I do remember that back on 2nd generation (I don't know how long this lasted), shinies would actually have a small bonus to their stats. Kinda wished they kept that to make them more special, because really...I don't care about them. xD

@PBandSmelly It actually used to be over 8k - exactly double (or half the chance) of what it is now, to be precise.

@Joeynator3000 Actually, in 2nd gen they had lowered stats (due to their stats determining shininess, and the stats that were shiny being low ones). It wasn't until third gen that they got up to normal ones.

I'm just baffled at the sheer dedication to reset the game over 100 times just for a shiny. But like others, I'm just utterly confused by the obsession some have for the shiny.

I can't believe people have the time to waste resetting a game over and over, and that's just to get a shiny starter.

Even odder people watch that biz, to each their own I guess haha.

Got shiny #307 Meditite in brilliant diamond so far. Other than that I have other ones, even doubles, but only twice other than GS Red Gyarados and events. 😊

@OptometristLime Same..it makes absolutely no sense to me for something so small, but then again people spend hundreds of dollars on gacha for skins as well in other games.

If I were to find a shiny it would just be an "oh neat" moment and maybe use that one a bit more if I liked whatever little fella it was.

I like shiny pokémon, mostly because of our collective "omg something rare just occurred in the game" mindsets. Though I don't really go out of my way to collect them much.

I recall resetting like 3 to 5 times in Pokémon Pearl to get shiny Darkrai. Of course I had to mystery zone my way to Darkrai because they never released the event item to obtain it there (only in Platinum) and the Darkrai has been stuck in fourth gen as a result because it doesn't count as a legitimate pokémon, but it was still neat.

Resetting a game 107 times over three and a half hours sounds like a great way to spend your life.

I'm going TBH, I'm not crazy for shiny's at all, If I found one, it would be a "Wow I actually found one" But I'm sure not jumping out of my chair for that biz.

@The-Chosen-one No, just a different colour. And sparkles. And (extremely) rare.

However I did get a Shiny Zubat, by pure chance (not shiny hunting, which I don't do anyway) in Brilliant Diamond.

And ofcourse, I did push the "Record video"-button after that happened.

@sanderev are they tradable and could you sell them to other players?

@RandomNPC Tradable sure, just like any Pokémon. But not sellable.

@sanderev so you could sell them using a marketplace (like facebook) like you could with AC villagers.

@RandomNPC Sure you could do that, but they aren't that rare. Sure there is a 1 in 8.000 chance of getting a random shiny. But you can bring that down to around 150.

Shiny legendary Pokémon are a bit more rare though.

And getting the starter and first Pokémon to be shiny is a 2 in 64.000.000 chance.

For instance my previous shiny was a Pikachu in Pokémon X on the 3DS. I played every single Pokémon game between X and Brilliant Diamond. Not one non-gifted Shiny.

While I haven't played a mainline Pokémon since Gen V and the last shiny I caught was a shiny Unown T in original Diamond, I blame Pokémon GO for making shinies a little less special to the point of them almost not being special for me.

I think the Let's Go games made finding a shiny the most exciting out of all the games, especially if you weren't even looking for one specifically. I remember I was trying to find Dratini/Dragonair near the Abandonned Factory where Zapdos is, when suddenly, in the tall grass spawned a shiny Nidorina! It took a second for my brain to even register it like "wait are they supposed to be that color? A glitch?" Then it started sparkling. I caught it after dodging the other spawned pokemon. I love her.

TL;DR- They should've kept shinies visible in the overworld. Another reason I think SWSD is BS

It's lucky and unlucky too - because you can't catch the Starly at that point.

I got a shiny Torchic first time I booted Alpha Sapphire. Thats pretty cool too you know

@nessisonett I hate shiny Pokemon with a few exceptions. I do like red Gyarados because it was on the show and it was like wow! But in general I don't like when they change the original colour. Not only that, in some cases the colour is far worst on the shiny version.
