In case you forgot, a live-action Minecraft movie is on the way. It was actually confirmed by the game's creator Markus "Notch" Persson back in 2014 and has since experienced multiple delays. In an official update on the Minecraft website, it's now been revealed the movie will arrive on 4th March 2022. To be precise, that's 34 months or 150 weeks away.
So, what will this movie be about? According to the synopsis, it stars "a teenage girl and her unlikely group of adventurers" who set out to "save their beautiful, block overworld" from a "malevolent Ender Dragon" on a path of destruction. The post also mentions Peter Sollett (Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist) will direct the film and reconfirmed Warner Bros. involvement.
The post finished up with a statement on behalf of Mojang, mentioning how "exciting" it was to be making a movie and then summarising everything:
Since we’re a game developer first, making a movie will be new and very exciting. And while the movie has to be different from the game (otherwise, you’d be in for an infinite movie in very low resolution) one thing will definitely be the same. We want to make the movie — just as we make the game — for you. We’re inspired by countless things, but none as much as the incredible stuff our community creates in Minecraft every day. So keep it coming!
In summary: the movie has a date. It has a director. It has an official storyline...

That punchline
Rememeber when this was supposed to be made 2018
Then Scott Cawthon said a FNAF movie would be made despite the series being a small, cheap, indie thing that existed for only a year?
If these and slender can happen, I bet Fortnite is getting a movie right next to angry birds 3
1. How do you make this into "live action"?
2. Why would you want to? This sort of thing should be animated! And it likely will be largely CG anyway!
I am convinced at this point that Hollywood intends to ruin every single thing they can get their money grubbing hands on and make it into a live action film, even when it makes no sense, like this particular choice.
Making a live action Minecraft film is proof that they will literally make anything into a live action film if they can.
"save their beautiful, block overworld"
So, it's live-action, but they're keeping the blocky designs? That'll look so strange, I'm actually curious to see how they pull it off.
Please no...
Well whatever, I'm sure some people would like to see this.
@Heavyarms55 Well it is possible this could be good the first Lego movie proved alot of us wrong; however this will probably just be a cash grab. Im open to the idea though.
wen pigs fly game based movies tend to suck except for clue that one was good.
At least we know the sonic movie will be awesome...
So... will it actually be "live-action" or will it merely be "feature length"?
The thought of real human actors in a Minecraft setting has me wincing slightly as I recall that(those) other film(s) with human actors and game settings.
Wait, live action?
I assumed it would be animated, similar to "Story Mode"
.... "Blockbuster" I see what you did there.
Sounds interesting I guess. Wonder if my kids will still be into Minecraft in 3 years
@redd214 are they still into it now??
@bluesdance yeah not as much as they used to be. They will still get on for an hour or 2 a week and entertain themselves. I think Minecraft will be one of those games they always go back to, like gaming comfort food. Though my oldest will be 13 by then so who knows what type of crap he'll be into by then lol
The plot sounds like one of those Minecraft fanfics. Huge warning sign there.
The movie doesn’t have a release date anymore but I hope it’s still 2022 maybe they’re just trying to animate the movie from live action to animation so it will appeal to more people and it won’t be bad and probably be at least a good flick.
