Beautiful Stuido Ghibli-esque Baldo: The Guardian Owls is getting some brand new content today. In a free update, announced by developer Naps Team, the colourful RPG will be getting a brand new adventure that will take roughly ten hours to beat.
Called 'The Three Fairies', the already-lengthy game will also be getting a number of little fixes on top of the new journey.
When asked about the details of the update, the developer didn't confirm specifics, but highlighted what players can expect to see when they load up the game after the patch.
A new (~10 hours) adventure to play :
Baldo The Three Fairies
New assisted mode for both adventures.
Various small fixes and improvements.
When the game originally launched last summer, it was riddled with issues and bugs that caused us a lot of disappointment in our review. We said of Baldo that, "It's a beautiful thing to behold, no doubt, but it's also a disaster to play in most ways. Everything — from the most simple bits of traversal to battles against bog-standard enemies, boss fights, the solving of puzzles and completion of quests — is hindered by mind-boggling design choices..."
Baldo: The Guardian Owls was updated last September, and hopefully with this new patch, we'll see a marked improvement in the game.

I bought the game a few months ago and I've tried to like the game but I just can't
If "Assisted Mode" means not dying endlessly to horrible mechanics (like being attacked while you're in the inventory screen or having to stand in place while using an item), who knows, I may just bother to revisit it. Otherwise, Baldo was an immense disappointment with so much missed potential.
I'm not sure there will be many too enthused about the prospect of 10 more hours of Baldo.
Heard this game is terrible.
Biggest disappointment of 2021. Beautiful art style, fun combat. Abysmal design and nonsensical puzzles.
Whoo! I enjoyed this game. It's very difficult (in both good ways and bad), and has that indie jank here and there, but it's also got a lot to offer, and a lot to enjoy. I'll be enjoying this free update eventually
UPDATE: "Assisted Mode" supposedly slowly refills hearts and orbs over time. So definitely not the same as Tunic's (a vastly superior game on every level, btw) No Fail mode. I tried it for several minutes with the setting turned on and saw absolutely no difference, and the horrible mechanical issues are still fully present.
In summary, I personally suggest that you don't waste your time; Baldor is still the same broken mess.
I’m sad that Baldo stinks 😔
Guys the game is great and has been fixed long ago with improvements to the mechanics, it’s a difficult game (and not because of design errors) in that it doesn’t give you obvious cues on how to solve the many puzzles that exist. The original review by PJ Oh-really was in my view pretty short sighted. Anyway I’ve played through the original story and will enjoy the new adventure. Let’s have an open mind about that one.
I wouldn't hold my breath. It says "small improvements", not complete overhaul.
Hm this article is a bit unsatisfactory. I cannot make out from the text if the game’s bugs were eliminated (long ago? Just now?) or are still all there.
If they didn’t fix them, begs the question why they would make a new quest before fixing the main quest.
@NintendoWife Exactly. That's the kind of thing i was wondering. I've been watching for a sale, but it hasn't been any cheaper since release. That being the case, i wouldn't buy it until i know for sure those things mentioned in the review are fixed.
@twztid13 I agree, they should revisit the game and give it a new grade and say what works now...
the issue is that NL is stubborn as a goat and won't admit they reached a conclusion too fast. So the impression of the game is bad, due to one bug in Savoca prison which prevented progress at launch. Apparently, that was a death sentence for an otherwise excellent game.
Nothing can save this game...
This game BROKE MY HEART! Simply put I was so hyped by this game. And when it came out...it just got annoying. If anyone remembers that ancient avgn episode with ikari warriors that's how this game feels. At first the constant game overs were a patience test but... I'm a bit into the game and I've only had one extra heart, no weapons or armour upgrades, I'm not even advancing in skill and the constant dying has become tedious. So much love went into this game and I was looking forward for a Zelda style adventure but it's just not fun and it's clearly meant to be. I want to like this game but it's a chore. So I just had to give up. Thus my heart is broken over the love I had following the progress over its delayed development only to give up in frustration
@pgerhard they do know Baldo has been fixed long ago, and I know that because NintedoLife itself commented the SwitchUp video the 'Resurrection of Baldo'. But hey why to say that? Isn't better to throw ***** to this little gem? SwitchUp showed the opposite, do a step back and give to this amazing game and developers wha they deserve.
@Ilovegames really big Thumb Up to SwithUP, for sure they got a subscriber in me. I just finished now the three fairies, it's indeed simpler than the main game and much quicker, but it was fun. The devs have told me they are working on Baldo 2 and can't wait to see it out. Day one buy for me
I bought it after watching the SwitchUp video, I had held off at launch cause of all the issues and I can confirm that it's incredible. It deserves to be played and it's a shame more outlets aren't doing what SwitchUp did, it's a classy move indeed.
Just a little update that a new free DLC was released called Elemental Temples.
