Update: It's now been revealed that Blackwind will be launching a little later than initially planned, with a new release date of 20th January now confirmed. New pricing has also been confirmed – you'll be able to buy the game from the eShop for USD $24.99 / AUD $29.99 / £19.99 / €24.99.
A new trailer has also been released which can be checked out up above.
Original Article (Thu 8th Jul, 2021 11:00 BST): Blowfish Studios and developer Drakkar Dev have announced that Blackwind is aiming to launch on Switch and other platforms in Q4 2021.
The game is a sci-fi action-platformer that puts players in the shoes of James Hawkins, an "unlikely" hero and the only hope for the planet of Medusa-42. The planet is under attack from an alien horde and – you guessed it – it's up to you to head out onto the frontlines to push back against the alien threat, making use of your ship's handy AI system, Blackwind.
As a human mining colony on the planet Medusa-42 combats an invasion by fearsome aliens known as the Raknos, an unlikely pair of heroes rise to action. James Hawkins, a teen with no formal training, finds himself in a Battle Frame mecha suit. Determined to push back the Raknos, save the colony, and find his father, James — and Blackwind, the Battle Frame’s sentient AI — are thrown into a battle unlike anything Medusa-42 has seen before.
Suit up and charge into the fray, utilizing melee strikes, ranged fire, and powerful special attacks to cut through the alien insectoids. Grow Hawkins from a rookie to a seasoned warrior, upgrading the Battle Frame’s skills across three branching paths. Turn the suit into a death machine by performing energy blade slashes before dashing away from danger and launching missiles at incoming enemies, or use special powers to finish off any stragglers. Launch your trusty drone to access areas much too small for the Battle Frame’s imposing frame to reach.
You'll be progressing through a number of locations, including a desert, snowy mountains, forests and more, and can do so either alone or with a friend in local co-op. If you go for the co-op route, one player controls the mecha suit, while the other attacks using its drone.
When it does arrive later this year, it'll be available on the eShop for $19.99. Interested? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.

More games should name themselves after manowar songs!
Blackwind fire and steel!!!
I am still searching for a game/film featuring a 'likely' hero.
Not sure how this is a platformer, but it looks cool!
It’s got mobile phone game written all over it
What's the dude above me smoking?
From the trailer, this looks like a proper video game. Good looks, good action, cool moves. Hope it delivers and controls well.
Keeping an eye on this one as this is right up my alley ✌🏻🤓
Looks pretty fantastic to me, borderline AA quality graphics wise.
Well that looks fantastic
@Lordplops Hahah! Yep, this hero’s the one.
This is what bothers me about multi-plat releases. That footage is clearly their PC footage; we all know the Switch can’t render stuff at that fidelity. Yet people are going to view it on this website, thinking that’s what they are going to get on their Switch.
Looks interesting. I'll wait for reviews before buying it though.
You’d have had me at “platformer.” You’d have had me at “mech.”
But… you have me at both now and how can I say no?
I’m highly intrigued! I’ve been wishing for a game like this but with the added ability to disembark for on-foot sections and possibly steal/highjack other mechs.
…Like Blaster Master, but with mechs.
Hear me out… I want a “Mechtroidvania” ooohhh I like the sound of that.
I dig but.. I wish it had online..
Looks good to me.
Another Retromodern gem to add to my collection. We need more games with that intense arcade style action and I think this game will deliver.
I hope we can turn off the whole screen effects on hits (:14-:16 for example) because that was a bit annoying even just for a few seconds (and maybe cause seizures for those affected). Looks decent, otherwise.
Looks like fun, will definitely check it out.
ngl the gameplay at 1440p looks very smooth
Got them, shiny mobile phone graphics, hard pass.
In the event that this runs properly and looks nice on switch, I'll pick this up. I'll need to check reviews to see if it is a hot mess.
This looks pretty generic. Not seeing anything unique to hook me.
