Techland has announced that its parkour survival horror game Dying Light is getting a brand new release! Dying Light: Definitive Edition has been announced and is out on consoles tomorrow, but Switch owners will have to wait a bit longer to get their hands on this definitive package.
Originally released in 2015, Dying Light was praised for its controls and its multiplayer, and the developer has continued to support the game up to today. The sequel, Dying Light 2 Stay Human — also due for a Switch release via the cloud this year — launched earlier this year with a more-expansive world and tons of quests.
This rerelease of the first game will include all 26 DLCs on top of the base game, and if you already own the Platinum Edition, you'll automatically be upgraded for free! That means you'll get the last 5 DLC packages for free.
That sounds like a killer deal to us, even if we have to wait just a bit longer than PlayStation and Xbox owners! We reviewed the Platinum Edition when it dropped last October and called the port a "remarkable achievement":
Currently, no date has been set for the Switch version of Dying Light: Definitive Edition, but PlayStation and Xbox owners will be able to pick up the game digitally from tomorrow. We'll let you know as soon as we find out!
Here's a reminder of what the Platinum Edition gave us.
Will you be picking this one up? Let us know in the comments!

Interesting.
Now where is dying light 2 cloud version news? Is it even still coming?
Amazing, This game is another miracle port on the humble Switch and it's become one of my fave games! If there is a new physical version with all the patches on the card, I might end up double dipping.
@GrailUK I will double dip as well (if everything is on the cart) to support such "miracle" releases
Even though I own a digital copy on PS4 and a physical copy on Switch, I'll be buying this Definitive Edition. With the hope that the cartridge will have all the post-patches the game received after launch. One of my favorite games from the past decade has my money.
I'll wait a bit longer to get this game on Switch then.
I was literally just thinking of picking up a physical copy of the Platinum Edition, since EB Games (Canada) has this on sale. I appreciate the last-minute save, @AlanaHagues!
@GrailUK Did you find that the physical version needed any patches?
The coolest part I see up there, is that if we already bought Dying Light on the Switch digitally we will be upgraded for free to THIS version and get the extra DLC we are missing for no extra cost. That is a class act move, in my opinion. This is a GREAT game on the Switch, so seeing even more content for it is wonderful news!
Got the game recently and it's a blast. Won't catch me saying no to big free updates for it either! Or for any game, really (even if they create other first world problems like storage toll - remember when Bloodstained was below 7 Gb?😅).
@CANOEberry It received a substantial 1.4GB performance patch after launch.
@CANOEberry It got a large patch after launch and one that vastly improved the performance of th game.
Maybe this will allow for it to be sold on the EU eshops....
Platinum Edition is still in my backlog on Switch. Too many games to play. Not enough time.
Not got to playing this yet. Now... Do I open my sealed copy of the Platinum version, or re-sell and wait with fingers crossed?
How many versions is this game going to get? Throughout the entire lifespan of this game, it has been released countless times.
@MsJubilee Your avatar look less than impressed lol
Weird that this company delayed the game on a platform with over 100+ million devices, their investors must be mad
Cool cool, got Premium a month or so ago but I'm not one to give a crap about using some storage since ya know..that's what it's there for.
Pretty fun but it kinda controls like ass.
Good thing I hadn't bought the Platinum Edition yet, this Definitive Edition better be damn complete. The garbage cloud sequel could just not exist.
I thought the platinum edition had all the dlc, i didnt even know what I was missing out on
Was confused what was the difference between this and the platinum edition and realize it’s just the missed dlc platinum didn’t have. No big deal since it’s free and doesn’t demand you to rebuy the game.
I was astonished at how well this look and ran on my Switch OLED. I hope the next Switch gets a port of Dying Light 2.
@ferryb001 Still seems messed up that Germany can dictate what can and can't be sold in Europe. No country should have the power to dictate over others in a free market.
This game looks amazing on my Switch OLED! Such a fun game and an amazing port on Switch. If this Definitive Edition receives a physical release with ALL of the DLC on cart, I'll buy it day 1.
@XenoShaun No one, never, should have the power to dictate, be they a company, an individual, or a corporation. If they call themselves state or government or leaders or masters or whatever, it makes absolutely no sense that the will of some can overpower that of others. Actually, under human rights, it can't. And every EU member state signed them. I've been trying to communicate with the government here, making it clear that I in no way ever voluntarily and knowingly signed to subordinate my volition, my freedom and equality, to their 'authority', which by definition makes them tyrants and slavers. Call it 'voting' and 'democracy', it doesn't change a thing. If majority dictates, minority is oppressed. And here we're all minorities. 'Divide and conquer', not 'live and let live'.
Haven't won it yet, but so far I'm not losing, and took a few small victories already. Local government and several tax collectors have had to back off. Some others are still trying more aggressively with actual threats, which is defined as terrorism actually. If only humans knew their rights, what their words mean, and who the real criminals are... But of course they don't teach us that, it's only arguably the most important and empowering declaration in recent history, but it would undermine the takers if they allowed us to collectively know and understand them.
Oh right, videogames. Well, won't say no to free extra content to a magical port. I was actually more impressed by this port and some of the Rebellion ports on Switch than by some of the 'impossible' ports where you see it struggling.
@GrailUK It got a 1.9gb update when I updated the software at the weekend.
Now I'm glad I haven't picked up the Platinum edition yet. Pretty cool that they're rereleasing this with even MORE content.
