A new trailer, this time showing a scene between Chloe's mum and step-dad, also gives a deeper look into the updated and improved facial animation, textures, and lighting.
[Original: Tue 25th Jan, 2022 20:30 GMT]:
The Life Is Strange Remastered Collection just got delayed on the Switch, to an unspecified time in the future, but we can still enjoy this brand-new official gameplay trailer, which shows off the improved graphics, textures and facial animations.
The gameplay trailer only features Life is Strange, the first game of the two in the collection, alongside prequel Before the Storm.
Here are the list of notable improvements that can be seen in the trailer, according to a Square Enix press release:
- Now rendering in native 4K in Unreal 4, with a rebuilt lighting pipeline
- New and updated 4K-ready character models with increased polycounts and additional bones are visible throughout
- All character models feature more emotive and expressive animation, more natural hair physics, and updated tears, injuries, and more
- Max’s tears and expressions are more detailed with updated facial SFX
- Nathan and Chloe’s facial expressions and eyelines have been revamped
- New lip-sync animation throughout
- New and updated scenic materials for reflectivity and texture
- Updated models and materials for key props, ex. the bucket in the bathroom
Fancy buckets, additional bones, updated tears. Sounds like a party to us.

And it won't be 4k on switch because switch don't do 4k. Bet it's just the og version on switch too And first.
Trailer looked the same as the original to me. And I played it only 5 months ago.
Whoa updated bathroom bucket model! 🪣
That’s cool. Maybe I will get it once it comes to Switch. But I will always wait for reviews
Unfortunately Warren and Chloe are not updated to be remotely tolerable.
Honestly don’t feel like LiS needed any form of remastering. The game wasn’t made to be a visual stunner. It has a unique art style that I think works in its special LiS way.
In a game series as emotional as this, the tears need to be in 4K!
'Additional bones'
I hope this is just a metaphor for having skeletons in your closet. If not, oh no.
Really seems like just such a pointless remaster to me, porting the games to consoles that already have them as it is and only just slightly polished up.
I'm interested in the Switch ports for the convenience but if you have the games on PS4 (as I do) or Xbox I don't see why you'd bother with the remasters on there.
This remaster is deserving of a Physical Edition. after the success of this series, surely Square Enix must know there a demand for a Physical print (they did one for True Colors, after all).
If not on a Switch cartridge, there should at least be a Physical disc for PS4 and Xbox.
@Lizuka because the games were built on low-end PS3 hardware.
because these games have a large cult following that's only gotten bigger over the last 6 years.
because Life is Strange is popular.
@CharlieGirl I'm sure it will get a physical version one way or the other 😁
@CharlieGirl I love the games and all, but the remasters just seem utterly pointless. They barely look any different and Switch version aside are coming to consoles that already have the game available. It's not bashing on the series, it's calling a spade a spade that they're doing a cash-in to milk more money out of games that have been out for years and are routinely on sale for dirt cheap anyway.
A remaster of 6 years old games like these is a total waste of time and money, they would be better taking those resources on other games développement.
