Just in time for them to announce Shadows of the Empire... Right?
... Riiight?
Bring me fully functioning emulated versions of Star Wars: Rogue Squadron (1998), Rogue Leader (2001) and Rebel Strike (2003) then we're talkin'.
I play them on my PC for now but definitely not perfect emulation right now.... but hey, at least I can play.
@HeyNavComm @Paraka
These folks get it ^
I want the rogue squadrons and shadows of the empire. There’s nothing like flying around with boba fett’s jetpack and just barely landing with a mere 2% fuel left. Also, seeker missles or GTFO.
And don’t give me any of that “they aged poorly” stuff— I have the carts and they play fine. They just need a nice HDMI connection to clean things up a bit.
In all seriousness, really hoping those games get rereleased someday (on Nintendo hardware)
@HeyNavComm People keep asking for these games, I just don't understand why they haven't ported it yet, Not that I have played them but they looked fun.
Well new year i'm I right?
@HeyNavComm @Snatcher - Rogue Squadron, by name, is still owned by Nintendo. Disney owns Star Wars. If those ports were to happen, there would be lots of red tape to see it through. Aspyr, Disney and Nintendo would have to be on board. And I don't think Nintendo would be as willing as the others if the focus is to get it on every system.
@ChromaticDracula - Admitted, they're not the best to stand the test of time. But I am one who wants to preserve those experiences as they were. I also believe remakes and old ports Remastered can coexist.
@Snatcher New, but yes, you're right.
Shoot did I spell that with a K? LMAO.
What version is Episode I Racer based on?
I'm tempted to add that to my collection, though maybe not on this sale. I already spent too much on it.
@Paraka How so? Rogue Squadron was a multi-platform game, since it was also on PC, and the phrase itself is constantly used in other Star Wars media, so it's not like there's an issue with the title itself. Nintendo's stake only goes as far as publishing the N64 version of the first game. RS 2 and 3 were published by LucasArts themselves and all three games were developed by Factor 5, who, if given the chance, would probably gladly re-master the games, like they're currently doing with Turrican.
@Mach_Rider - Uhh no. If we are talking about "3D" they still signed a deal with Nintendo. Similar to how Raw Thrills does with Cruis'n for the arcades.
RS1, 2 and 3 are still under Nintendo. EA would have loved to have had that naming freedom for Squadrons a few years ago.
It's not out of the realm for Nintendo to sign it away if they're planning a theoretical RS4, as Nintendo cannot do squat with it. But if it's the 3, Nintendo is likely going to want to control it like they usually do. Up to the point of burying it eternally.
@HammerGalladeBro to my knowledge it’s the pc port. Some cutscenes are present that were not on the n64 cart.
Wait how come Jedi Knight 1 is more expensive than Jedi Knight 2?
@Paraka @HeyNavComm @Snatcher throw in the fact that Shadows of the Empire is now considered "non-canon"... 😩
You make a great point though.. A remake would be great too.. I know Dash's ship, Outrider, is canon... At least, last I heard it was, but yeah.. A remake that is true to the original would be amazing too!
@Specter_of-the_OLED Jedi Academy is actually the third game in the series, it just doesn't use a 3 to distinguish it.
I picked up KOTOR and Racer.
The Jedi knight games are not good.
I own them all already and currently playing KOTOR what is so good. Would love if The Force Unleashed games with all their DLC were ported over.
@blindsquarel Dated sure but they're a lot of fun still in my opinion.
@ChromaticDracula Shadows of the Empire was the first N64 game I bought after I got my N64 as a Christmas gift. Loved it then, and it's still super solid.
I replayed the Boba level just 2 weeks ago, when The Book of Boba Fett released, and I replayed the entire game last year, I think in May, not 100% sure. The jetpack was done really well, and the level designs were pretty fantastic with letting you explore for the hidden "extras" in the levels.
The game is still absolutely fantastic, imo, and I feel it would benefit greatly from a remake, mainly one with proper lighting. Some of the areas on my TV were SUPER dark, and I had to turn the brightness all the way up, and even then, it was crazy dark and I would just mash the walk button and HOPE to get out of the areas.
Edit: Also, on the "non-canon" part of Shadows of the Empire, I do think they could solve a few of the non-canon issues pretty easily, because the game wasn't big on animated cut-scenes, but instead used still images for the N64 version. They could replace the still images with still images of canon characters in those scenes (I have a few that would work well, I think), and the replace the names in the text files accordingly.
Just thought I’d add to the Shadows of the Empire stuff. It’s my favorite Star Wars game, and my most-wanted “old” game on Switch. I’d absolutely love to see them announce it this year.
@6FtTurkey Ah okay make sense now.
What is the game where you play as mainly jango fett? Saw bombastic playing it and thought it was interesting.
Mind tricks don't work on me, only money.
