Nintendo has announced the arrival of a brand new update for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and it sounds like this could well be the last.
Taking the game to version 13.0.1, following on from the 13.0 update that introduced Sora, this latest patch will certainly be the final update relating to fighter adjustments. As is always the case, Nintendo has advised players to convert any saved replays before the patch arrives as they'll no longer be compatible once it's been downloaded:

We'll make sure to provide an update with the full patch notes once Version 13.0.1 has gone live. Nintendo notes that the patch is "coming soon," so it's likely only a matter of days away.
Is this really the end? What a ride it's been, eh?

The end of an era.
Watch as this final patch brings literally nothing of worth to the table. Hasn't been a patch that actually fundamentally changed things since 8.0 with min min.
@Matl Didn't the last patch elevate quite a few low tiers, though? I mean it remains to be seen whether or not it will actually have an effect but it feels like they've been fairly good at knowing who to buff if not always why.
@mr_somewhere every patch buffs low tiers, but it's always insignificant. "Kirby up air is now 1 frame faster" changes nothing about the flaws of the character and is just more of a "oh, that's nice" than an actual substantial change.
Occasionally they have nerfed top tiers in somewhat needed ways, but it never has an impact on the greater competitive scene beyond "wario is now top 8 instead of top 5" sort of thing. Very, very rarely have they actually changed characters in a functional way, which is why I mentioned 8.0 being the last great patch, since it altered some of pit's moves that actually made him better and more viable overall.
My main has received nothing but buffs since the beginning, here's hoping I can go the whole cycle without a single nerf.
@Matl Yeah, patching is only going to do so much. Ridley's down air is always going to be a bad move. Fingers crossed this patch is more substantial. Mac and Doc got some decent changes in the last patch but it also comes down to the fact that, at the end of the day, the engine and system is going to favour particular characters, not sure how you avoid that and Ultimate is decently balanced to where I can do decent as Ridley and I'm never going to touch the pro scene.
@mr_somewhere issue with characters like Mac is that they aren't seemingly allowed to change those characters outside of the preestablished niche they fill. So they can't really make Mac have an air game cus it is against the design philosophy of his character, despite how much he may need it to be better overall. This applies to all the characters, they can't change movement stats or such, just individual moves and even then those moves can't suddenly take on a whole new function than originally intended
Kazuya still has WAYYYYYYYY too high of a damage output for every attack. I'm hoping that this isn't the final balancing patch to come.
Leave kazuya alone!
@Matl pikachu is top tier and never has nerfed nor buffed. I agree with you, some characters need nerf and dont get them while some need buffs and never see them.
I hope they buff Wii Fit Trainer! She needs some love. Always a forgotten character.
This is the final time for me to ask them to nerf the dang rat/Pikachu and to nerf Zelda. It's kinda sad seeing this is the final patch for smash, at least balancing wise. I wonder if after this they will still moderate shared content, because sometimes there's mods, or close up shots of pyra and mythra, and they always remove the mods but not the close up, so hopefully they don't moderate that anymore, because the mods are funny.
I just hope this update releases the last event-exclusive spirits for everyone. I'm missing a few.
@Matl I main King K. Rool. While I agree that 8.0.0 gave some of the best buffs in the game, like increasing Crown Toss’s armor, the recent 13.0.0 patch gave King K. Rool a few more tricks as well. The biggest one is that up throw is finally a kill move on platforms, killing around 120% instead of 170%. Up tilt also now kills at ledge at 100%, which is disgusting, considering that it killed at ledge around 125% before 13.0.0. So yes, I agree that patch 8.0.0 is the epitome of balance patches for Smash Ultimate, but 13.0.0 did make some noticeable buffs as well.
@Handy_Man at least your main gets buffs xD i despise k rool 90% of the time, even before the buffs. I feel when they do nerf lower tier characters it just makes them more infuriating to fight against, like with jiggs in the last patch. I don't know how they choose what gets changed when there are still glaring issues with some characters and general mechanics, that have just never worked right despite repeated attempts to do so (multihit moves getting round the board buffs over the years, very few of which actually funciton any better). This is especially the case with pit, my main. multihits just drop for no reason, stuff is just unable to kill, side b just doesn't work most of the time. Lots of small stuff they could easily change but choose not to cus elite smash determines who they patch. Hence the bizarre patches in the past buffing already annoying and great characters.
They buffed Zelda last time. Zero forgiveness from me.
Jokes aside I actually played a really good and not-diamond spamming- Zelda who kicked my rear end the other day. I was happy about it.
@Matl I gotta say, while Smash 4 has similar issues with leaving low tiers at the same spot (Kirby Palutena, Ganondorf, etc), I felt Smash4 had a lot more drastic balance changes that were more often than just when a character releases. Higher tiered characters got nerfed, mid tier and small few of low tiers got buffed. Bowser went from a whatever character to an actual good one and Diddy Kong became less and less threatening through time. Unlike Ultimate the best character got balance changes next patch.
ROB should be nerfed to hell.
I already have everything completed. All I need now are the online challenges
It was a good run while it lasted! Got 6 of the fighters to Elite Smash, so I think I'm about done at pushing my thumbs to the limits. Will still drop in for tourneys and other events. Absolutely love this game. I use the music player pretty often actually hehe
@gloom wft doesnt need a buff yall run spam and camp yall good enough
Hopefully they buff kirbo. I had to stop using him because his flaws were terrible. The only way I can see him being buffed is either making his combos stupid op to the point where its like kazuya, where one interaction means death but they struggle to find those interactions or change his side b to a projectile like cutter. The former one is more likely but in general Kirby wont get buffed. It just stupid
