Back in September, The Pokémon Company revealed the Pokémon Trading Card Game Live - a new app, that was expected to launch sooner rather than later.
Unfortunately, it seems plans have slightly changed, like a lot of other game launches over the past week, TPC has made the tough decision to delay the game until 2022, in order to offer a more polished experience. This will apply to the soft launch for mobile devices as well as the open beta for PC.
"To provide Trainers with a more polished experience, the Pokémon TCG Live mobile soft launch in Canada, and global open beta for desktop, have been shifted to 2022. We’ll have more to share soon on timing for both this testing period and the full launch of Pokémon TCG Live.
"Additionally, some of you may have recently received code cards with Pokémon TCG Live branding as part of some Pokémon TCG products. Though Pokémon TCG Live is not available at this time, please know these cards are still redeemable in Pokémon TCG Online."
When the new game does go live, existing TGC Online players will be able to transfer their data when logging into the new app for the first time. This includes transferring across the majority of cards, but not necessarily all of them - unopened packs will also be converted into crystals (in-game currency). Code cards have been confirmed as compatible with TCG Live, although some of these codes may unlock "different items" in the new app.
And as previously noted, the older app will be removed and servers will be shut down "shortly prior to launch" of the new game.
When we hear more details about a new release date, we'll be sure to let you know. Will you be trying out this new version of the digital TCG when it arrives? Comment down below.

Don't understand why this isn't coming to Switch in some form.
Fatchu.
@thiz likewise, i am also here due to BDSP hype fever.
I was gonna say Why the HELL has this not been announced for Switch. Nintendo needs to get more hands on with the Pokemon company and start doing more then selling teddies and overpriced chairs
Well, biscuits. At least it gives me more time to redeem all these codes. And I really need to sort my binder and the kid's.
Got MtG Arena to tide me over until then.
Eh, the longer I have to wait for this Hearthstone/MTG Arena rip-off the better. Even with its flaws I’ll more than likely prefer PTCGO over PTCGL.
@SwitchplayerJohn @Bucky The reason why this isn’t coming to Switch is that it’s being made by The Pokémon Company International venture rather than it being made by The Pokémon Company and/or Creatures Inc., TPCi tends to be on the “cheaper” side of things keep it to devices that it knows EVERYONE has like computers, tablets, and now smartphones.
@SwitchplayerJohn @Bucky I guess this is part of the thing where it makes too much sense and people are asking for it so Nintendo won’t do it. Just like the virtual console, the ability to play previous Metroid on switch before dread, themes and folder on switch and app such as Netflix…
@ZebZed Don’t really agree with that argument. With Switch having close to 80 million player with a good portion of them knowing Pokémon they would have a good install base. Also following you’re argument they’re would be no sense on keeping the mainline game exclusive to Nintendo console yet this still happen.
Nah.
Unless it’s like the GBC game that allowed for one to easily win booster packs ad infinitum (instead of buying real-world packs/codes), then I don’t want it.
