Insert the memetic "can't really find a PS5" rebuttal here, but hey, the pandemic times do continue to contribute in more ways than one here. We're still talking the cheapest and most versatile of the Gen 9 consoles with the largest native library (proportionally to the earliest launch) and the least (if still tangible) production constraints. In even bigger irony, this "underpowered Nintendo tablet" manages to outshine dedicated home consoles in the times when people have to spend more time at home - providing a larger amount of big screen family entertainment in some cases while SIMULTANEOUSLY allowing a gaming session without family competition for the living room and aforesaid big screen in others. These different cases can even happen back-to-back, and the necessary adjustments will take ten seconds flat. Spec nerds may insist on Switch being "just a handheld" until kingdom come, but when push comes to shove, a hybrid is a hybrid.

Once again the doomsayers proved wrong, first of all the Switch was dead on arrival, then it was selling but doom was only just around the corner, then when it was obvious it was getting to Wii numbers, it was pointed out the Wii's sales fell of a cliff once it reached the 100 million milestone.

Be prepared for all sorts of excuses when the Switch outsells the PS4, then starts to get near the PS2, the Switch will be then be classed as a handheld and not a home console, even though it's in fact both.

i remember as a sorta young guy when The N64 era had ended and the Gamecube was just starting off, people were always ike ONE DAY, FOLKS, ONE DAY NINTENDO WILL DOMINATE EVERYTHING and at that specific time, it felt like completely illusive. With the Wii something suddenly happened, although in hindsight I wasn't feeling it as there was a lot of low res shovelware and casual stuff. Then the WiiU seemed another step back and now ... guys this is just it.

I'm playing smart niche indie-hipster games like Disco Elysium and Outer Wilds or PC-ports like XCom 2 along with Marios Odyssey and the greatest Zelda game ever on a freaking portable. Its still unreal to me. In some religions, believers wait since thousands of years for some paradise, and us Ninetdnosheeps, here we are in the garden of eden.
Thank you Nintendo, well deserved! (and btw: Joycons still suck!)

@johnvboy i mean with every system there are people claiming its dead on arrival but with the Switch announcement I totally felt like many who would usually be on the fence were totally on board, way faster than ever before on any Nintendo system.

The WiiU was said to be dead on arrival, which I wouldn't even say was true as it still stuck around for 4 years. The Wii's announcement left people just completely confused which would then shape up as amazing PR boost. With the Gamecube I believe it would have been nice if people would give it enough attention to predict it being dead on arrival and the N64... I remember that being quite hyped at least around Nintendopeople. At least I was.

But with the Switch, I really felt like I should've bought stocks ahead of its release as it was so clear that this was gonna be huge.
Its also my 1st Nintendo console ever to be preordered hehe

Totally agree, the Wii U was a product born out of the Wii's success, but the customers were simply not there anymore.

The Switch just looked like it would do well right from the reveal, and when you consider Nintendo were no longer making a dedicated handheld, Pokemon sales alone would guarantee 22 million or so consoles at the very least, so not sure why some were so negative.

@johnvboy Oh yeah, I meant some will always be negative, because its the internet. But comparing to any other console release of any other brand, I really felt a way more positive vibe with the Switch. All sorts of people and websites who would usually be sceptical were pretty positive. And sure, some haters will just always gonna hate but I guess those might have learned their lesson by now.

The strategy to not release new hardware and use available components seems to be a good decision. I could imagine how a brand new Switch model would have done... eBay listing. IGN is plagued with people getting ready to list their Steam Deck preorder for 2-3 times than what they paid for it. Same would have happened to the rumored "Switch Pro."

Nintendo Switch Also Outsold the wii AND the ps1. Just waiting on Confirmation by Nintendo themselves soon! And it won’t be long until Nintendo Switch outsells the ps4 as well.

@the_beaver next year will definitely be a behemoth but I have a hard time seeing the PS2 ever being dethroned - they sold it for years at $50 price point

I think Nintendo is in very lucky waters because of the pandemic: PS5 and Xbox series X would have sold better if they where more available. And the PS5/Xbox series X games would have looked better if they where exclusive to those consoles. Now they all look a bit the same, so they can also be released on PS4/XboxOne, wich in return leads many people sticking to their old devices.

To make it more clear: I think the Switch is still so popular and Nintendo is in no hurry of releasing their new device because the industry is literally sleeping. If there where huge graphical jumps in the industry lots of people would be migrating from PS4/XboxOne/Switch to the new generations, I feel.

Though I have to admit the Switch is in a different league and totally out of the graphics-rush, I know.

Not much of a surprise, the Switch was the number one selling system in the US for like 33 months in a row. Congratulations to Nintendo for this amazing success!

Side note, and there’s Grand Theft Auto 5 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe both high on the charts for sales. No wonder they won’t release the next in the series. The current one is still making them millions of dollars.

I don’t like the decline in Europe but it was to be expected after the 2020 and the fact that Nintendo is suffering from the chip shortage as well

@Divinebovine far from it. It was Drowned in Shovelware unfortunately. Besides grand theft auto, God of War, Madden, gran turismo 3, and final fantasy, what were some Memorable MUST Play Games for it?! Like I said, I had one before but every time I went to Blockbuster, I found nothing but Garbage to rent, or Games that I'd rather play on my GameCube, Dreamcast or Original Xbox.

I never heard of Sly Copper? Never played the persona games. Couldn't get into ratchet and clank nor Jak and daxter. Both are very boring platformers to me. I never played shadow of the colossus either.

@NintendoEternity No see, cause you asked what WERE some good games on the PS2. The fact that they are on other consoles now is irrelevant. The PS2 did have good games back in the day, if you didn't play them back then, or they didn't appeal to you, that sounds like a YOU problem

@NintendoEternity The nice thing is, with how big indies are right now, I'm starting the get the same feel again! I can also recognise that I was a teenager for the whole of that generation, so nostalgia might have something to do with how I feel about it lol
