Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm and its predecessor undoubtedly draw upon a certain Nintendo franchise for some inspiration, but it's an IP that is increasingly establishing its own identity, lore and fanbase. Now developer Cornfox & Bros. has release a new 'Arcadian Tarock' update on Apple Arcade that adds a card game, which perhaps brings to mind the likes of Gwent.
Initially this update is only on Apple Arcade, but below are some details for reference:
Arcadian Tarock, a card game that has collectors all around Gaia buzzing, expands the game horizontally, adding tons of new challenges, areas, card-related quests, and characters to take on. You will have a chance to revisit known locations, discover new ones, and compete with challengers of various skill levels to complete your collection! In addition, some cards will unlock as the result of crucial moments in the story – the perfect opportunity to pick up your adventure once more! And if you're doing that, don't worry: whether you start a new game or continue from where you left off, the Tarock quest will lead you to new locations and exciting encounters all over the map.
This series has had a trend of making its debut with timed exclusivity on Apple Arcade, before coming to Switch a little later. With regards to this major update (officially version 3.0 of the game) publisher FDG Entertainment has told us the following:
We recently released an update to Oceanhorn 2 NSW which includes many tweaks, features and fixes and we also plan to continue supporting Oceanhorn 2 on Nintendo Switch.
However, I don’t have any information about the Arcadian Tarock Update for Switch yet. I can say, though, that with the exception of the extended card game, the Switch version now runs with all the latest gameplay tweaks including an improved combat that’s easier to handle.
As for the card game we don’t have anything to announce at this point.
Hopefully that ongoing support will bring the Arcadian Tarock content to Switch if the Apple Arcade exclusivity expires in the future. We'll see in good time.

I'm always so hot and cold with RPGs that have in-game card games.
Final Fantasy VIII's Triple Triad - No idea how to play and after missing cards in the first few hours, I have no reason to learn
The Witcher 3's Gwent - The most addictive part of the game, love it so much but didn't even try it until my 2nd playthrough
Trails of Cold Steel III's Vantage Master - No matter what difficulty I play on, I get my butt handed to me and can't seem to figure it out
Even though Switch doesn't have the card game (yet), this article definitely makes me want to play it some more since I only picked it up last week. Glad to hear they plan to support the Switch version moving forward.
@Astral-Grain
FF8's Triple Triad made more sense than FF9's Tetra Master at the very least.
Please bring the card game update to switch PLEASE!!!
@Astral-Grain Triple Triad is as an ingenious mini game because you could pretty much play it whenever and it was kind of integral to the game. With the right combination of card to magic you could massively overpower your characters for disc 1 easy.
@Gwynbleidd "I wish I had more to contribute to the comment besides bashing an indie game for not being more like big budget AAA games ... but I don't"
@RadioHedgeFund You're probably right, I used to know how to play the game once upon a time, but forgot how it all works in recent years. I'm sure there was a good tutorial in the game, but much like the infamous junction tutorial, it was just too boring to actually absorb and I'd rather learn through trial and error.
The Witcher 3 and Trails of Cold Steel III have the same issues, if I didn't catch on and unlock cards within the first few hours, I just ignore it until I do a second playthrough because it's so difficult to jump into it mid-game.
@Astral-Grain The last time I got into a card game within a video game was Shovel Knight: King of Cards
Why would you get Apple Arcade lmao
Does anybody even use it
Also no physical release for OH2. I asked the support team like a week ago and there are no plans for it.
Stick to the Apple Arcade exclusivity then, and good luck.
@Astral-Grain Funny, FF8 was my all time favorite card mini game, used to even play a browser version with thousands of fan made cards..meanwhile thinking GWENT is utter garbage. Although I've gotten a bit better it's still just not nearly as strategic as it is BS.
@Funneefox
I have Apple One so it’s part of my subscription.
It’s not bad. I’m enjoying FANTASIAN at the moment.
@UglyCasanova Gwent is most certainly a pay-to-win game when seen in the single player experience that is The Witcher 3, and I would understand if some people thought it was a poor game because of that. Many of the best cards are won, but you can't possibly hope to get to that level until you buy some of the more common cards in pubs and inns across the map. You could probably make your way to the top without even buying a single card, but it can't be ignored the version in The Witcher 3 has weaknesses that make it unfair. I haven't played the multiplayer version myself, but that version supposedly fixes all those loopholes.
@TheRedComet
Same - Apple One makes more sense than getting individual services. FANTASIAN is top quality for a mobile game. I believe it has music by Nobuo Uematsu and the beautiful backgrounds were made with actual dioramas and models that they photographed and scanned.
Did we get a Physical release of this?
I'm that one weirdo who likes Tetra Master lol. Also, I grabbed KOTOR on the Switch around Christmas, and have been having fun with Pazaak.
@Funneefox I actually really like the service. I wouldn't go buy a device for it, but if you have one already I'd recommend trying it. At a glance, I can see it not looking appealing. The recommendations and top games are often very "mobile," because the casual mainstream likes the simpler stuff. But there's plenty core games there. Fantasian as mentioned is a very solid RPG from Mistwalker (Final Fantasy creator's studio, they made Blue Dragon and Last Story). Shantae and the Seven Sirens started on Apple Arcade before going to other platforms. Platinum has a hack and slash called World of Demons that I believe is still exclusive. Samurai Jack's adventure game (same as on other platforms that costs $40 elsewhere) is available. They have + games, which are older games updated and added over. I've ignored most of those since the good ones I mostly have and others are meh. But the ones I did get were Monster Hunter Stories and DoDonPachi Resurrection, which costs I think $20 to get outside the service. There's an Oregon Trail remake I like. Game of Thrones: A Tale of Crows is a fun decision story game you might like if you've played King of Dragon Pass out Six Ages. There's a bunch of indie games for different tastes. Inmost, Mutazion, Beyond a Steel Sky, Cardpocalypse, Neo Cab, Baldo, EarthNight, Dread Nautical, Necrobarista, Spelldrifter...I know I'm just listing off games so I'll stop lol. My point is I've gotten a ton of mileage and a lot of them are on other platforms and expensive so I've found myself just downloading them to my iPad instead.
