As you might recall, last year during 3D Realms' annual 'Realms Deep' broadcast - Nightdive Studios (the team behind the recent Shadow Man remaster for Switch) announced it would be reviving the 1996 FPS PowerSlave Exhumed (also known as PowerSlave / Exhumed) - combining the Sega Saturn and PlayStation console versions.
The same title - originally developed by Lobotomy Software (a team founded in 1993 by former Nintendo of America employees) - has now been locked in for a Switch eShop release and will arrive on 10th February for the price of $19.99 USD. Like the recent Shadow Man release, this new version of the game will also be powered by Nightdive's KEX Engine.
Apart from wide-screen and HD display (as mentioned in the trailer above), here's a bit more about this game via the official Switch eShop listing:
PowerSlave: Exhumed is a KEX Engine port of the classic console game
Destination: The ancient Egyptian city of Karnak. Alien forces possessing horrifying powers have sealed off the once thriving community from all outside contact. As a covert operations specialist, you have been trained for all forms of contingencies. Nothing can prepare you, however, for the nightmare you are about to enter...
Features:
First Person Viewpoint Action
20 Plus Levels of Non-stop gameplay through an ancient Egyptian city and the tomb of the Pharaoh Ramses
Real time fully 3D rendered gameplay allows you to move between floors within a single level
Cross bridges and swim through underwater grottos
With just a machete to start, search for 6 other weapons including hand grenades, a flame thrower, an M-60 machine gun, and a magical cobra staff.
Dynamic lighting creates stunning visual effects.

@Liam_Doolan Ask Nightdive if they'll port over any of the System Shock games to Switch?
Those games are highly regarded.
@russell-marlow I’d assume they’d be a bit loathe to port System Shock 1 given they’re knee deep in remaking it.
Good stuff. Really like Nightdive's work on their Switch ports and I'm always down for these 90s shooters.
That’s great and all, but where’s Forsaken?
I'd totally get this for 1.99.
This is definitely good news and I'll get it, especially if a physical version comes.. but where's Rise of the Triad which was shown in 2020 and supposed to release last year? 😁
@Moistnado I'd spend $50 if it meant an LRG physical version. I spent that much of pre-orders for Dusk and Quake after all, lol
Nightdives excellent work combined with one of the very best FPS games of the 90's, yes count me in. Exhumed on the Saturn is an excellent game and this one is a little different to your typical shooter, feels a bit more like what Metroid Prime became as you explore the levels and gain new abilities to explore areas that couldn't be reached earlier.
I can't wait
Does it come with Death Tank included?
PlayStation AND Sega Saturn versions?! I'm all in. Now I really want someone to make the PlayStation and Saturn versions of the original Wipeout playable on a modern console.
This awesome game also need a physical release
Day one for me.
They also need to bring Hexen 64
This game is excellent! A FPS Metroidvania in the Ancient Egypt, a gem of the PS1 era!
The best thing about this game was death tank! Anyone know if it’s included?
Great game. On Saturn. On PS, not so much.
@DaftAda I hope so, loved Death Tank back on my trusty ol' Sega Saturn, probably played more than Exhumed itself!
This is a fantastic game, and a game where the Saturn was actually the better version over the PS1.
Nice! I still have my PS1 copy in excellent condition. I haven't played it in years. Nightdive is going to bring every classic FPS back at this rate.
I would love more releases from them, but physical.
@Moistnado You'll be waiting a good 3 to 5 years plus for that mate. Enjoy! Lol
Love this game can't wait for the remastered.
Looks great though I wish it was Turok 3
Maiden will sue the eff outta em
@dr-gorgo So Heretic and Hexen are both games that have been in legal limbo as far as I can tell since the IP is owned by Bethesda (through ID) but it was developed by Raven who still had some say in the matter. Raven was owned by Activision who apparently weren't interested in a rerelease but now Microsoft is buying Activision I hope we see them all come across.
@carlos82 I had this game too on Saturn back in the days😊
@JustMonika since you have a picture of that game. Is Doki Doki Literature Club on Switch worth getting??
I'm normally not that much into these visual novel games. But there seems to be something special about Doki Doki
$20 seems a tad steep to me, but I hope plenty of people enjoy it, Wasn't a bad game of PSOne if I remember rightly (although the might have just been the demo)
@Glassneedles Heretic and the Hexens are available on GOG.
@Glassneedles Phil Spencer even said that he's keen on reviving Hexen now that the acquisition is a thing
@judaspete That might just be for the old ones due to contracts and stuff, I think in this case they meant new games (and also maybe rereleasing Heretic 2)
@Scoopz that's fine. I can wait 3-5 years.
@Nintendo4Sonic Oh hell yes.. I got the physical version at launch from Best Buy. The experience has changed my life, tbh.
Powerslave's new album, Exhumed, featuring the hit single "I Wanna Rock Your Body (to the Break of Dawn) Ft. Pitbull" coming to a Walmart near you.
@JustMonika ok, sounds pretty good. Maybe I should get it.
I hope it will feature a weapons wheel like the Quake and Shadow Man remasters.
@Precinct1313
There no question of a doubt more time was spent on death tank than Exhumed by probably 30 times as much.
Here's to wishing for a physical.
I love fps. I just don’t get these they are not for me.
@Pigeon Well, there's the Polymega providing you saved up enough for it.
It had a really amusing honor of being one of a few games where the Saturn version was the superior one, so the fact that it apparently combines all of them (odd that they do not mention the DOS one?) is a plus.
As the last of the Big Four BUILD Engine games (alongside Duke 3D, Shadow Warrior and Blood) it is an important milestone in old game rediscovery.
Now give me Blood HD already.
An entire article and comments w/o a single Iron Maiden reference? Kids.
@nessisonett But the second game should be considered, it's regarded as one of the best immersive sim games of all time next to the original Deus Ex.
I had this on PSX!
@rjejr Tell them why you have to be a power slave. You don’t wanna die, you’re a god, why can’t you live on?
Nightdive is doing work, baby.
@russell-marlow Well yes, it’s a very good game. But I’m a bit loathe to insist every game ever gets ported to every console. I’m not sure who owns the rights to 2 either, Tencent bought the rights to System Shock 3 after all.
@russell-marlow those games wouldn't translate to a gamepad, especially the first one.
@JustMonika still sitting here waiting for my physical copy of Quake
@StrikerXL Ever since I almost lost my playstation account I will only buy physical
Sooo just another doom clone? Cool. Love the "If it's not broke, don't fix it" attitude.
@Doktor-Mandrake Dusk and Quake for me. I'd say March is when they'll ship both.
I'll hold out for a while and hope for a physical release. Still waiting for my LRG copy of Quake though.
Nightdive's port of Shadow Man was absolutely superb. I don't miss the blur of the N64 original at all.
However, I do miss the chonky pixel-edged polygons and wobbly textures of original Playstation games, and I'm always a little disappointed when ports smooth those out into a newer, higer-res engine. Would be nice to have the old style as an option.
@BoilerBroJoe Hey, we can only do like six things at one time!
Patience, please.
@Larry_Nightdive Haha, well if Nightdive is your “real name”, then I’m very happy to hear it’s in your thoughts. I’ve just been eager ever since Nightdive started releasing ports on the Switch; Forsaken sounded like a fantastic port on PC and I have fond memories of the N64 version. I’m definitely intrigued by this PowerSlave though!
@rjejr See #25.
We need BLOOD on Switch!
@James696 They could always just streamline the controls, or I dunno, use the touchpad on the screen as well.
