Since its release in September there's been positive word of mouth around Tails of Iron, a challenging RPG in which you play as a heroic King rat on a quest to reclaim their throne. It's got an attractive art style and has excellent user reviews (along with ringing endorsements from a couple in the NL team), and now it's had a hefty free update to expand the game.
Called 'Bloody Whiskers', it adds a post-story questline in which you tackle 5 challenging bosses, two new rooms to open up in The Keep, six weapon skins and five armour skins. In addition it adds two difficulty modes - 'Bloody Whiskers' is a highly challenging option, and at the other end of the scale there's 'Fairy Tail' which is "for those looking for a story-first experience".
All told, then, there's good variety and the game should be more accessible and fun whether you want a controller-hurling challenge or something a little easier. On top of that the game is currently 25% off in NA and EU on the eShop, if you're tempted to jump in.

Review it please! I want to hear the NL take on the game
Just updated. Great game!
For some bizarre reason it never got reviewed on here, Switch Up on YouTube have a great review of it.
This game looks so cool. The only thing keeping me from buying it is the reviews saying it is too short. But it just looks so good
Oh hell yeah, this game was sooooooooo good!! Just hope i can get the controls down again, after having been done with the game for a while now, they were quite confusing for a good while, haha.
Play this game folks, it's amazing! And personally, i really didn't find it too short, but rather adequate.
I haven’t finished the game but I have put six hours into it and it’s pretty damn good. There are flaws, such as the platforming sections, backtracking significantly, and the movement is relatively slow. You think you’d be able to move faster considering rats/mice are quick. Other than those two things, the game really is fantastic. It’s hard as hell, too. Prepare to die .. a lot.
Really considering it... I hate the souls games but liked jedi fallen order....i love the artstyle..hmm lets see i just got cuphead and i suck at it but its fun...i wonder if this is still fun even if i suck at it too
@ParadoxFawkes
I bought Tails of Iron and stopped playing because I found it hard but not fun, quite the opposite of Cuphead. Working up to S and P ranks was so much fun.
That said, I just re-download Tails of Iron and will give it a go on easy mode
Really unsung game. Not underrated because most people seem to rate it highly. Better download this update and jump back in. Easy mode is appreciated.
I enjoyed the game but not enough to return for the free DLC. It was about right in length (combined to the reletively limited combat options) I feel going through the DLC might stretch too close to the "outstaying its welcome"
Theres nothing really RPG like in the game (outside some repeatable kill/fetch quests).....just saying incase someone is expecting a full blown story and leveling up, style RPG.
I really enjoyed the game, though I wish the loading times between each village weren't so long. It felt more like a simplified 2d Monster Hunter game than anything else, and I love Monster Hunter, so that's a compliment from me! It would be cool if they could introduce skills or different abilities to change up the fighting a bit more, but as it is, I still find it fun to surgically dismantle a boss after finding they're patterns out.
Need to break the seal and DLC update.
