Earlier this year, publisher Shueisha created its own subsidiary for video games, and at the same time announced a number of projects that they would be working on. One of those is the adorable tactical adventure game Captain Velvet Meteor: The Jump+ Dimensions which brings popular Jump+ characters into the tactical genre.
During today's Nintendo Direct Mini, we got a short look at the upcoming game, along with some story, some lovely comic-style visuals, and a little glance at the gameplay. The game follows Damien, a young French-Japanese boy who loves manga. One day, his parents tell him they're moving from France back to Japan, and this makes the boy nervous. So, to deal with this, Damien takes on his superhero alter ego where he'll join forces with manga heroes to fight enemies and deal with his anxieties.
The game is available to pre-order now on the Switch eShop for $24.99, but here's what you need to know about the game, which splits your time between your imagination and your grandma's house:
Welcome to the Jump+ Dimensions!
Damien's life is flipped upside-down when his family moves him to Japan. A shy boy, he copes with his newfound loneliness with the power of his infinite imagination and creates an imaginary hero named "Captain Velvet Meteor"! In his imaginary world, Damien sets off on an adventure with his favorite Jump+ heroes and fights to adjust to his new home and find himself.
Experience Damien's struggles living in Japan for the first time as he interacts with his family in his Grandmother's home. Then dive into the Jump+ Dimensions, the world of Damien's imagination, where he takes part in strategic battles that include puzzle and stealth elements. Use signature attacks of your Jump+ companions through Power and Assist Combos to unleash massive damage on hoards of enemies. Or get strategic with abilities that inflict status effects or knock enemies aside to help control the battlefield.
Become Captain Velvet Meteor and help Damien conquer his fears in a tactical adventure enjoyable for players of all ages and skill levels!
A few Jump+ characters have been confirmed to be making an appearance in the game, such as Monster #8's Kafka Hibino, HEART GEAR's Chrome, Slime Life's Slime, and Summer Time Rendering's Ushio Kofune. There are bound to be more familiar faces for Jump+ fans out there, so keep an eye out!
If you're excited about the game, then you don't have long to wait, as Captain Velvet Meteor: The Jump+ Dimensions turns the page on the Switch on 28th July.

You had me at Jump+ manga. I will be monitoring this one.
Excited for this one.
I've honestly never heard of any of these characters or manga. The concept sounds interesting though
Looks like a really cool tactics game. Will keep an eye on this!
I'm only here because of Monster #8 and Spy x Family.
Surprised to see Heart Gear here as well, last I checked (about two years ago I think) the manga was on a hiatus becuase the creator got ill (hopefully they are doing alright now), haven't heard anything since then.
I recognized Tasogare from Spy X Family in the trailer from the Nintendo Direct Mini.
I would have never guessed this as a Japanese game (let alone one that's a crossover of actual manga properties) based on that art style.
Looks too western (like a western animation maybe sort of influenced by anime, but still clearly western).
What, no Worlds End Harem? Looks like something I may get into. I’ll keep an eye out.
Lol. The jump+ manga ref had me for a sec, then I saw the gameplay and...oof, literal weakest of the bunch. Hard pass.
I was skimming through when I saw Lloid from Spy x Family and I was like "what's going on here!??"
Kaiju #8!! Hyped for that character alone. Im surprised the staples aren't here yet like Naruto, Goku, or Yusuke Urameshi. But they might be the other unlockable characters or they are going for more of a modern Jump approach to draw in newer fans
What a strange mix. Sabimaru looks hella lost in the middle of all this, probably wondering who he's gotta kill to get back to his wife.
@drewber2635 They're Jump+ characters. Jump is the traditional physical magazine whereas Jump+ series are released in digital form only (before being compiled into volumes, of course). So they'll all be from rather new stories because Jump+ hasn't existed for very long.
