If you're a fan of Octopath Traveler, which made its debut on the Nintendo Switch in 2018, and happen to own a mobile, you may be interested in checking out the upcoming release, Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent.
Pre-registration for the full release has now opened globally on both Google Play (Android) and the App Store (iOS). Opting in will allow you to be notified as soon as the game goes live on these services.
This follows on from an early access period back in March. The game itself is a prequel - featuring "high quality graphics", "engaging combat" and storytelling similar to the original entry.

Hey Square, the Switch can be a mobile console too.
Maybe, u know….
@Friendly I love the way your thinking!
'happen to own a mobile'. such a rare thing for NintendoLife readers I'm sure. 🤪
There are so many great games that come out horrible or just vastly diminished on mobile versions because of the inherent tiny screen size and lack of good control schemes. I don't think I want that with Octopath so I'll probably avoid this. If it ever ports to Switch I may check it out.
Such talent and opportunity wasted.
@FishyS We won't invest in a mobile free-to-play style game cause if invested in it, once they pull the plug on the game someday, it'll be gone for good and all the time and money your put on the game will be wasted which is why I say it's a wasted opportunity. Don't fall for it. This is a scummy game.
I played the beta and it was fine. Probably would have been great if it wasn't pay to win. I'm sure they'll make bank, as I hear every mobile game does. But it felt like a waste of time and money for me.
Wish this would at least be playable on the Switch too, but oh well. I'll probably still check it out.
(Insert a million elitist comments hurr mobile games durrr here)
Really fun from what I played of the beta. Didn't stick with it too long since progress got wiped after it ended so had no motivation to go very far. Will definitely play again though.
@Serpenterror So like every Gameboy game then?
@FishyS My phone's screen is larger than my Switch Lites..
Do you guys not have phones?
I hate how the switch is considered a mobile console only when a game it's too big to run on it, but when it comes to ACTUAL mobile games it's suddenly a home console, just put them on the switch you cowards!
@SJW
Of course not, I'm happy with my Switch!
8 man party is too big and confusing for me...i like my RPGs simpler
I wish it a happy discontinuation after a year
@SteamEngenius Clearly you forgot that lots of Game Boy games had battery-backed save systems, and passwords, and that they weren't all long games where progress mattered. Try again.
It's not about being a game in a cell phone, it's about the game model as a service. You will get to play an incomplete game that gets a new chapter every once in a while. It will try it's best to persuade you into spending real money on it (sometimes more than you would pay for a game in a console) and after 1-3 years, when company earnings aren't worth the upkeep cost, it will be discontinued. Probably before you can see the storytelling to it's completion
I'm not even arguing that's your money down the drain because you paid for the satisfaction you got while it lasted, like any other service. My gripe is it's an incomplete game, drip fed on content, that will inevitably die and since it's filled with filler to make it last as long as possible, you probably won't see the end of the story.
I did the Beta. Its alright, but I don't think it'll do well here. It's still gacha.
I'm playing the original right now, and having a great time! ❤️
Never really been a mobile gamer myself; I prefer to do my heavy gaming on consoles… but I do understand the same is not the case in Japan where heavy mobile gaming is more the norm.
As such, personally I hope this Octopath prequel is a quality experience that eventually comes to the Switch (along with other full JRPG mobile releases like Fantasian, Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis, FF: Pixel Remasters, Echoes of Mana, etc.).
But of course what I really want is Octopath Traveler 2 on Switch asap!
... Wun can only hope.
My phone is crap and doesn't have the right requirements, which is why I just wanna have some mobile games on my switch.
I dislike the original game but I think this one will be fine since its a gacha game and I don't expect dialog between other members in the team.
@SteamEngenius Your phone is not everybody's phone not all are the same size
