Well, here's some Nintendo trivia you might not have heard before - Yoshi (as in a group them, also referred to as 'Yoshies' or 'Yoshis') apparently have different names.
Whether you want to embrace this lore or not, is entirely up to you, but according to Nintendo of Europe materials from back in the day, each of the Yoshi in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island had a name. There was Yoshi - Mario's main sidekick, and in addition to this we have Jonny, Sunny, Claudi, Eddi, Netty, Tommy and Marci.
As explained by Supper Mario Broth thanks to a scan from Twitter user @SiggiStab, these names were actually used in the official game guide for this region, as well as in the Club Nintendo comics. As highlighted in a reply, the names were supposedly based on Club Nintendo employees at NoE, who worked on all of these materials.

While these names admittedly aren't recognised outside of this region, it's nice to finally be able to put a name to all of these friendly faces that have featured across so many Super Mario games over the years. Do you have a favourite Yoshi? Tell us down below.

I always wonder what power the purple, brown, orange, pink, black, white, and light blue Yoshi will have if they eat a koopa.
I'm not going to be satisfied till I get the name for black yoshi.
@billychaos Get your mind out of the gutter! They're clearly just about to have a friendly piggy-back ride between bros. Nothing raunchy about that.

This looks like German Club Nintendo work, whose head editor was Claude M. Moyse.

Moyse famously also did German translation and localisation for many Nintendo games at the time. They took a lot of liberties with the material and introduced things not present in the original versions.
Moyse even has a secret easter egg exclusive to the German version of Link's Awakening.

The comics in Germany's Club Nintendo magazine were also pretty wild.

@ObeseChihuahua2 @Joeynator3000 @billychaos Wow yall are losing it, its clearly cyan and green yoshi! I mean, look at cyan yosh, were else are those eyes going?
@Snatcher He's called Trayvon.
@Leigh-Dappa I prefer Laquan.
@ObeseChihuahua2 That's his middle name.
The surname being 'Devonte'.
@Snatcher You think Jonny's sampling the goods?
@ObeseChihuahua2 Maybe some window shopping yes, probably comes with free samples.
@RupeeClock I remember hearing about some funny translations in the German version of Link's Awakening, and sure enough it was translated by Claude M. Moyse. From the Zelda wiki:
"The German translator of Link's Awakening, Claude M. Moyse, hid some controversial jokes in the Cukeman's phrases. These phrases were replaced by more neutral ones in Link's Awakening DX. The phrases are:
Never without a condom!
Do you have any sorrows, hardships or problems?
!STOP THE WAR! GIVE PEACE A CHANCE!!
Give me your juice, I'll give you mine..."
Dark Blue Yo- I mean, Tommy is the best
Yeah, these are all my best buds on my island. Tommy might be a little strange, but we all love him just the same.
@TyroKith I was actually quite disappointed that they removed all of this in the remake for Switch.
Also the part with the mermaid was changed. In the German Version, she lost her bikini bra, in the remake it's just a necklace. Even as a young boy the bra version was quite funny
WHAT is going on with cyan Yoshi/Jonny's mouth?!?!
It's like there was meant to be two different poses for his face!
EDIT: Nevermind, that's yellow Yoshi's saddle.
@mazzel That was at least in the original, just cut out of the English version. Guess they figured they couldn't keep it as that now that you can actually see below the water.
No, just no. Yoshi is just that, a Yoshi.
It's like calling my cat Cat.
I'm pretty sure the correct pronunciation of their names is "yoshi". Here's a guide:
@billychaos I mean, Yoshi eggs can't come from nowhere......
Oooo, I love the idea of them having names… very non Modern nintendo, that’s for sure
@CoastersPaul They should make it as a PEGI 16 DLC
@Alpha008 Not the first time a Yoshi has a name, the bad Yoshis in Super Mario RPG also had names.
@Link-Hero thanks for the clarification! I was comparing the German GB version to the German Switch version, where it was changed to a necklace again
Cool to see Supper Mario Broth getting some attention, their Twitter content is always great. Definitely worthwhile to follow them for obscure Mario trivia even the most dedicated fan is sure to not know.
@Snatcher I dunno. That's one of the coolest ones, so it needs a cool name.
@TyroKith LOL. Are you for real?
@Tempestryke IKR?
Huh. Even as a big Yoshi fan I never knew this I think. That's pretty cool.
Everyone forgets the brown yoshi…it’s not even pictured in this guide from when the game came out.
Still have this Magazine in my Cellar.
Loved those Comics.
I never took Stuff like that so serios.
The confusion becomes even worse when you realize the green Yoshi that saved Baby Mario is not the same green Yoshi that befriended adult Mario, the ending of Yoshi's Island DS heavily hints that.
@victordamazio Fun fact: The original Yoshi from Super Mario World is from Dimension C-137.Although, each time you kill a green Yoshi using the sacrifical jump technique, or something similar, the next green Yoshi that pops from an egg is an illegal clone. The ending to Yoshi's Island of Terror on the VirtualBoy heavily hints that =0p
@Yosher Yeah, same here.
Is this as canon as the enemy names in the US Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island Player's Guide?
Such as Hootie the Blue Fish.
Despite that it's rather purple.
@billychaos I didn't even notice that until you mentioned it!
I wonder where Boshi fits in to all of this.
https://www.mariowiki.com/Boshi
@Yosher can't say I have heard of this either and Yoshi has been my favorite Nintendo character since he was introduced...
@Specter_of-the_OLED In the case of brown Yoshi, we might not want to know
So that would mean Tommy's my boi then, at least back in SMW with the infinite flight+shell. So what are the black and white Yoshis' names then?
I knew that yoshies had name, (bacause of boshi) but is nice to learn the names of the other colored yoshies.
@Losermagnet I USED TO HAVE THAT COMIC <3
