Beyond a Steel Sky was a welcome announcement for Switch in early September as a 'spritiual successor' to cult classic point-and-click game Beneath A Steel Sky. It's been out on Steam and iOS for over a year, earning positive user reviews, and updated looks at the Revolution Software-developer title certainly give us cause for optimism.
This new game is a '3D adventure thriller' and has an eye-catching art style; a new dev diary video above explains the process and technology that gives the game its distinctive look. Dave Gibbons is on board to provide design and expertise on all things comic books, with the game looking to recreate the style of a graphic novel. The results are quite impressive.
Below is a bit more information on what we can expect when Beyond a Steel Sky arrives on 30th November.
From Charles Cecil, creator of the Broken Sword series, with art direction by Dave Gibbons, legendary comic book artist behind ‘Watchmen’, comes ‘Beyond A Steel Sky’, the long awaited sequel to the cult classic ‘Beneath a Steel Sky’.
You are Robert Foster. A child has been abducted in a brutal attack. You have vowed to bring him home. The trail has led you to Union City, one of the last remaining mega-cities in a world ravaged by shattering wars, and political meltdown.
Union City is a utopia, its people loving life under the control of an altruistic AI: ever-attentive androids, designer living, piazzas and bars. What’s not to love? But this City has a dark underbelly...
‘Beyond a Steel Sky’ is a dramatic, humorous, cyberpunk thriller in which engaging puzzles drive a fast-paced narrative set in a dynamic gameworld that responds to – and is subverted by – the player’s actions.
Is this one for the wishlist?

They kind of need to re-release the original I think. Remind everybody what it was all about. Plus it was a good point and click.
I played this on Apple Arcade a few months back. It was fun but way too short.
@Warioware The Original has been freeware for years and runs fine on ScummVM.
@khululy Yeah I downloaded it about a decade ago on my old laptop using that, may even have had it on my PSP or something like that too. I just want it on Switch as well, I'm kind of weird in a completionist sort of way like that! Maybe thy could throw it in as a freebie.....
As this is a sequel, I really hope that the original is accessible on Switch come the time of release, for those without PC access.
I wish other genres would use this art style. It looks great. I love it, but I can't enjoy point & click games.
So very happy to see the legacy of point and click adventures continue on to modern consoles. Beneath, was a great iconic game from the peak of the point and click era. Now let's get new King's Quest, Monkey Island, Kyrandia, Gabriel Knight and Quest for Glory games please!
