It's the end of March, and it means we're getting closer to the release of Nintendo Switch Sports - the sequel to Wii Sports.
To build some more excitement around this upcoming release, Nintendo has uploaded a new overview trailer that runs for just over five minutes. In it, you'll get to see a demonstration of all six sports.
Nintendo also mentions how the Leg Strap accessory will be available with the physical copy of the game, and goes onto explain how Leg Strap support for 'soccer' will be added. A future update will also add golf.
Some other highlights include a look at some of the cosmetic in-game rewards that can be unlocked, and the pro mode, where you can rise up the ranks.
"Enjoy six sports with family and friends locally and online in Nintendo Switch Sports! Play Soccer, Volleyball, Bowling, Tennis, Badminton, and Chambara using intuitive motion controls with a Joy-Con controller. Face off against sports rivals near and far to earn in-game rewards, or aim for the prestigious Pro League! A seventh sport, Golf, will be added this fall."
Will you be taking a look at this game when it launches on Switch on the 29th April? Comment below.

No Boxing, No buy.
Really looking forward to it but it’s definitely fallen victim to this gen’s ‘less content, less personality’ trend. Wii Sports Resort has several genuinely deep single player modes and bundles of personality whereas this does look a little bit sterile in comparison. Hopefully more than just golf are added later.
I would've preferred Miis (like the Miitopia Switch ones) but I'll probably still pick it up anyway. Boxing would've been great.
Do we know if the leg strap accessory is the same as the ring fit one? Which is basically just a Velcro strap with a pouch. If so, I'm going digital. I don't want to have to walk all the way to My Switch to change games to do my sports. 😝
Might just be me, but the graphics/performance in this trailer looked a little better than the demo. Probably just because it was an old build of the game.
@Aurumonado - they have two different types of Miis according to the video. Old Wii style and new "dress them up in costumes you get by playing online a lot" style.
I want the Resort Sword minigame where your pretending to be a samurai chopping down several other Mii pretend samurai in a row along a set path.
@cyrus_zuo But only as the playable avatar right? I can't face Matt?
I absolutely completely hate that this is being released unfinished at launch.
Ah, the good old days of the Wii. Complete at launch. No downloads whatsoever for the life of the console, and no major problems to speak of (and Boxing's problems weren't rectified in Wii Sports Club released years later either), with only a tiny, tiny minority of games that would have received any form of update or were recalled due to quality issues.
I'm nevertheless glad that Wii Sports lives on and look forward to grabbing this, but I'm also crushingly disappointed.
Excited for this, had a blast with the online test demo!
Great to see the bowling sport getting fleshed out with trick lanes, I wonder if the ‘100 pin’ challenge will make a comeback? Loved the satisfying audio cues when knocking down 100 pins on the Wii version
I want to get it, but I'm not sure if it'll be available physically after launch over here in my area. Pre-ordering isn't an option right now, sadly.
I did enjoy my time with the Online Play Test and I hope Boxing and Baseball return.
@Silly_G Although I agree with the sentiment, I also agree I’d rather have this now when there’s barely anything come out, than during the end of the year when it’s going to be crazy
It’s all about the bowling. Arms is better than the boxing mode.
Day one digital for me, I'll just use the Ring Fit leg strap I've already got and download it. Seems like the kind of game I'd want to always have available for a quick match rather than needing a cartridge change each time.
This is on my to buy list. I Used to play Wii Sports with my father before he passed away as well as my friends. We particularly enjoyed playing Golf together.
Wow, no Direct this month. Just dropping videos instead. BOTW status and Switch Sports. Interesting.
It’s just not doing it for me.
Something seems sterile about this. Maybe it is just the video.
I still play Wii Sports Club, so I am hoping it will be a good time.
Cannot wait to play this, it is looking like so much fun!!
I am going to skip this, no handheld / button gameplay means no deal for me.
@nessisonett Couldn't have said it better myself. And it's a trend that kinda worries me in how things will be handled going forward. Hope it won't continue for long.
I still play Wii Sports Resort! I am really hoping that eventually this will replace that! I would like 100 pin bowling and archery to return then I can finally retire the Wii and the controllers with the hundreds of AA batteries I have had to keep 😂
Waiting for Golf, its what I'll play the most (and Bowling), but not buying just for bowling and a bunch of similar 'court' games.
hopefully joycon drift doesn't impact ability to play this, i'm not keen on having to buy 2 new joycons just to play this (use a pro controller normally)...
also, no 100 pin bowling, no purchase!
also also, FFS, football not soccer
The first time a trailer has stopped me from ordering a game. It seems pointless when I already have Wii Sports Resort, and I don't agree that golf etc. are 'free upgrades' - Nintendo are basically releasing an unfinished game.
At least the quality control on BotW2 still seems to be there.
@WoomyNNYes They already had a direct.
How much is this game, as I'm not paying £40-£50 for this, the lack of content is off putting, indie games have more content that than this.
Same happend with mario tennis aces and Mario golf and animal crossing, releasing games with missing content then including it in updates that make them sound like they are supporting the game, but they aren't, they are just missing content so they can release the game sooner
@UltimateOtaku91 it is £30
Am I the only one that doesn't mind the new characters over the Miis? People claim they look like "soulles Xbox avatars" but they really remind me of a hybrid between Inklings and Animal Crossing villagers. Plus, the customization options for clothes give them much more visual variety than the Miis.
I dunno. I get why everyone misses them, but the era of Miis and their reign is over due to the Wii U's failure. They're still usable in game at least. But I for one, welcome the Sportsmates.
I believe in Sportmates Supremacy.
(Mii's are still in the game people, no need to panic.)
The ball moves a bit too slowly in the soccer game, takes the dynamism or of it somewhat and looks like it will feel tedious very quickly - hope I'm wrong.
And the volleyball... has the video been edited to add those pauses just before a player makes contact with the ball? I hope so, cos that would really eff with the flow of the game.
I'm with @Silly_G... this title could and should be better. The bowling challenges look like a fun addition, and the additional shot control in the tennis (top spin, slice, lob) is welcome, but the golf update should be on the cartridge and available from the start, and overall it just looks like a lesser version of what we've had before, when with Switch we really should be getting Sports Resort Ultimate or something.
@gcunit
Very few number of sports on Switch Sports made me think GO Vacation on Wii and Switch with more than 50 different activities including sports looked way better than Switch Sports.
@Anti-Matter,
Played it and it looked awful, this looks much better, and who knows Boxing may be added later.
Although in fairness I seem to be battered around the ring, but still quite fun.
@JR150,
Not at all, love the new look of this game, and the Mii's are just so dated and simplistic.
Funny thing is people were complaining the Mii's did not look that good ages ago, you know when compared to the Xbox Avatars etc, now they are not the main focus and Nintendo improve things, and people still moan.
@nessisonett Compared to Wii Sports Club, Switch Sports does have more content at launch though. That game had:
So it's more a continuation of what happened with the last Wii Sports.
"intuitive motion controls"
Trust me, Wii Sports Resort and Wii Sports Club still have the advantage of combining the Wii Motion Plus with the sensor bar.
@Grumblevolcano And that’s why that game failed 😂
The game seems overpriced for 6 sports at launch, Wii sports resort had far more than that and was a pack in with wiis
I'll pass on this one. I can tell this game would be RUINED by Joycon Drift.
The more I see of these generic metaverse characters, the more I hate them.
Why did she say BATMAN instead of badminton.
I'll wait for Switch Sports Resort.
