during the cutscene
- Fixed creature sounds messing up when changing selection quickly in Bestiary

- Other minor tweaks
Not a bad little list! We mentioned in our review of the game that the gyro controls can be a bit of a pain in the backside, so to see this improved is more than welcome.

All I really want is an old school light gun
Happy about the update. The game is a lot of fun.
I've got it and I like it a lot, but until I can put my joycon in a plastic shaped gun, its not really a true HotD experience
"Improved gyroscope" is important to me. But would need thoughts from players and reliable ones at that
@Bunkerneath Yes, if they would bundle it with a Wii-style IR-pointer and sensor bar, I'd buy it instantly!
I guess that, like Panzer Dragoon Remake, it's one of those cases of poor day one releases continuously getting fixed but people just losing interest and keep saying the game is bad.
Maybe these cases deserve a little post with a quick review about to what extent have the patches enhanced the game.
Jesus Christ finally, we've been waiting for this patch for like 3 months already......
@Itachi2099 unless you’re praying I don’t think it’s needed to bring peoples myths or Gods into it.
@fox_mattcloud you can get a shotgun/rifle looking holder for the joycons.
The gyro aiming is way better now, more or less comparable to the Wiimote. And faster startup and loading times. Great update ☺️
@NinjaNicky Just seen this on amazon, are these worth it? Any reviews anywhere regarding using the plastic rifle for joycons?
@sixrings
If you are going to try and take offence at such a thing maybe don't then refer to people's religious beliefs as myths.
@Moroboshi876 Yeah, and to the developer's credit, they did a lot to fix the issues that the Panzer Dragoon remake had. It went from something I was disappointed by to something I was really quite happy with.
@zander_dale there's a few YouTube videos and a couple of reviews online so from what I've read, it works. I'm tempted to get it myself. I had the SMG looking gun for Killzone on ps4 and liked it so I'm hoping this does the job of filling the gun void.
I have this game on launch day and haven't bothered playing it, because I am too busy playing a game i thought I can't get into, which is OMORI, love it.
@KindofaBigDeal I was just trying to be as gentle as I could to indicate I don’t appreciate throwing one’s religious leader out as a replacement cuss word. I assume people who throw out that name casually believe that He is a myth But I can see your point.
I’ll wait until, like Panzer Dragoon, it drops to just a few quid in a sale.
@sixrings
And that is fair enough but then you kinda had a perhaps unintentional dig yourself by referring to religion as myths i.e. not real.
Edit: Saw your edit. Coolio. Let's move on.
Good to see improvements as I have been on the fence about this game since announced. Panzer dragoon didn't float my boat the way previous games have and I adored the house of the dead 2 on Dreamcast (and later Wii). Still waiting for Overkill 2 though, why Sega let that die at a HD port on consoles with uncommon light gun support (PS move being the most traded in peripheral around that period) is ridiculous and a true shame, still play overkill on Wii U (why did that not get the HD version at least??) with my nephew, now he is old enough for the profanity and vulgarness of it all.
Gotta try this patch out and see if this game is finally decently playable
@NinjaNicky Yes, but they work terribly, and it will always work terrible with joycon regardless of what it's sat in.
@NinjaNicky I have taken the plunge, will update!
Curious to hear how improved gyro is. And touch control is cool too.
@YANDMAN it will work as well as the joycons work. I know some games that use motion controls are a bit off sometimes but having the gun won't make the joycons perform any worse because they just hold them.
@Vash0125 @zander_dale Please report back to us with your thoughts.
Improved gyro and the ability to mute “Reload!”. All I wanted. Love this game!
@Bunkerneath I'm honestly stunned light gun games haven't come roaring back with the Switch but also for VR.
Imagine a new Area 51 in VR or a new Time Crisis.
Would be so much fun and way more immersive.
Great update, nice that I got a kinda light gun to use for this now.
Awesome. Now please get to putting a physical edition of HotD4 on a home console ^_^
Let’s hope it’s a big difference as at current the motion controls are so bad it’s not very playable.
Would really like to see Sinden support.
How is the switch not light gun central !? Literally a 1st party Nintendo controller specifically a gun/light gun not a shell. Made specifically for these types of games. Time crisis, resident evil umbrella chronicles, carnival of evil, and ton other new ones would probably pop up.
If you build it they will come .....
I consider this game broken because gyro cant get close to the accuracy of a Wii Zapper. Interested to hear if this update does much to fix these broken controls, but I doubt it.
I really enjoyed it when it came out. Felt it got more hate than deserved. I did have to mess with the control settings quite a bit to get it into a "sweet spot" to be feel good to play with. With the new update, I'll definitely go back and put more time into it.
It does make me wish the resident evil games from the Wii were ported though.
@AG_Awesome Its arriving today... will update!
@NinjaNicky exactly, and when using the joycon as a pointer, they are terrible. I've tried them with this game and it is god awful.
@Moroboshi876 what are the main improvements in Panzer Dragoon since initial launch?
@YANDMAN I've never actually used any sort of gyro controls on the Switch but from what I've read, they're a bit of a gimmick and the videos I've seen, they look like there's a bit of a delay, especially compared to the wii
Gave it a go last night after not touching it since its release and it DOES feel much better now, the gyro aiming is more responsive and it feels closer to the Wiimote now, not perfect, but finally playable.
We still keep HotD 2 & 3 on the Wii for our proper arcade-fix though. I do wish the Switch (or maybe Switch 2.0) could have a sensor bar accessory, the IR tracker in the right Joy-Con might be usable with that tech.
@NinjaNicky Gyro and joycon is not the same thing.
@YANDMAN the Joycon is the controller which has an accelerometer and gyro-sensor. When I say I've not played a game that uses gyro controls, I mean I've not played a game that uses motion controls. I never said they were the same. I said "gyro controls" not "gyro controller" which I'm guessing is what you thought it said.
@AG_Awesome @ninjanicky @Vas0125
Can confirm, with a little messing around with the gyro controls sensitivity and turning off that dude shouting RELOAD, the gun was great fun to play with! Not as good as the one with Overkill... but still, fun!
@zander_dale Thank you for the follow up!
@NinjaNicky My point is we are talking about using the Joycon as a lightgun. In doing this it uses the IR pointer, not the gyro control.
