UNO Gets 'Assassin's Creed Valhalla' DLC On Switch

...Now that I think about it, why aren't they doing this with Monopoly? With all of those IRL collab boards, you'd think they would make some of those for the digital version.

I am happy Ubisoft is supporting this game with DLC. Just picked this up and pretty happy its legit pretty innovative and much more than just a new card skin.

They should strike some sort of deal where any real-life board will also be digitised for that calendar year’s Monopoly video game, and like the Just Dance games, the Monopoly game for that season/year can go out of print once the new instalment releases, so once they’re gone, they’re gone (and so as to not cannibalise sales of the real-life boards).

They’ve issued no less than THREE physical releases of the vanilla Monopoly experience from back in 2017 (which was later bundled with Hasbro Game Night and Monopoly Madness). Surely it would have made more sense for the latter bundles to include a different version of the game to encourage repeat customers?

And while Ubisoft has been collaborating with Nintendo (Mario + Rabbids and Starlink), I would kill for a Monopoly collection featuring most (if not all) Nintendo crossover boards, including the Pokémon ones. On what planet wouldn’t that sell like hotcakes?

As much as I love the novelty and sheer breadth of available real-life Monopoly boards, I just can’t see myself ever using them. It makes no sense to haul a bunch of bulky board games around (and their loose parts) when a console as compact and adaptable as the Switch exists.

@Silly_G How is Monopoly on the Switch these days anyways? All I can find are reviews from release, I can't tell if Ubisoft ever fixed/patched some issues with the game recently or not. Though knowing them, I guess not...T.T

But yeah, was thinking of getting the game but I know how Ubisoft treats their games sometimes no matter how big of the issue it is. (like Mario+Rabbids and that freakin' World 3 glitch that causes visual bug chaos everywhere...)

@Silly_G Most people prefer owning them, the experience isnt the same, theyre completely diferent beasts, these games just dont feel so right digitally, but the convenience and fun of the effects and animations give them more than enough value. Seeing Ubisoft's most recent practices however, i doubt they'll be doing anything pro-consumer soon.

I love uno , but this does not seem like a good idea.

@Joeynator3000 : There were some significant bugs at launch (particularly the loading bug), and that was pretty much all that was fixed about it. Frame rate/performance is not great (but consistent) considering the simplicity of the game, though this can be alleviated by switching to a bird's eye perspective, which yields smoother performance (but is less appealing visually).

The game only contains three "living" boards, as well as two barebones boards (one with a plain Rabbids aesthetic, but everything else about the board is identical to the vanilla experience). Gameplay is virtually indistinguishable however which way you play (though the "living" boards are preferable). It supports up to six players, which is a plus, though considering the sheer quality and quantity of games that had been released since, I very much doubt that anybody will be booting up Monopoly at parties.

Annoyingly, Ubisoft didn't bother to include Version 1.4 of Monopoly on the cart for Hasbro Game Night (opting for the problematic Version 1.0 instead). The size of the update was also significant (around 2GB!) which also made its exclusion rather baffling and frankly unprofessional of Ubisoft given that an updated version was already on-hand.

Monopoly was updated to Version 1.5 sometime last year for some reason (perhaps coinciding with Monopoly Madness?). I have played Monopoly at least twice in recent months, and performance was still the same and no new content was added, so I couldn't tell you what, if anything, had changed.

It's a serviceable version of Monopoly, but I wouldn't recommend buying the standalone release. Hasbro Game Night is usually available dirt cheap and also includes Trivial Pursuit Live and Risk. Trivial Pursuit alone is well worth the cost of admission (and I'm hoping that Trivial Pursuit Live 2, released digitally a few weeks ago, is also issued some form of physical release). I've clocked in over 15 hours and I do not recall any repeat questions so far. Very highly recommended.

The US and Asian releases of Monopoly Madness also include the 2017 release of Monopoly on the cart, so there's that too (Europe/Australia is code-in-case only). I'll consider picking it up, but only after a substantial discount. I've already bought the bloody game twice!

As for the other stuff, I'll look into it, though really I just want Monopoly and thought the main game looked interesting, but then I see all these problems and the fact that Ubisoft developed it. Ugh...

@Joeynator3000 : It's not particularly bad, just really underwhelming. If going physical, definitely go for Hasbro Game Night as you'll also get Trivial Pursuit Live and Risk for practically nothing, or if you want a Monopoly double pack, the USA/Asian release of Monopoly Madness.

I originally bought Monopoly so that I can play it while having dinner or a late-night snack as you can play using the touch-screen (and inputs are minimal). These days, I typically default to Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, or Trivial Pursuit Live for that purpose.

I forgot to mention that Monopoly also auto-saves between turns, so you don't have to play an entire game in a single session, and you can have up to three suspended games per Switch user.
