The often fruitless desire for more Silent Hill games simply refuses to abate. In a new update from Reddit (thanks, GoNintendo), publisher Konami has filed trademark renewals for the survival horror franchise.
This may be a hint of things to come, but we'd recommend keeping your expectations in check. Trademark renewals are nothing new, and with Silent Hill being one of Konami's biggest franchises it's unlikely it'd let something like this slip.
Then again, we're optimists here at Nintendo Life, so we'd like to think that a new Silent Hill game is simmering away, just waiting for that big reveal. Of course, whether it comes to Switch is another conversation entirely, but let's save that for another day.
At the time of writing, the silenthill.com website is still displaying a tweet from Masahiro Ito lamenting the design of Silent Hill's most iconic enemy, Pyramid Head. With this in mind, we're not convinced Konami is in any rush to make any significant announcements for the series.
Do you think the trademark renewal is a hint of bigger things to come? Do you even want a new Silent Hill at this point? Let us know down below.

Well we've got 2 options for a new entry. Either it's a pachinko machine, or its Silent Hill Survive.
I’ll eat my shoe if Konami revives Silent Hill.
Silent Hill mobile featuring the iconic Pyramid Head.
There have been so many rumors about the series returning but we still haven't seen a thing, honestly I would be happy with Switch ports of the first 3 games in a mega collection, that would be pretty cool if Konami somehow wouldn't screw it up.
@TheStardustWarrior Shattered Memories was an amazing Wii game, with some flaws. I remember being super hyped about it, and not disappointed.
Konami was stupid for canceling the Silent Hill game, Guilherme de Toro e Hideo Kojima was working on.
Eh. Nintendo renews trademarks for their dead series all the time as well, like Golden Sun. Its just to prevent other people from using the IP.
@AnnoyingFrenzy don't remind me of Golden. I seriously would love to see a new Golden sun. That or a remastered.
@liljmoore Hey, lets look on the bright side. Isaac got his assist trophy back in Smash. Thats more than Ray from Custom Robo can say.
Konami has been pretty happy to dole out compilations as of late so I’ll take a Silent Hill collection that isn’t utterly atrocious. The originals are so important to the medium of games.
Silent Hill mobile pachinko gamble boxtravaganza! Free to play.*
*In-app purchases
Or... Or.. Get this? They just renewed the license just for the sake of it!? Imagine that. A company possibly wanting to protect their IPs.
They also registered Frogger, Gradius etc. So yeah. Stop reading into stuff all the time.
@TheStardustWarrior you definitely missed something, Silent Hill 2 ist still one of my all time favorites. Also Silent Hill Homecoming and Silent Hill 3 were amazing games with a atmosphere on its own
More pachinko machines on the way probably. Konami has no interest in making a new Silent Hill that much is clear. They just need to license it out, and let someone who is passionate about it take the reins.
I'm sure they just need that so they can put out some rad Silent Hill NFTs and maybe some more old ports.
If I got a nickel everytime a trademark renewal meant a new game was coming….lol
it doesnt hint at it at all, its just a regular renewal
I want Sony to buy the IP & make that silent hills game
This would be welcome on the Switch
Eh, if the series does manage to make a comeback I imagine it'll be funded by Sony. Better than nothing I suppose...
I'd gladly take a collection(s) on Switch. The series never managed to climb back to the quality of 2 and 3. 4, Origins and "Wiimake" of the original were still decent though.
As long as Konami owns the IP, Silent Hill is NEVER coming back. Just accept that now and move on.
gotta comment on the image... they're trading walking dead stars for the movies? Andrea played the cop in the first, now Daryl comes in for the third?
@Giancarlothomaz Maybe, but it was doomed to die before it got off the ground. Konami and Kojima were inevitably going to have a falling out. MGSV/Fox Engine likely cost them a ton and I bet they didn't get a good enough return on their investment. Kojima was the only thing Konami had going for it, games-wise, and like many great artists, he was probably a pain in the butt for producers.
The last real thing Konami did with SH was a slot machine game. They have made a pretty open move towards the billions whales spend on "Free" to play games, and are making a move in that direction. This is just 1. As said, no way they'd let their trademark go on such a huge franchise and 2. They wanna keep it for any 100% fail casino games (that's basically what they are).
I don't think this is NL being optimistic; I think this is someone who didn't wanna scrounge for something more substantial to write about so they said, "***** it, with Silent Hill in the headline it'll generate clicks. Time to get drunk."
The getting drunk part is my own personal add on bc I like to imagine the entire NL crew secretly live together and just slam shots anytime someone accuses them of clickturbaiting.
@Thaliard well, they have Castlevania but they seem pretty goddamn deadset on never making a new entry in that franchise unless one of the startup ads involves the word "Netflix".
@KryptoniteKrunch I can never consider 4 a Silent Hill. In fact, it wasn't supposed to be; they transitioned it to a Silent Hill game over halfway through development. Even as a standalone game it would've been kinda bland but...this is a case where adding an already beloved franchise to the mix managed to make it even more bland, just bc you knew what you should be getting and absolutely aren't. Like a dildo that goes flaccid the moment anything makes noise.
@Dizavid I'm certainly not meaning to imply they don't have good IPs. Castlevania hasn't had a decent game in years and the last one that received any kind of critical praise was one that Kojima touched, no matter how small his influence might've actually been.
