IT'S TIME. After the tease earlier this week, we were expecting to see a release date reveal for the much-awaited second part of Minecraft's Caves & Cliffs update, and now we have it:
November 30th.
In a developer blog posted today, here's what the company had to say about what to expect:
"Part II gives the mountains and caves that you know and love a makeover. Updated terrain generation, higher peaks, more elaborate cave systems – even the ore veins are larger!"
However, they also mention some items and features that have been postponed, noting that they won't be in the 1.19 Wild Update either, but put "on the backburner" until they've figured out how to add them "in the best possible way".
Here are the things that won't be added in update 1.18, Caves & Cliffs Part II:
- Archaeology
- Goat horns
- Bundles
But there's good news too: We will be getting candles!
The update will release on all consoles, across Bedrock Edition and Java Edition, simultaneously on November 30th, for free.
What are your thoughts on the Caves & Cliffs Part II release? Are you disappointed about archaeology being removed, or excited about the new world generation? Let us know in the comments!

I don't understand why they have postponed the bundle. With all these new blocks it would've fit really well, even though you can use shulkers inside ender chests. Well, still love the company though.
“ But there's good news too: We will be getting candles!”
Candles were already added in Caves & Cliffs Part 1.
@EliteXeos (yeah I know... the blog said we'd be getting candles... I'm confused too)
@KateGray
I think it may be that they were initially part of Part II because of the Warden and the Deep Dark. But between the update being split into two parts and the aforementioned features being postponed to the Wild Update, then Candles were likely brought forward earlier.
Awww. I was looking forward to the bundle. Oh well, we’ll see it next year.
@arenred
I wouldn’t say she was disappointed that the update was split, but more-so that things just became bigger than they expected. Ideas just grew and they wanted to add more things.
Sounds amazing can’t wait.
I’ve tried the updated beta caves and cliffs and my word they make the world look much more realistic - just in low blocky resolution LOL!
What’s the bundle?
Do I understand correctly that this will automatically be included in the usual software updates? No action needed to opt in or similar?
@arenred Um, that female employee was AGNES LARSSON, one of the highest-ranked developers in Mojang Studios!
@arenred Agnes Larsson, her title is game director for vanilla Minecraft. She is always super emotional and I think its the greatest.
@arenred Yes, sorry if I sounded rude, I was just telling you her name.
