Publisher Viridian Software is bringing its new visual novel Gloom and Doom to the Switch on July 19th, promising throwbacks to '90s slacker movies but with a supernatural twist.
It stars Winona, an ordinary 'emo' teenager who is secretly an immortal doom-bringer who could bring about the end of the world - except she doesn't want to. She befriends a wraith and together they embark on a quest to prevent the coming apocalypse.
Here's some more info from the game's eShop page:
Gloom and Doom is a visual novel throwback to 90s slacker movies with a supernatural twist.
A depressed wraith is trying to earn his way back into heaven by hunting demons. After killing demons for 500 years, his final mark is a girl who believes she will cause the end of the world.
However, even his formidable powers are unable to kill her, and they go on a quest to find death and peace for her.
Featuring a cast of moody characters and a 90s superhero comicbook style, your choices will lead you to one of seven endings.
Will you save the girl or save the world?
Does this one look interesting to you? Will you be picking it up from the eShop? As always, let us know in the comments.

I saw the name Winona here and I immediately thought of the Stranger Things actress
a valiant effort, but the art does not look professional quality.
@anoyonmus I can’t believe that Winona Ryder with her varied and successful career is now just ‘the Stranger Things actress’.
@nessisonett sorry man, but the only movie/ show I have seen her act is in stranger things
@anoyonmus I'd add the angelina Jolie psych ward movie, and Edward scissor hands. She was amazing in both! 😂
@nessisonett got any other recommendations?! 😁
This is a bit too: "how are you doing fellow goths" for me!, 😂
@garfreek Little Women, Heathers, The Age of Innocence, The Crucible… loads of classics!
@nessisonett The best movie she was in was Bram Stoker's Dracula. It wasn't her defining role - but it was the best movie.
"secretly an immortal doom-bringer who could bring about the end of the world - except she doesn't want to."
Ah, emos. They're like goths who can't fully commit.
@Sonos Bram Stoker's Dracula is an incredible film. Keanu Reeve's terrible English accent couldn't even bring it down.
"Chased by bloody wolves through some blue inferno!!"
@OldManHermit I re-watched it for the 50th or so time recently - I'm more sympathetic to his character acting than I used to be. Maybe because when his acting in Dracula is held up to today's standards - it doesn't seem so bad at all really.
@nessisonett better to be The Stranger Things lady than the lady who tried to steal from a clothing store and said she was "researching a role" when she got caught. That could have easily stuck with any other celeb.
@Chocobo_Shepherd She was being prescribed heavy painkillers and antidepressants by a quack physician who had their medical license revoked as a result. Shoplifting is a far, far safer outcome than what could have happened with her judgment impaired like that.
@garfreek Alien Resurrection and Heathers should be first on your list to watch
@nessisonett wow. interesting! I never heard that. that makes me feel better because I always liked her.
@WCB Heather's! Haven't watched that one, but it's an absolute cult classic!
@nessisonett thanks!! Love her acting in what I've seen, so definitely up for some more of her movies! ❤️
