It's a match made in hell: The surprisingly creepy Banjo-Kazooie, a game in which you have to fight a witch and all her minions in order to save your sister from... getting very ugly; and the very creepy Luigi's Mansion, a game in which you have to fight a horde of ghosts in order to save your brother from being turned into a painting.
In fact, it's surprising that this project, which fuses the two, hasn't been done before (although feel free to correct us in the comments). Grunty's Mansion, by modder Jackson Game Studios, lets the bear-bird combo explore a re-imagined Luigi's Mansion, which has been filled with notes, eggs, golden feathers and Jiggies, as well as replacing all the ghosts with the Banjo enemies.
It's not just a reskin of an old beloved game, either — there are plenty of Easter Eggs to find, like copies of the Luigi's Mansion games, all-new dialogue, and even Banjo-style covers of the Luigi's Mansion music. It's very well done.
For a full view of all of the areas, check out Mark Kurko's walkthrough of the game:

Oh, this is lovely. It's a crossover that works so well, I'm surprised nobody thought of it sooner!
@CharlieGirl I've spent my lunch break trying to think of more crossovers...
@KateGray Kirby x Splatoon would work.
This is perfect, really. Let's hope Ninty don't C&D.
@Arkay I was thinking Ocarina X Mario 64. Navi replaced by a tiny Chain-Chomp....
@KateGray Mario & Sonic swapping worlds. Sonic collecting coins in the Mushroom Kingdom and saving Peach from Bowser. Mario collecting rings and Chaos Emeralds and stopping Robotnik's evil plans.
@KateGray as if Navi wasn't annoying enough, gonna have to hear her bark as well now? Lord have mercy.
Remember that when Banjo and Kazooie were created, Banjo appeared first in Diddy Kong Racing and it's stated in the manual he is a friend of Diddy Kong, meaning that the Banjo-Kazooie games take place in the same universe as Donkey Kong, which by extension, is the same universe as Mario.
But when Rare was sold, the connection was cut.
@Arkay but you ONLY hear her bark! No more "Hey! Listen!", just lovely little dog noises!
Maybe it's me but I wanna see a mod of Sonic Adventure 2's City Escape with Banjo-Kazooie running away from the mad truck or in Radical Highway grinding on the bridges.
@victordamazio Can the same be said about Conker? Which would mean the Great Mighty Poo could have been by extension part of the Mario universe.
@KateGray okay okay, that actually does sound better now that you mentioned it!
What if you had to throw Ganondorf off the castle like King Bob-omb? I'd pay mad cash to watch Link and Ganondorf sumo wrestle.
Would love to see a Luigi's Mansion, Resident Evil crossover. Give Luigi a shotgun and let him go to town on the undead.
@KateGray One I genuinely think would be awesome is Metroid X Star Fox.
@KateGray @Arkay chortling. Copious amounts of chortling.
@Arkay
Mario x Splatoon and Mario uses the FLUDD pack to shoot ink everywhere
nice game, but only a 7/10 (sorry).
first of all, Grunty should have said that she "stole" the mansion instead of finding it; after-all the mansion belonged to King Boo and was meant as a trap for Mario and Luigi...
putting a 2D platformer into a 3D platformer felt really out of place even though it was a great touch. if Banjo-Kazooie had their own 2D platformer, it may just make a very interesting game.
adding toad into the game was very unexpected but was a great addition. i feel as though he could have made multiple appearances like he did in the original Luigi's Mansion.
why hasn't Microsoft tried to hire these guys that make great mods and add them to our great collection of Banjo-Kazooie games. the first two are not enough. i don't want to plays these ROMs on an emulator; i would like to have an official release on the XBOX and the Nintendo Switch for them.
the cap, star, glove, and the other two Mario items should have been hidden throughout the game. Luigi's Mansion was about collecting treasure; it would be nice to see it added. unfortunately the note collecting felt limited due to how small the mansion was.
it may have been better if Banjo-Kazooie had the option of exploring the whole mansion and try to keep it so that every room has its own theme. having more places to explore would make for greater game play.
it would also be interesting for Banjo-Kazooie to have to collect the different keys to get from room to room as well; than we can find a way to add in more Jiggies and notes. the mansion would be the central hub for the levels instead of Grunty's mansion in the original game.
i was somewhat disappointed that not all of the Banjo-Kazooie baddies and goodies (pun intended) made it into the game, but not all of them are needed or wanted.
i think seeing some of the portrait ghosts would have been nice, but that may be asking for way too much afterall weren't the N64 Karts limited to 64MB while the Game Cube Mini-DVDs limited 1.44GB? there might be someone out there willing to spend there time to add and make these changes.
it may have been interesting to see more transformations in the game, the pumpkin was good enough. can anyone think of a way to add in more transformation?
sorry if i am complaining, but i can just think of dozens of ways to make this game better and yet, i can only think of a few thing to make the original game better; one of those ideas being being able to play the Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie worlds side by side with each one effecting the other.
Hey, I'm not sure if anyone will see this, but I am the creator of Grunty's Mansion and I'm really touched to see all the positive feedback! If ya'll are wondering what I've worked on now, I actually developed my first indie game inspired by Zelda Majora's Mask as that is my favorite of the series! Here it is for free on steam if anyone is interested in checking it out! https://store.steampowered.com/app/2061580/Brigadoon/
