According to a report from Imran Khan of Fanbyte, Nintendo inside sources have confirmed that a sequel to the Switch launch mini-game pack, 1-2-Switch, is in the works — and that the internal feedback has been "brutal", calling the game "boring".
The game is tentatively titled Everybody's 1-2-Switch, and reportedly takes the multiplayer aspect of the first game, and turns it from a local party game into an online game with up to 100 players, inspired by the Jackbox Games approach.
"When playtesting groups received the game, the feedback to the development team was brutal. The target audiences Nintendo was hoping to hit — families with children — found the games boring; many didn’t even want to play through entire rounds. In the Bingo example, one player would use the joycon to mime digging out a number before reading it off the TV screen — a process that playtesters reported as tedious."
- from Fanbyte's report
Khan states that "no one expected Everybody’s 1-2-Switch to test quite as badly as it did," and that it scuppered Nintendo's plans to release. Khan also suggests that there are a "large number of empty boxes for the title just sitting and waiting," with no clear plans if the game will be released soon, or ever.
Now, according to Khan, the plan could be to release it as an add-on to the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack — "the quality might matter less, sources argue, if no one is actually paying anything (extra) for it," he says. There's always the possibility that it might be shelved, too, but Khan's sources "do not believe that will happen."
There's still optimism about the game, Khan says — "the team is doing their best to respond to feedback."
We could still see Everybody's 1-2-Switch some day... but let's hope it's in a better state.

I hate the sound of this too. I usually buy most first-party Nintendo releases but I dodged 1-2 Switch because it was bloody boring.
That's unfortunate, A jackbox style game made by Nintendo is something quite interesting.
No goanna lie that one game you just mentioned really does sound terrible.
Why not just turn it into DLC for 1-2-switch or update the old version and call it something like Ultimate1-2-Switch. No need to make a big song and dance out of it, just a free game update.
1 Poo Switch more like
Why would the make a sequel to 1-2 Switch in the first place?
I don’t understand why people hate 1-2 Switch so much. It’s not perfect at all, but at least is a nice game to pop in once in a while at a party and play something that involves some eye contact with friends
That being said, an Online-only 1-2 Switch would be the worst idea ever
1-2-Switch-99 for NSO could be an alright thing. I'd play that.
@PessitheMystic this. In my older years I tend to buy all first party stuff for the sake of collecting... 1-2 Switch can do one though...
Way to mistag a post again.🙄
can't believe it took this long for nintendolife to discover this rumor
I love the fact Nintendo made a game and even they don't know what to do with it hahaha!
Just imagine if they put this amount of work into switch sports they could add wuhu Island
I don’t hate it, but it seems like a complete waste of resources. The difference between March of 2017 and June of 2022 is:
-Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
-Arms
-Rocket League
-Hasbro Game Night
-Super Mario Party
-Warioware
And countless others. Switch is absolutely inundated with quality party software, so why not put those resources into a game that there is demand for?
@Flashlink99 I did buy a used copy, but ended up selling it later. There were some fun mini games, but we didn’t return to the collection like we did with other games.
Nintendo Land also has some dud mini games, but some really fun ones too. We return to that one often with friends.
NL gave 1-2 Switch a 6. I think a 5 or 6 out of 10 is fair.
People dunk on Samushunter as a leaker with zero credibility, but a 1-2 Switch sequel is something they actually called quite some time ago when no one else was talking about it to my knowledge.
things people like in games:
-story
-challenge
-progression
1-2 Switch should have been pack-in software as it was essentially a tech demo. It does have some fun aspects, but was mostly a dud. A different presentation may have helped. I think it better to work some of the better concepts into a different package.
It exists, the works done. Just throw it in as a NSO extra or give it out (digitally) to owners of 1-2 Switch.
Sure its bad but if no one is actively paying for it, then it doesn't matter
I mean, it's one of the few games my family likes to play with me, so any bonding time works for me
What logic were they using when greenlighting a 1-2 Switch sequel lmao. Without looking at the numbers I’m betting 1-2 Switch was a million+ seller but you don’t need to be a business expert to know it only sold well because there was naff all else available at launch and it was at least a novel demo for the hardware.
@Not_Soos A broken clock is right twice a day etc
user tests like this are common and usually those issues get tackled, so this is rather a good than a bad sign in my opinion
@BrianJL Making 1-2 Switch a pack-in title would give people the wrong first impression. And probably would have raised the price of the Switch. Nintendo made the right decision.
I know there are a lot of people that love the casual stuff that Nintendo puts out like WarioWare, Switch Sports and this, but I'm about as interested in it as I'm interested in a root canal.
I thought it'd be cool if Nintendo took inspiration from Jackbox for a future game, though I didn't think they'd go with the same party formula considering how dirty it can get. Obviously, if it's being viewed internally as a product that could damage Nintendo's image, they didn't get it right
That's hilarious. I hope Nintendo doesn't go through with it
UGH I wish they would spend that time on DLC for Mario Odyssey or BOTW.
Nintendo doesn’t want you feeling it’s ice cubes for free, that’s highly precious software development.. lol
I wasn't interested in 1-2 Switch and I'm not interested in that game now. I feel that 1-2 Switch is a game that Nintendo should leave alone and focus on making other games, just saying.
@Pointy59
DLC for BOTW launched 5 years ago 🤣
I can't imagine a 1, 2 Switch sequel would do nearly as well as the original. I think the first release benefitted heavily from the very thin launch line-up.
I hope they launch it as an Expansion Pack exclusive. I'd definitely be willing to try it at that point. I've always been curious about the original, but there was never a chance I'd pay good money for it.
I’ll buy it for a dollar. Nothing more
Waste of developers resource.
Go make a Mario odyssey 2 or DK platform game.
A Jackbox-like online-only sequel sounds like an even worse idea. I hate the idea of people having to use their phones as controllers, hence why I wouldn’t touch the Jackbox games. If a phone is needed, then the software should be made for phones instead of using a completely different device as an intermediary.
I like 1-2-Switch. 🥰
I hope the sequel will have more mini games and better control.
Who at Nintendo actually thought a $60 online-only 1-2 Switch was a good idea? That's one of those ideas Miyamoto should have been there to flip the tea table into people's faces when mentioned.
And expecting a massive physical distribution, to boot? Wow.
Even the description sounds boring. This is like 2007 Wii fare.
1-2-Miss me with this one.
Why in the world are they wasting our time developing this uselessness? "I wanna play 1 2 Switch" is something nobody has ever said.
@dluxxx
I like 1-2-Switch.
I said that here.
Imran Khan also said that Metroid Prime Trilogy for Switch was finished and due to be released asap back in 2018 or 2019, but that wasn't really true now was it.
These kinds of games have to be packaged with the console or at the very least be €20 max. To not only have the guts to give IT a sequel instead of certain other series that are far more deserving (Golden Sun, Pushmo, etc.) but also have it be so god awful in testing that the target demographic of families and children hate it? Shelve it, cancel it, WE'RE DONE BABY.
@Flashlink99 Part of the reason is that it was a launch title, a boring gimmick game and it wasn't even bundled with the console.
The negative reaction to 1-2 Switch is more understandable when there's less than 10 games total and this one is promoted. Switch's launch lineup was less than stellar and 1-2 Switch was the poster boy for it.
LOL everybody hate 1-2-Switch but me.
I like 1-2-Switch, one of very quirky and entertaining game by Nintendo so far.
I like the quirkiness of the mini games that made me giggle. 🤭
Telephone was my favorite mini game from 1-2- Switch. 👍
But I guess the games that was trash for almost everybody, it was a hidden treasure for me.
Who asked for this? Like really who looked at it and was like, man I hope it gets a sequel! Even a Arms 2 would be better.
why Nintendo is wasting valauble development resouces in this crap, when theres so many franchise they could bring back, no one asked for a sequel of 1-2 Switch, Nintendo cancel this trash and do something better.
@Snatcher @Giancarlothomaz
Me.
I want 1-2- Switch sequel with better gameplay and more mini games. ☺
@SmaggTheSmug Good thing it wasn’t bundled with the system! We don’t want 1-2 Switch being the best selling game on Switch. 😉
A jackbox style game that actually uses Smart Phones could be really cool actually! This sounds awful though.
maybe i'm the one that i like 1 2 switch. one of the best party game ever
Went to make tea and thought about 1 2 switch sequel and nearly vomited.
Should have made Nintendo land 2 instead.Nintendoland on Wii U was so much fun.
First game always seemed like something that would only be worth bothering to play if it were a free pack-in with the system honestly. Even if it were put on the Expansion Pack I rather doubt I'd give this a shot.
@Anti-Matter I didn't say people don't like it. I said nobody ever said: "I wanna play 1 2 Switch." Because there are always options that are much more fun.
I never played the first one because of its outrageous 65 CAD price and being the only person in my social circle who plays video games. Funny thing is that were they to do this sequel with the 100 rando multiplayer and tack it onto NSO at no extra cost, I might actually be willing to check it out lmao
@Anti-Matter I’m giving you kudos for honesty, have a good day.
Typical Nintendo don't want to make new games for F-Zero, Star Fox, Earthbound, Kid Icarus, Ice Climbers etc but will make a sequel to a hated game that only sold because it was a launch game for Switch and other than BOTW there was nothing else to play
Might be best to delay it for a year or two if this is the case. Remember, "a rushed game is forever bad".
The first one outsold ARMS. And this makes me sooo mad.
Call it 3-4 switch
If Nintendo has gone throught the trouble of QA testing, localization, and printing physical game cases (and presumably cartridges) for the game, then there is no way they will outright cancel it.
I liked 1-2-Switch when it came out. Maybe too expensive, but I still think it was a pretty unique and approachable party game. I think Nintendo going the Jackbox route with the series really kinda defeats the initial purpose of 1-2-Switch. Playstation also tried going this route with Playlink and almost all those games flopped.
Not surprised. HD rumble was a waste of money and the first game should have been free software. Wasn’t worth full price.
I've always hated those minigame collections. Didn't like Wii-sports or Nintendo Land. So I'm defenitely not gonna waste my money on 1-2 switch. This sequel seems like a waste of resources.
To be completely honest, I forgot that this game even exists... it sounds like maybe the sequel shouldn't.
@Qwertyninty I think that HD rumble isn't a waste, but that Nintendo is wasting its potential. Case in point, the PS5 controller is insane but that's only because Sony continues to support its features.
@Randomname19 I think enough people have multiple Switches or friends with Switches to where many could have one docked and one in handheld mode for Nintendo Land style gaming. They could sell the game twice or have a “free” version that only works as the secondary device.
Wii sports and Nintendo Land were so much better than the switch novelty games. They're not even comparable.
@Flashlink99 If one do switch was the free tie in game like Wii sports was, then I would agree with you. But as a standalone $60 game, It is a terrible overpriced cash grab.
I have a hunch nintendo is doing that thing again that they do every once in a while where they get so caught in themselves that they forget to listen to their fans
Knowing Nintendo they'll release it anyways.
@Fizza Maybe we will eventually get a discounted version as a Nintendo Selects title.
There is absolutely no reason to keep this at $50 on the eShop (five years after release)!!!
@dBackLash
I like Wii Sports, 1-2- Switch and Nintendoland. 🙂
I played those games.
The games are trash for some peoples, they are hidden treasures for other peoples like me. 😉
@Uska
The third sequel will be called 5 6 7 Switch, featuring STEPS singers as guest stars. 😁
I'll give it to nintendo that an original jackbox party game from them sounds interesting, but the absolute gaul they have to make it a 1 2 switch sequel lol
I think after Switch Sports was released, the 1-2 Switch rumors started to churn. Seemed like the YouTubers were getting their eyes set on a sequel to this game for some strange reason. SwitchForce kept talking about it, then in a “E3 prediction” video proceeded to dunk on the idea… even though he was cheerleading for it.
@Not_Soos You’re right, I vaguely remember a rumor about it and it was canned rather quickly. Think its been dead for a while, that’s why Switch Sports is here.
I actually like 1-2-Switch for what it is. It’s a fun party game that modernizes the Wii’s approach for better or worse. The only issue with it for me is that it’s certainly not the type of party game you can play often because it does get sort of dull. However, as a rare thing to pop up for a family game night, I like it a lot. It can be really fun when it’s a novelty. But what do I know? I play party games with my family! I know… this is against the grain for hardcore gamers!
It’s the type of game that would’ve probably been received well if it was packaged with the Switch console. It could’ve been the Wii Sports of the Switch era if that happened.
@PessitheMystic someone doesn't have friends and it shows
I could see this being poorly received even if on NSO. The Sega Genesis announcement for NSO made it seem like Nintendo didn't know what it was doing given that those games are already on Switch. And putting DLC on NSO also raised some ire and some eyebrows. NSO can hurt its brand even more if it becomes viewed as a digital island for misfit toys.
If this is the same company that released Amiibo Festival, Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash and Chibi-Robo Zip Lash, this must be awful
Would be funny to see just how bad it is
I’m all for the 1v100 approach, but the mini games need to be more fun.
I never played the first one, I have zero interest in a potential sequel.
@stache13 clearly, would have been nice to be bundled with the Switch. However I didn’t pay anything near 60 euros when I bought it (it was already sold under 20 in my country at the biggest stores, in 2019). I think it did its job for that price, so jokes on those who chose 1-2 Switch instead of BOTW at launch I guess.
@Flashlink99
"so jokes on those who chose 1-2 Switch instead of BOTW at launch I guess."
I keep my 1-2-Switch and sold my BOTW as I didn't click with Zelda games.
You left out the part where Ninty execs pushed for $60 pricing
A pile of horse *****.
@Franklin
It is not a crap.
@NinTasha weird to just single me out when literally no-one (except @anti-matter obvs) likes the sound of this new game or the orig game.
1-2 Switch is the worst exclusive title Nintendo has ever made
@BlackenedHalo
I don't think so as the game is a trash for one people, it's a hidden treasure for other people.
I like 1-2-Switch for being a quirky game.
I obviously haven't played this sequel so I can only speculate, but I think Nintendo's problem with these kinds of games is that they focus way too much on all the different ways to use the hardware with it.
They always make you do something weird with the controller and the whole premise is just like, 'Ha-ha, see! It's like you're stirring a pot of soup/milking a cow/shaking a can of cola.'
Like yeah, great, but this isn't new anymore. What's the actual point? Jackbox style games aren't fun because they make you dance around like a monkey, they're fun because they form situations where players put their own psychology and creativity into the game. I've learned that some of my friends are incredibly funny, dark, gross, and quick-witted when put into these games.
That's what makes those games fun. Not following obscure gestures.
@Maximumbeans
You know what?
I was having fun with 1-2-Switch by playing Solo, by myself so I took control 2 players and depend on mini games I played, I could operate the two Joy cons like being played by 2 players with my two hands.
For example for playing Raising flags, I hold my two Joy Cons, facing each other and moving the Joy cons like a mirror reflection with both of my hands. A little bit confusing but it was fun for me to play 1-2-Switch with very unusual ways.
@Flashlink99
One particular reason: The price tag. For how much the game is worth compared to how much you can get out of it, it's not really a lot, and you can quickly burn through every game.
@PessitheMystic Smart move. I've never been more disappointed by a game.
I found that my young nephews and neices love 1-2-Switch (its their favorite game!). Maybe marketing towards the younger kids is better for this type of game.
At first I thought this was a Knack 2 situation. The company greenlit a sequel based on high sales numbers, without realizing the sales numbers aren't meaningful since the game was a tech demo during a thin launch and people looked for something to buy.
But the more I thought about it the more I realized that it's probably a game meant for Japan that would sell somewhat in the West due to the casual/party playerbase that does have a Switch, even if it's not the core audience. The problem probably isn't that Switch 1-2-2 wouldn't sell well (for better or worse) it's that if it sells and is bad, it would tarnish their image.
Why would unreleased games be ones the devs think are good?? How is this news? =P
I’ve never actually played 1 2 switch
oh no ... please Nintendo. Forget everything about 1-2-Switch. It was embarrassing.
That's a horrible title, "Everybody's 1-2 switch"...
I'm can see why companies don't announce all the projects they're working on. Never seen such hate for an unannounced game before, lol. I never played the first one and don't plan to and I wouldn't have picked up a sequel to it, but all this hate feels rather ridiculous over a title that's rather trifling
@Flashlink99 probably because it was essentially a tech demo for the Joycons and should've just been a free pack-in with the console similarly to Wii Sports and Nintendo Land. The fact that they tried to pawn it off as a full fledged release at retail is the main reason most people have zero respect for it. If it was a free novelty game, you'd probably have a lot more positive opinions of it.
Khaaaaaaaan! Was right.
