Microids has produced some solid games in recent years, and has also been busy with some family-friendly licensed titles. It's now confirmed there's more to come with an agreement to produce three new Garfield games. More will be revealed in time, but we'd be surprised if this family-friendly IP skipped Nintendo hardware.
Alain Milly, Editorial Director for Microids, sounds unsurprisingly pleased in the press release.
We are thrilled by this new agreement with ViacomCBS Consumer Products! Garfield is a well-known and family-friendly IP fitting perfectly our portfolio made of popular franchises for all ages. Following successful collaborations on Garfield: Wild Ride and Garfield Kart Furious Racing, we are incredibly honored to work with ViacomCBS Consumer Products on three new games.
In terms of the most recent Garfield game from 2019, Garfield Kart Furious Racing, it's fair to say we were less than impressed with it in our review. Nevertheless, as we've highlighted above Microids has produced and published a host of interesting and better regarded games in the past couple of years, so perhaps we should allow ourselves a little optimism that the IP will be done justice this time around.
It'll likely be a good while before these Garfield games start to be revealed; what genres would you like to see for this franchise?

If they make a half decent 3D platformer, I'm in.
Need more of those on Switch. And Smurfs was actually pretty alright.
Honestly despite how often Garfield gets hated on I have always loved Garfield. It would be great to finally get a decent game one of these days.
Quantity over quality, no doubt.
The fact that they had the audacity to put that last Garfield game out, which was a broken rip off, means they are a publisher I will avoid. I'm usually not petty like that but there's some things I can't tolerate. Big Ben is another I avoid.
I love Garfield, but if Chris Pratt isn't voice acting any any of these games, I'm protesting.
I actually liked Furious Racing. I got it for 2 bucks on Steam. Not worth full price but it's fun if you're a Garfield fan. I played for a few hours and didn't notice that many bugs or glitches. Microids doesn't have the best games, but they to on sale often. If you think their games are bad, look at the recent Popeye game. Asterix and Obelix are fun games, the Smurf one was good, and Garfield is at least enjoyable.
Oh please remaster Attack of the Space Lasagna for Switch. I'd rather have BOTW 2 canceled for it.
Can we get a Garfield platformer please?
A Garfield vs. Heathcliff fighting game would be awesome. They could had Bandai Namco produced it and use the Pokken Tournament engine, I'll definitely buy that.
this just sounds funny... I want it.
I have nothing against Garfield, but who asked for this?
Why? I mean when?
Microids: the company who published the wonderful and highly regarded XIII Remake.
Garfield souls-like please.
Garfield? Where's my Art Garfunkel game?
If one of these isn't a "Punt-a-Nermal" game, I'm considering this whole plan a loss.
Though, tbh, wouldn't mind seeing an attempt at a Pet Force game, based on the Garfield novels from way back when.
There has been a few good Garfield games over the years. Garfield- Caught in the act for the Sega Mega Drive and Garfields nightmare for the DS are both decent games.
If one isnt a GTA - Simpsons Hit and Run style clone - I don’t know what they are thinking.
Garfield Golf
Garfield Tennis
Garfield Power Soccer
No - sports game series with a mascot would never catch on - ignore me
The Return Of The King
@Paraka
Blue fire is pretty good if you can get it on sale.
@blindsquarel - I think I burned through moat of the reasonable 3D platformers on Switch now, Blue Fire included (though I am almost finished).
I think the only ones in my backlog is Crumble and I am a bit way into Ty 1.
garfield galore
@dluxxx
"The release of the remake caused an increase in sales of the original game, causing the 2003 game to outsell the remake in the first week of the remake's release in the UK"
That's a scorching burn from the XIII Wikipedia page.
Nermal was always my favorite.
I loved Garfield Nightmare on the ds. Decent platformer.
I believe in Garfield supremacy.
Please give us a caught in the act sequel/remake/successor that game is unironically a banger
Great news! As long as they don’t release them on Mondays.
I hate Mondays.
@Paraka
Lucky’s tale? A bit overpriced but on sale it is decent. Honestly I have been having the same problem.
@blindsquarel - Finished that one, too. Decent game, though on the easy side.
For the record; I am not saying Switch doesn't have any 3D platformers, just saying I more than likely played all of the ones worth some modicum of attention.
Even played the Gigantasaurs platformer.
It seems like I should play the Genesis platformer, but it's still kind of sad to think the Famicom game is probably on the better end of Garfield video games.
I mean, the Famicom game is quite jank, but still the GBA games with sprites I can SEE the JPEG artifacts, along with stock sound effects just seemed even more soulless.
I mean, Garfield was designed more of a marketable character, so it shouldn't be surprising but it doesn't mean it doesn't hurt to see, was one of my favorite comic characters as a kid and the '90s cartoon was also one of my favorites.
