Heard of a game called Wordle?
It's the little web-browser game that could, bringing daily word puzzles to millions of players across the world. Naturally, such a phenomenon is bound to inspire a few clones to pop up here, there, and everywhere (even a Pokémon one!), one of which being the rather bizarrely named Words With Freds.
It's currently available on the eShop for the paltry sum of $1.00/£0.89, but some players can bag the game for free. The catch? You need to own or purchase one of the following games: LOVE, Kuso, or Pulstario.
Words With Freds is described as "a simple word game where you must guess the randomly picked word within six tries". Sound familiar? Yeah, we thought so.
As for Wordle, the game remains free to play, but whether this continues into the future remains uncertain since The New York Times purchased it back in January.
Will you be bagging Words With Freds on the eShop? Let us know in the comments!

Everyone loves words with Fred! Still yet to try this wordle phenomenon
Imagine being able to play Wordle cheaply and portably
Where the funky doodle is Pictionary on Switch?
So... in other words: Fredle?
@Hav
It's a dream, but one day, it will happen
The name of this game is also a play on words with the Scrabble mobile game, Words with Friends.
Because the developer’s name is Fred, and it’s a pun on Words With Friends. Same as Wordle is a play on that dev’s name (Josh Wardle)
Ermm I'll stick to playing it on my mobile phone - portable and free...
Wordle is good, Quordle is the hardest and Octordle is my favourite.
And people claimed there would be no more giveaways on eShop.😆
That said, no bagging this one for now - while I have Love, the US and UK accounts don't qualify this purchase cross-region, and I can't change the main account's region from its currently defunct eShop since it still has the whole Rune Factory 5 preorder money in the wallet (as per preorder policy, they're not charging it until March 18 or so).😅 But the notice on the game's page doesn't suggest a deadline for this "discount" anyway.
Never trust the Freds 🧐
was not aware fred wood worked on deltarune as well
I'm a Fred and this is news to me.
FWIW the developer (Fred Wood) initially wanted the game to be free, but apparently Nintendo don't allow free titles without in-app purchases on the eShop currently.
@HIGHscores85 Mokuzai would like to have some words with you....
@lemonjellydude Wordle really is nothing special, if you ever saw the game show Lingo in the early 2000s, it's literally the exact same thing, just in your browser. That's what makes me so disgusted with NYT buying Wordle for 7 figures, it wasn't even an original idea in the slightest.
@MetalKingShield I've become a big fan of Nerdle, super satisfying solving those, and it's not just multiple Wordle games at once, it's an actually unique and clever spin on the formula.
Okay, how many clones is this now?
Wordle, Words with Friends, Words with Freds.
In my day, we called it "Scrabble".
Was shocked to see that even that physical game had rebranded itself one of the clones (Friends).
Though I could be wrong since I hadn't actually PLAYED these other word games. I stick with the OG!
@KingMike Words with Friends is actually quite different from this and Wordle. Words with Friends is like Scrabble, while Wordle and it's true clones are like the old 2000s game show Lingo.
Already have it. Got it with some free coins.
