The Switch has a few excellent point-and-click adventure games, including very decent updated versions of Telltale Sam & Max games that previously graced the Wii. With enhanced visuals, decent control schemes and plenty of wacky humour they're certainly worth checking out.
The most recent arrival, Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space, now has a demo on the eShop, which takes your through the start of the story's 5-part arc (it was originally released in 5 episodes on Wii). For those curious about how it shapes up on Switch this is an ideal stepping in point.
To celebrate the release of the demo the game is also getting a 20% discount on the eShop; the discount is live now in North America, and goes live in Europe on 28th April.
Finally, but most importantly for you collectors, it's getting a couple of physical editions on Limited Run Games. Pre-orders will open on 6th May on this page and be live for 30 days. There'll be a standard edition for $34.99USD, and also a Collector's Edition with all sorts of goodies priced at $79.99USD; details of the latter are below.
- Physical copy of Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space for Switch
- Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space Bonus Feature DVD
- Friendly Demon Song Mini CD
- Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space Episode Postcards
- "Autopsy" Mini Print
- 1 of 8 Random Time Cards
- Jurgen Rave Flier
- Tiny Tiki Drink Coaster
- Case File Envelope
- Soul Train Subway Token
- Banang Sticker
Let us know if you're planning to check out the demo, or if you're at the other end of the scale and eyeing up the physical editions!

I would if it was a collection of the first game too, but Delivery charges from Limited Run is a major turn off
A DVD? In 2022? Come on now. Some of LRG's previous collector's editions included Blu-rays, including one of the Night Trap sets, which would almost certainly be comprised of nothing but SD elements, while this is likely to be sourced from HD elements.
Limited Run please stop offering cool releases all at once. I swear they do this to me every year. Months of nothing I care about then in the span of a month there are 2 to 4 releases I want... I just have to be choosey I guess (I mean shipping prices do add up after a while. Maybe I'll get this and Contra at the same time?).
@Silly_G I suspect it's deliberately old school (like the Mini CD) but I get your point.
Huh? This offer now makes the TMNT collection seem outrageous in price value.
@ThomasBW84 : But there's no novelty in that, unless it were a mini DVD or some other shape, and even then, it's not as if mini Blu-rays don't exist.
@Silly_G I still know plenty of people who have dvd players but no blu ray. If one has a PS3 or up, which can be assumed if they buy a PS3 or up game, that's the way to go, but maybe Switch gamers don't have one. Just thinking while typing, I don't know what their reasoning is, or even if they have made Switch games with bonus bly rays. Many blu ray movies still come with bonus features on a dvd, which probably most collector's don't even watch, so cost and resources maybe... Again, I don't know.
(edit: maybe kind op the partly opposite is true for soundtracks. Vinyl is premium, but most people haven't got a player. Cd... But nowadays many devices don't even play that anymore. Cheapest option, download code. And most people still won't ever play it.)
All I know is I love Sam and Max, but I won't be buying this. A regular (available in regular online or actual stores) big box with all games in it and some fine artbooks or animations on dvd or blu ray, and I'd be tempted, but probably still wouldn't.
@Shambo : And how many of those people with DVD players are still using them?
And the practice of special features being relegated to DVDs has long fallen out of favour now that there are hardly any Blu-ray + DVD combo sets being produced, if any (and the studios used to shift supplementary materials to the DVD rather than having to use more expensive 50GB Blu-rays, and similar is done now with combo UHD+Blu releases).
I already pointed out that LRG had previously issued Blu-rays with some of their other sets (including those comprised of SD materials), which makes me question why they are downgrading in this particular instance. Most gamers and physical collectors in this day and age will also have access to a fairly recent console (PS3 and above) and/or a dedicated Blu-ray player, so, the prevalence of older demographics who still have their DVD players set up is entirely irrelevant considering that we are dealing with an entirely different audience, particularly one that is as vocal about A/V quality as the gaming community tends to be.
Frankly, it would have made more sense to include the video as its own launcher on the Switch cartridge rather than diminish its quality for a 480i DVD.
@Silly_G just chipping in - I have a DVD player that I use and no means of playing blu-ray!
My favorite sadistic rabbit and dog are getting more amazing content? What a time to be alive!
If only we had a good Sam & Max VR game.
@Silly_G I mean it's not that big of a deal, even if someone has a Blu-ray player, they'll likely still have the ability to play DVDs.
No thanks! LRG releases be REALLY expensive and plus: I have all the DVDs I need rn 😅
Cute, but it is still a problem that they changed Bosco's voice actor in a vain attempt to appease the woke mob who didn't even care in the first place.
I have the Sam & Max Save The World special edition from LRG. It finally showed up about 2 weeks ago. I'll probably buy this one too.
@HotGoomba I would love to have new Sam & Max game with a more handdrawn artstyle
I got all those feelies the first time around, so I'll just be ordering the standard version, which will slip into the Collector's Case that Limited Run sold me with the first one.
@HotGoomba I feel yea. This time it's Virtual isn't BAD, but it just doesn't HAVE the same feeling as the TTG games nor Hit the Road. I think the script needed one or two more re-works.
Love the Sam and Max series. Will definitely pick up the physical edition
Back in December, when I bought the game Digitally, I bought a Max Plush from Uncute. But I'll still buy the Devil's Playhouse HD in December of 2022. After all, I can't wait to get my stinkin' paws on that DAMN DIRTY APE!
