Following on from Japan's Indie World presentation last month, OMOCAT has confirmed that its psychological horror RPG Omori is indeed coming to Switch later this week — 17th June!
No official announcement of a release date had been made for Western audiences until yesterday, but Nintendo of America's eShop listed that the game would be launching on this date prior to this confirmation. But now that we know the game launches this Friday, we've got a weekend of RPG goodness ahead of us.
The developer has also revealed that the console version of the game will contain brand new content.
The game has been compared to EarthBound for its surreal imagery and writing, and it was hugely popular on Steam when it launched back in 2020. If you need a refresher on Omori, here's a summary of the game from its Kickstarter page:
OMORI is a surreal psychological horror RPGmaker game. You must travel between two worlds, both welcoming, both concealing the same secrets. Meet new (old) people, fight new (old) enemies, explore your own memories, and uncover some hidden truths along the way (although you wish you hadn’t.) When the time comes, you can only choose one.
Which world is more real? You decide, I guess.
Omori launches on 17th June on Switch. Will you be picking it up? You can grab a physical edition of the game right here:
Let us know if you're grabbing this on launch day in the comments!

Physical copies were delayed till July 1st so I'll have a bit longer to wait (plus International shipping) but I'm definitely looking forward to playing it sometime over the next few months at the very latest.
Says my physical copy is shipping on July 1. Can't wait!
How much will it be?
@BenAV Is it released physical worldwide?
Been looking forward to this for almost 2 years.
@Quarth Looks like it is only releasing physical via one website (US based) but they ship worldwide.

So many games, with so little time!
@Quarth It's a Fangamer exclusive so you can't buy it locally worldwide but they have International shipping.
Payday can't come soon enough! Mario Strikers and this title are on my list to buy this month.
I rushed through my copy of Ikenfell so I would be prepared for this title. Everything I hear about it hase pumped to high heavens, and NitroRad specifically enjoyed it! Hooray!!!

@XenoShaun EB Games (Canada) has physical copies coming, but we'll have to wait one extra day to get them.
Interesting. Will need reviews.
@BenAV @xenoshaun @quarth they were saying in a tweet to hold tight for more information of an EU physical release. Don’t know if that has changed?

I don't usually pick up indies at launch, but I might make an exception for this if it reviews well. Looks interesting.
@Friendly I missed that but if they haven't announced anything concrete yet then probably not a good sign for its chances of releasing sooner rather than later. Not that it makes much difference for me personally being from Australia, as it's most likely not releasing here along with like half the Switch games I buy.
here in ny we have a few independent games stores that have a lot of imported japanese games. like j&L games that often sell games before they are supposed to be officially released
@Ralizah it has very good review scores on steam already. Released a few years ago.
@Friendly I'm aware, but Steam user reviews are unreliable. I've seen absolute dreck score an overwhelmingly positive reception on that platform.
Also, new ports can introduce new problems or sometimes even fix existing ones.
I remember having a dream about this game that involves it having a demo and having a DLC called basil.
Don’t know why.
I feel like I've been waiting on this game for literally years. Since it was supposed to hit 3DS. Finally coming to the Switch and I've been keeping myself from playing it on Steam for SO LONG. Finally this weekend!
@Ralizah agreed on all your points
Honestly the game was disappointing, the combat was boring and so were the side characters and side-story
Oh, I didn't realize it's rated M. Is this gonna scar me? I don't like blood and gore
@Quarth In the US, physical copies would seem to be available through Target, Best Buy, and GameStop.
Got it pre-ordered through Best Buy! Can’t wait!
@Ralizah It's worth picking up. You need to be a bit patient with it, but your patience will be rewarded. If you can tolerate Nier, Skyward Sword or Okami, you can tolerate Omori
@CANOEberry Oh good to know it's no longer exclusive to fangamer.
@Friendly That would be cool to get an actual release over here. Quite tired of all these releases being US based or Asia only releases. Though as @BenAV mentions, with no further information it seems like a large delay til we see it or their plans fell through.
It finally comes together!
Knowing the game's legacy, AND knowing the guy in charge of the port, I'm really looking forward to playing this and appreciating everybody's hard work. ^^
