QUByte Interactive held its 'QUByte Connect' broadcast earlier on - announcing a whole slew of upcoming Nintendo Switch releases.
Perhaps the most exciting of the lot was the reveal the arcade and Neo Geo tag team fighter Rage of the Dragons would be getting a re-release at some point in the future. It first arrived in 2002 and was originally developed by BrezzaSoft, Noise Factory, and Evoga Entertainment, and published by Playmore Corp (SNK).
Here's some PR, and above is the official trailer:
Rage of the Dragons is a 2002 tag team head-to-head fighting game released for the Neo Geo, in which the player takes control of two characters and can switch between one or the other during gameplay.
The character who is not being controlled will slowly recover part of his or her energy while the other is fighting. The player can perform special combos in which both characters attack an opponent at the same time for added damage.
An auxiliary meter located at the bottom of the screen that slowly fills up when an attack connects with an opponent. When the meter is full, special moves can be performed (Ex: Counter Attacks, Super Moves, etc.).
In somewhat related news, QUByte's other Neo Geo series Breakers Collection has now been delayed until January next year (via Gematsu). It was originally meant to arrive in 2020, before being delayed to 2021 and now it's being released in 2022.
On a positive note, there's a new trailer for the collection. And here's a description if you missed the original announcement:
A cult-classic among the fans of Fighting Games, Breakers was released in 1996 for the Neo geo and Arcades, with its sequel, Breakers Revenge, following up two years later. This collection will feature both of the original games and brand new content

One of the best Double Dragon fighting game ever. Can't wait to play this NeoGeo classic again for the Switch. I'm surprise this is not coming from Hamster though.
Wow, I always wanted to play this. Never thought I see the day.
Great, but I don't understand the delay of Breakers Collection, due to release in 2020 and probably digital only.
By releasing so many fighting games on the Nintendo Switch, they're perpetuating the (false) notion that the Neo Geo was mainly about fighting games. There are excellent games from other genres on the Neo Geo, but we haven't seen them on the Switch yet. I'm talking about Eight Man, Andro Dunos, Ganryu, and Viewpoint. These games were better than any similar games that were released on the SNES, but people don't know about them. Today, young gamers think the Neo Geo was all about fighting games. Even that kid Scott the Woz on Youtube knows nothing about the Neo Geo because he's convinced it's just a console full of fighting games.
it most def. is a great game but for some reason I prefer the original double dragon neogeo fighter.
it's so barebones and I just love the 90s-styled bitmap pixelart.
I hope it gets a switch release someday and isnt in some sort of rights-limbo
Inject it into my veins!!! Actually don’t think I have played this one. Which is rare for me but the time of release would have made it impossible. Anyway. Just sign me up for all the Neo Geo fighters. Can we get SvC Chaos now? Please!
@TheWingedAvenger eight man is alright, but I don't know if I'd call it excellent by any stretch of the imagination
i think a fair amount of laymen imagine arcade games from that era as fighters/puzzles/shmups and so a console based around that is expected to reflect it if that makes sense
The Neo Geo sure had some super fighting games. And interesting ones to boot
@TheWingedAvenger Andro Dunos has a fun soundtrack, but the game itself is soooo darned tedious to play. Haven't heard of the other games you mentioned, but I think it's safe to say that Neo Geo put itself on the map with things like Magician Lord, Metal Slug, and KoF. I'm all for obscure releases and we need as many as we can get, though!
I'm less excited for fighting games on Switch than I was before, namely because the Pro controller has issues with button sensitivity and buttons are not a very good alternative to a proper d-pad on the left Joy-con. Honestly, I'm kinda mad at Nintendo at this point.
@TheWingedAvenger NeoGeo was a console full of fighting games though, 75% of its library are fighting games. Those that aren't fighting games are few and far between and outside of games like beat em up, sports, puzzle, and action shooters like Neo Turf, Metal Slug, Sengoku, and Magical Drop, a majority of gamers will most likely remember the NeoGeo more for its fighting games than everything else, even its own mini were mostly included with fighting games and its arcade stick controllers were made with fighting games in mind.
Very cool. Always down for some Neo Geo fighting games.
Definitely pick up both Day 1 so long as they’re physical and there’s no funny business.
@Specter_of-the_OLED
Yes, the Neo Geo has a ton of fighting games, but I ignore almost all of them and still think the console has a great library. I have about 50 good Neo Geo games and only 5 of them are fighting games. What frustrates me is that most gamers have no idea that the Neo Geo library is great even without the fighting games. The most popular retro-gaming youtubers write the console off, so gamers just stay ignorant.
@DrDaisy I completely agree, the left joycon buttons are a poor substitute for an actual d-pad, making most fighting games virtually unplayable. However, can't say I've had issues with the pro controller, it seems to register my inputs just fine. In terms of playing in handheld mode, I picked up a nifty Hori left joycon, that has an actual d-pad in place of buttons, which makes playing fighting games in handheld mode an absolute dream. It was only around 30 bucks (Canadian) too.
I wondered why this hadn't been released by hamster already, clearly they don't hold or cannot obtain the licence. This is a fantastic game.
@Specter_of-the_OLED it's not a double dragon game
@jobvd from what i understand it was originally supposed to be but they just filed the last names off the brothers when that fell through
@Gwynbleidd It's the L button on the Pro controller. I took the damn thing back twice and still have the same problem. I found out that it's a common problem too and I wish I never bought it. I can't think of every single flaw a device can possibly have before I try it out. The A button on the Xbox One controller has a similar issue.
@Gwynbleidd That's a pretty bad design flaw since I had each controller for less than a month. A $70 controller should be flawless.
@Gwynbleidd I'm not quite ready to accept the probability that Nintendo deliberately puts flaws in their hardware, but at this point, nothing would surprise me. I might have to just give up video games so I don't have to support people that deliberately ***** their customers over (it's bad enough that they ***** the people who make their hardware over), but then I'd probably need to give up electronics entirely.
Regardless, this problem didn't develop over time, it was pretty much there from the beginning. I don't have to press the L button really hard to get a response, but it's annoying that sometimes a simple tap won't do.
2 years later, still not out on Switch. What happened with this game?
@TeddyBearSolid I don’t know. I’m hoping it’s still a reality with a Switch physical version.
