We've seen companies like Atlus and Capcom release video guidelines for new games to prevent spoilers from ruining the fun for everyone, and now it's Bandai Namco's turn. The next Digimon game, Digimon Survive, launches this week, and Bandai Namco has released a special message via social media asking players to avoid posting certain content.
As explained on the official Digimon Games Twitter account, Bandai Namco doesn't want players to post "anything" on social media that could potentially spoil the story from Chapter 5 onward for at least the "first two months" of the game's release.
A follow-up tweet from the developer asks players to use "#DigimonSurviveSpoilers" as the go-to hashtag for posting spoilers.
"Digimon Survive tells a deeply personal story with many twists and turns. To keep the surprises special, we ask players to avoid posting anything on social media that may spoil the story from Chapter 5 onward for the first two months after Digimon Survive's release.
"However, if you do post, please mark your content as a spoiler in a way that clearly indicates to others that spoilers are present. Let's keep Digimon Survive a one-of-a-kind experience!"
Even if Digimon Survive players shared spoilers on Twitter in the first few months without the special hashtag, Bandai Namco probably wouldn't be able to do much. However, it might be a bit different on other platforms like YouTube with video uploads.
How do you feel about the Digimon account asking players to hold off on spoilers for the first two months? Comment below.

The game releases tomorrow and there aren't any reviews yet. I don't think that is a great sign.
People shouldn't post spoilers for any game within the first year or so imo.
I never post anything I see as a story spoiler even for games years old.
For two months, huh? Is that to give us time to play through Xenoblade Chronicles 3?
Removed - unconstructive
Not gonna happen. Final boss will be all over YouTube within minutes of release
i used beelzemon's base to draw my manga's custom robo but its not digimon. and i favor pokemon over digimon anyways. i grew up watching it and playing some of the games.
plus i just got a gba from japan! its solid good!
@Alpha008 So long as the video is clearly titled and the poster doesn't use the final boss in the image.
Yeah that’s not happening.
Sorry bamco but that’s like telling a river to stop flowing.
Though I wish people would not spoil a game for at least a year so people don’t get spoiled. (I’m still avoiding Kirby forgotten land spoilers)
People went hard on spoiling fire emblem three houses .
Eh, don't worry. People will be focused on Xenoblade Chronicles 3, so few will care about Digimon Survive.
People who leak major spoilers just to get their 5 minutes of fame are just terrible. I think there should be a legal precedent for a window of time (say 2 weeks) and if someone breaks it, they should pay consequences. I'm surprised the public held their integrity on Avengers Infinity War/Endgame, but that was an anomaly rather than the norm. Leaking and spoilers in today's society have gotten so bad I've had to go blackout from the internet every time a major release that I'm interested in drops.
@Axecon this is a hilarious concept
I think the risk of spoilers is especially dependent on the community in question. Some are AMAZING at respecting the unspoken, arbitrary window (sometimes for years). Others suck at it to a point where you'd think they were doing it out of spite (especially for media that's facing fan backlash at the time).
Whether or not people adhere to this, I think it's smart for the official Digimon account to get ahead of the nature of the internet by nudging folks towards a middle ground, rather than threaten strikes or takedowns.
This is mostly a problem of the social media-obsessed crowd. Outside social media, it's pretty easy to avoid spoilers.
BN probably already know their request would most likely not be granted, but good for them to still have faith in humanity.
Do I want to name drop specific people? Or do we know them off by heart?
I avoid Social Media and block all YouTube Channels that appear on my Recommendations or Subscriptions. I have a script that makes these Channels invisible 100% so nothing will be getting spoilt for me.
I’m against spoilers. It completely ruins the experience.
@SmileMan64 I care and everyone I know cares too.
Doesn't matter really. In this age, people enjoy watching others experience something more than actually experiencing it themselves.
@GameOtaku Ditto.
I have a lot of respect for this approach as opposed to Atlus restricting and copyright claiming spoilers. This game wasn’t on my radar, but the good will from Bandai has me reconsidering.
There was a YouTube channel that used to post the final bosses for every major release within a couple days of the game's release complete with community post screenshots that you couldn't avoid seeing. I unsubscribed and this is also the reason I stay away from Twitter fandoms for these games, so I will give praise for them trying to curb people spoiling things, even if it might be ineffective.
@ModdedInkling
> ProsafiaGaming on his way to try to make a YouTube thumbnail as spoiler as possible
@Indielink Oh that's exactly what they will do
@ATaco The worst part is when you don't even follow said channels but Youtube just decides to recommend that video containing the spoiler to you
Honestly? I kinda feel bad for this game. This is the only piece of news of it I've heard about it and I read videogame news daily.
The fact that Xenoblade 3, a JRPG with much more visibility, launches on the same day it's going to basically kill a big part of it's sales at launch.
Besides, I'm still finishing Digimon Cyber Sleuth so I won't pick it up at launch despite me hearing about it for a while. I think people can imagine what JRPG I'm going to pick up this week.
@GoldenSunRM I remember when they even tried to defend that and admitted that it was actually done on purpose. I wish YouTube had an actual block button at this point instead of just an "option to not reccomend this channel" that only appears sometimes.
Avoiding spoilers really isn't that hard. Don't click on articles and videos, don't watch streamers and you'll be fine. It always blows my mind when I go watch a video with spoilers and there are people crying in the comments about how the game is ruined for them. Why are you even there watching when you don't want spoilers?
Thats major problem game coming out tomorrow you know they be spoilers and they shouldn't post it and ruin it for others but you know they will.
"we ask players to avoid posting anything on social media that may spoil the story from Chapter 5 onward "
Why, what happens?
this annoys me who forces you to watch or read the spoilers. if someone is i think you have bigger issues in your life. same as im offended by an artical video you know just stop reading watching im 50 we took the mickey out of all these old people in 70s and 80s being offended about everything. The point they were old. Now its all youngsters who are offended. My advice go enjoy life as it dosent get any beter when your older. you just go more funerals
It’s timing is not the best I will tell you that.
Got to say the marketing for Digimon Survive has been terrible. There was huge hype for the game a couple of years ago now few seem to even know it exsists
@Ogbert That's the pivotal moment when...Digimon Survives.
The sentiment is nice, and staying off social media helps, but...people will still be jerks about it and not care who they might spoil.
Massive Spoiler: Agumon digivolves into Greymon
@Axecon Spoilers suck and people often post them just for their 5 seconds of attention, but legal precedent? Dude, you can't just make make everything you don't like illegal.
@tkdboy1889 I mean you could extend copyright claims and protection for up to 2 weeks after release. I don't think that's too hard to implement.
It's not going to solve the problem but it may at least de-incentivize people to post spoilers. I know the idea is a bit radical, but I can't see an easier way to stop this situation which is getting worse and negatively impacting fans and developers.
Does this mean we will get DigiMon Amiibos???
Where on EARTH are the reviews? Hopefully this doesn't mean what it usually means...
I'm glad that the people I watch on Youtube don't post spoilers. I preordered this game awhile back and completely forgot about it. I'm so surprised that they didn't promote this game more. I had completely forgotten what it was about. Anyways I will be trying out this game and if I don't like it, giving it to my son
I will getting it for PC. The problem is do I buy it now and start right away or wait till I get my steam deck (Should be getting it in a month or 2) and play it that way since it is a visual novel and I rather play VN games on a handheld device.
