Earlier this week, Nintendo announced it would be releasing the N64 classic Mario Golf on the Switch Online Expansion Pack. It means the remaining games (which have already been revealed) include Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards and Pokémon Snap.
There are a few other games we also know about, but the catch is they'll both be regional exclusives to Japan. In case you need a reminder, Japan will at some point be getting Custom Robo and Custom Robo V2. While this has been previously highlighted, it seems at least one of these releases could be coming very soon.
In a similar but different version of the updated Switch Online Expansion Pack trailer for Japan, during the N64 segment, you can see an image of the Custom Robo V2 box art. This once again reconfirms the game, and also suggests it'll be arriving in the near future either before or after the release of Kirby 64 and Pokémon Snap.
You can see it around the 1:20 mark in the bottom right corner of the video below:
Again, we already knew the Custom Robo games were coming to Japan's N64 service at some point - still, it's just nice to have this little reminder. The Nintendo website in Japan also notes the following games will be delivered in the future:
As previously mentioned in our original story about the Custom Robo games coming to Japan, these titles will be available to anyone who has access to a Japanese Nintendo Account. So all you've got to do is download this app with one of these accounts to play these region exclusives.
Would you like to see the Custom Robo games for N64 released locally? Will you be trying them out via Japan's N64 app? What other N64 titles should Nintendo release in the future? As always, leave your thoughts down below.

Translate the game you cowards!
Member when Nintendo was trying to make Custom Robo a big franchise?
Whoa! Slow down, Nintendo! I can't handle this kind of value for money!
Give me Wave Race 64 you cowards!
Y'know... so long as they ensure that these games (or at the very least their first party games) will remain playable on the Switch successor through this subscription and then keep expanding on it from there too.... I don't mind the drip feed quite as much.
Because that's the frustrating part of it. They started over a few times already and each time they kept releasing games in small waves, and it's exceptionally slow here. But if this time we get to keep playing these... then I think that's at least progress, in a way.
Though yes of course I'd love if they just shoved a bunch of games on there regardless and not drip feed us so much.
@Silly_G Nintendo actually adding a bit of value to NSO?
@victordamazio I regret selling it on the game cube it's super expensive now I could have made a pretty coin.
Japanese N64 box art is so lovely to look at. They're honestly far better at times than the more iconic international ones.
Also, I get why they do this but having massive disparities between the stuff Japan gets with NSO and the stuff the rest of the world gets is never fun. Even if it's in Japanese, you could simply put them on the international one and specify the fact that it's in Japanese.
Oooooor you could potentially put the vaulted localisation of the og Fire Emblem on there now that it's no longer available but that ship has probably long since sailed.
It's more likely we'll get one of the NA or Europe exclusives in their place like Pokémon Puzzle League....or nothing at all knowing Nintendo.
Give it to us! DEW-IT!
I’m curious what games will come to Expansion Pak during the October 2022- September 2023 period.
Nintendo needs to be more willing to translate previously exclusive games with these old system services. Sure we can say, "What about Eartbound Beginnings or Sin and Punishment?" Well the former had a translation ready to launch in the NES days but simply didn't happen back then, while the latter was already in English in its original version. These aren't really late translations they've returned to create all these years later, they were pretty much just sitting there waiting for Western releases.
These games however were never localized, so they'd have to be willing to do a new translation for these games all these years later, and I'm not sure Nintendo is too interested in that.
@Don Likewise. Personally for me… hopefully Game Boy games (in colour of course) & Game Cube get added as platforms.
… Wun can only hope.
Im intrigued to see what titles arrive after the next few announced games. So many N64 games have licence issues it leaves relatively few to release..
I presume 1080 Snowboarding and Waverace 64 should be considered very likely releases along with a Mario Party game but whats after that?
@BANJO
I'm hoping we get Super Smash Bros. and Pokemon Puzzle League.
@wuntyme8
Gamecube games would be awesome, if they start adding them I would most likely subscribe to the Expansion Pak.
Fingers crossed PAL region gets Premier Manager 64, just need Kevin Keegan on board.
@eltomo was that not Player Manager by Anco? The SNES version was endorsed by KK himself complete with naff title screen.
If so, just give me the Amiga version. I loved that game..........let’s lobby N for an Amiga subscription complete with joystick, keyboard, mouse and Rockstar Ate My Hamster as a pack in.
@Reploid Yes, of course Super Smash brothers is very likely and Pokemon Puzzle League seems likely too. Fingers crossed..
@Jokerwolf got mine at a flea market and thought looks Cool so I brought it and the box and manual.
@Silly_G Your comment wasn’t terribly witty or unique, but for some reason it nail me and I laughed my butt off.
I’ve never played, but if these are customizable mechs in an action/adventure setting, I’ll be glad to try them out!
Often when I turn on my Switch I’m reminded to give thanks for its glorious lack of region locking. I’ve blissfully imported carts from Japan, shopped on the Jpn eshop, and enjoy using both the NA and Jpn region NES, SNES, N64, and Megadrive apps. For those of us who are Japanese speakers (or people who don’t mind playing untranslated games), this is a tremendous feature.
i was lucky enough for my mom to just randomly buy me the gamecube version of the game one day, and had a blast with friends. shame the series just died after that, it was a solid fun time with lots of replay value
@BANJO
I’m hoping for more Rareware games like Donkey Kong 64 and Banjo Tooie. Also want Pokémon Stadium because I never really played it back in the day. It would be great if GBA and Gamecube games get added to the upgrade subscription as well over the next 12 months.
If they keep adding games at this rate, I'll probably be tempted to subscribe in 2030.
@Moistnado
By 2030 there will probably be the same amount of games or less under the subscription because Nintendo might start putting retro games from scratch again on a new console like they did with Wii U virtual console and Switch Online classic games.
Custom Robo started on N64? i trough the franchise started on GameCube.
@victordamazio It tried to be the Ehrgeiz or Power Stone of Nintendo as 3D arena combat game but it wasn't very good. Namco is better at making them.
@Don Yes, obviously Banjo Tooie would be an amazing addition, Jet Force Gemini would also be another I would like added.
As for Pokemon Stadium, I can see a good chance of that being added.
I really wish they'd release Quest 64 ... Or even Mischief Makers.
Possible Roadmap of games:
Wave Race 64
1080 Snowboarding
Excitebike 64
Mario Party's
Donkey Kong 64
Super Smash brothers
I think these could be added quite easily...
eu quero o Rogue Squadron!!!
Dope. Never played the 64 ones. Sad tho, I think you'd also have to add your jap account to your switch online fam plan too. Unless you feel like paying for a overpriced sub twice.
Ahhh man! The first one is much much better.
@Travisemo007 No you don't, you just download the Japanese version, one subscription covers all versions. So im assuming you also don't have famicom and Super famicom games lineup, or MD.
@YANDMAN your right I don't 😅. I didn't know it was possible. Now after looking up a guide, I see you only need one sub to do it. Thx
Please please please bomberman 64
