I've picked up most of the games I've been really keen for at this point and most of the ones left on my wish list are pretty recent so I don't have high hopes for many of them going on sale yet. Never know though I guess, might find one or two.
As usual, the 33% rule on Nintendo games apply 😂
From that list available, either I have the game or I'm not interested...
I hope Doom Eternal will get a nice discount, that one has been far too long in my wish list.
Up to 75% as long as it's not a Nintendo game. They should just say "in this week's sales there would be some Nintendo games". It's not a Nintendo sale with hundreds of sales.
YEEEESSSS!!
I was waiting for the Ori games to go on sale, but I want to play them in order so I guess I'll grab will of the wisps and off to the back log it goes.
I'll take a look. I hope 3DS has some discounts too.
Could this mean a Direct is on its way for the same time? 100% yes it definitely could possibly mean that maybe.
There is always hundred of games on sale on the eShop. And most of the games on this list are already on sale multiple times a year. In fact, I don't remember the last time I logged into the eShop and Bioshock wasn't on sale...
Same old, same old...
Me thinkin these games old...real old.
@BongoBongo Direct confirmed indeed. But in all seriousness, there will probably be one within the next couple of weeks before the launch of Metroid Dread and the OLED. Can't wait.
The most and frankly only surprising thing about this list is they didn't wait another year to put Rescue Team DX on sale. Or that it went on sale at all.
Come on Nintendo, you can do better than that!
I'm getting Cuphead should they discount it 50% I've been holding out for the physical for way too long at this point 😅
33€ for the Doom Collection looks like a great deal, given that it includes the first 4 doom games.
@Whitestrider Nintendo: "Yes, we can, but what practical incentive do we have to?"
@nhSnork of course they don't have any real incentive, as long as people keep buying their games at the price they say is right...I haven't bought a single first party game on the Switch for now, I have bought more than 50 games in the last year, but I refuse to buy Nintendo's overpriced games!
If I didn't already own Ni No Kuni, Ni No Kuni at 80% off would be a great deal
@Whitestrider
There is actually a real incentive to keep the prices where they are. The wave of micro-transactions, over-priced and under-delivering dlc, pay-to-win and general decrease in quality can at least partly be blamed on customers buying in to the "race to the bottom" mentality for prices. I used to work for one of the major publishers and the owner of the company was adamantly against large sales because it hurt our ability to do good work. That company has since caved to a degree because now you can't survive if you don't. But Nintendo are odd - they can survive in their own little bubble because they make the hardware and software, Apple style. By keeping the prices where they are, Nintendo can ensure they have the money to give us quality (and no, that doesn't always mean we get it, but that's a different issue).
To be clear, I'm not saying you should buy the games at that price if you don't want. You should always only spend according to what you consider worth it. I'm simply saying that it's more pro-consumer than you'd think.
@Meteoroid nah, they are overpriced. Skyward Sword in particular is overpriced, for a game made 10 years ago...it shouldn't cost more than 40 euro/$. And games like Mario Odissey should cost 20 euro/$ by now.
@Ainze
Quite right. It’s actually a good thing that Nintendo keep their prices high. It works for them as consumers buy their games full price rather than waiting for a huge price drop within 6 months like happens with so many games (Watch Dogs Legion on Xbox is £15 physical, £24 digital in the U.K.). Consumers buying Nintendo games get the benefit of knowing that they won’t feel ripped off three months after release and the Game will hold its value if they want to trade it in or sell it on.
Of course the important thing to remember is value is subjective and everyone has their own idea of what is an acceptable price for a consumer product. But I certainly don’t want Nintendo involved in the race to the bottom that the likes of UBI Soft are involved in, it leads to more reliance on MTX and the GAAS model. It’s also apparent Sony are trying to go the same way
I'm saving me pennies for Metroid Dread, but who knows what indies might be too cheap to miss?
Is Splatoon 2 (+DLCs) worth for single player
@RCGamer yes. You won’t be disappointed
@Whitestrider and that's normal - they can offer a product at a price, you can accept or decline it. While the single digit percentage of Nintendo games in my Switch library is mostly due to me lagging behind in their respective franchises (which means I'm not in a hurry to play them), their price and discount range sure factor in as well, preventing impulse purchases where my third party wishlist may offer a good few for a given payday's VG budget. But I see no point in making a drama about it or prodding a business to give me their stuff for less money. It's "oh, cool" when it happens and "oh well" when it doesn't.
And hey, at least Nintendo DOES discount a wide range of their games at all. There are various third party games of all pricetags that either never do (The Last Remnant, Rebel Galaxy Outlaw, Dust: An Elysian Tail, Of Mice and Sand) or have spent years since the last time they did (Retro City Rampage). Granted, all the examples listed above eventually unzipped my wallet anyway.😄
Nintendo game prices have only become somewhat eye-watering for me after Russian eShop recently adjusted the prices to their local euro exchange rates... but that is just another instance of what I get for maining a Russian account for such things. 🙄😏 I still believe I'll get to play Switch 5 and PlayStation 9 on a proper Belarusian one.😄
@nhSnork interestingly enough they never discounted Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U...Not a single time (at least from what I've seen), they have discounted many other games (including a huge-for them-discount on Mario Maker), but for some reasons Mario Kart was always at full price.
I love Nintendo, but they can't hold a candle to Sony's discounts on a bad week
@RCGamer It’s much better online tho
@Ainze May I be nosey and ask which publisher?.
@Meteoroid @nhSnork @Whitestrider I think the Nintendo's price policy is good for them. When I see a game that I want, I almost never get it at full price, unless if it comes from Nintendo, because I know it'll take a lifetime to get 33% discount. First party games I buy at the first two moths (I'll preorder Metroid Dread and Advance Wars the day before the release, but I'm sure I'll get a good discount st Sparks of Hpe before at the third or fourth month) or I know I'll wait a year (at least) to get it (like I'm waiting for Nintendo's Detective Club). When people KNOW it won't drop (or will take a long time), there are little reasons to wait
Man, Nintendo and those sale discounts stink! Nintendo should give me all their games for free! 😠
Ni No Kuni 80% off, absolutely get on that if you haven't played it yet. One of the best RPGs I've ever played.
Might snag Sonic Mania
@HedgehogEngine those are not the same people...
@Pikman yeah, I know it's pretty much the focus of the game. But that's not my thing. I really don't enjoy any online game. I need to see a begining, a middle and a ending, arenas seems pointless to me and I like to play at my own pace to enjoy CO-OP. Now days there aren't many single player fucus FPS.
Might've picked up mk 11 if it was the Ultimate edition on sale & not just the standard version
On your list I have absolutely everything there bar the Metro game. I actually make take the plunge for that now.
Splatoon 2
Nintendo

Nintendo
30% ..... cool!
@Richnj
I’d rather not say, but they have been getting very good reviews for their Switch ports!
@RCGamer I don’t like online games as a rule either, I have only enjoyed MK and Splatoon 😂
I like some time trial stuff, that’s OK, but the ‘vs’ thing usually puts me right off. Hence my post before, just try it incase (it’s amazing).
@Whitestrider Maybe they didn't, but they did give another digital game away free with it in the first few weeks of release.
Nothing on the list that doesn't interest me that I don't have. I will wait until Thursday and see what has been added to my wishlist.
Same old same old.
@Ainze - "By keeping the prices where they are, Nintendo can ensure they have the money to give us quality"
Then explain Mario Golf, Mario Party, and other half-baked releases from Nintendo. Not to mention charging $60 for 10+ year old games. As someone who plays on PC, PlayStation, and XBox, as well as Switch, I can confidently say the tremendous sales I've got from other publishers have not diminished their quality in the slightest.
I'm also not prone to joining cults. As I said, I use all the platforms, so I'm not one to engage in "console war" nonsense, which is what defending Nintendo falls under in this instance.
@CazSonOfCaz While those games may not be your cup of tea, you're reacting as if they were all rated poorly and are objectively poor games.
I also find it strange that any attempt from others to give a different/wider perspective = defending Nintendo. This isn't specifically at you though - more at a common theme I see here.
I don't need eshop sales.
I will pay full price for physical versions of Cuphead, Doom Eternal, Everspace, and some other big games that for some reason are only available as a digital revokable license.
@Steel76 Posts like this puzzle me. It's too early for a Nintendo Select release
If I get it, possible I'll try. If they give this discount in Brazil, I may get it.
But I'm not a "online guy" for sure. Sometimes I enjoyed some local multiplayer (Soccer, Fighting, Beat'n Ups...) until my 20's, but for the joy with friends (and even in that case, If It happend more than twice per month I got bored).
@Meteoroid There's really no point in buying other publisher's games on day 1 - better way 3-6 months then get it cheaper, it's not like there aren't enough good games to play
@Meteoroid everytime I got a third party at full price on a Nintendo Platform, I regret it. It always have a discount before I dive into the game, sometimes it even a price drop.
The only case I did recently and didn't regret was Persona 5 Strikers. But that's because I bought in Mexico's eShop and It is something like 35% lower than the rest of the world. I don't imagine an explanation for this, but I notice it with this game and Darksiders 2.
Nice, I just bought a 128GB memory card.
Mario Odyssey and Links Awakening at the top of my shopping list for this Thursday it seems…! Love it.
@tourjeff 33% off is probably part of deal with chain retailers not to undercut them too much. That's why their shelf price is usually 20% cheaper than the eshop. For steeper discounts, Nintendo typically put their own games on their "player's choice" label. I waited 6 years for Animal Crossing on 3DS to get such treatment and 50% off!
@jsty3105 When did I say those games weren't my cup of tea? I play everything from BoTW to Tetris to Kentucky Route Zero to Red Dead Redemption 2 to Battlefield. How else would I know they were half-baked unless I bought them? Me calling them "half-baked" has to do with their lack of polish and/or content, not the quality of their mechanics.
And there's definitely a cult-like attitude around here. I've known at least 3 people that have joined honest-to-god cults, so I can recognize the behavior (one was a well-known religious cult based in Florida and California and the other was a well-known political cult. I won't mention the names of the organizations for obvious reasons). It's not just Nintendo, though. Sony fanatics are equally delusional, as are the "PC Master-Race" nutbags.
Okay but will Dark Souls be on sale? I can’t justify $50 CAN when it’s $30 or less on every other platform. What’s the deal? Nintendo tax?
Yes! Ori! Finally.
I'm surprised no one yet pointed out the two spelling mistakes.
Two letters were switched in announce and I'm pretty sure Sundar does not exist
@Steel76 honestly you're not far off. I originally estimated it was around the five year mark for the 3DS.
However, i think it was around five years for the Wii and feel it's too early for a Nintendo Selects release for the Switch. They're done to boost sales.
Arguably, there's little to no need to boost software sales since Nintendo regularly has a few titles in the top twenty in the UK (notably, they even dominated the charts once this year in Japan I believe). Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still selling crazily well. On the other hand, console sales are down so making some titles cheaper for the coming holiday season could help boost the attach rate for the new Switch OLED.
I could be wrong about all this though!
There's a Nintendo Direct tomorrow and if they happen to announce a Nintendo Selects for the Switch then it'll roughly be a similar time period to the 3DS by a few weeks.
Looked on my wish list and nothing was discounted in the sale.
Hey @Nintendolife , do an article listing the choice picks.
Big say and No direct?!? They need a direct
@FairySpring
You don't know about Sundar? You're missing out! 😆
I'm disappointed, was hoping for more. Will Rebel Galaxy Outlaw ever be on sale?
@BenAV In reality it's only 13% off on Nintendo exclusives.
Nintendo increased the price on their 2017 games by over 20% 1-2 years ago which means their games is never really discounted anymore. It's a fake sale on exclusives now.
Even Zelda BOTW price increased from 50$ to 70$ since 2017 on both eShop and physical.
@Ventilator Their prices haven't changed since launch here.
@BenAV They increased 20% on eShop and in local stores here since 2017.
Got Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX, Ninja Gaiden, a Mortal Kombat character pack and a One Piece character pack. So not bad but not a huge amount there as I already had what I wanted
See that's utter BS, the US doesn't get the Nintendo games, only the same garbage sales on games that are always on sale...for the same price even. Links awakening & mario Odyssey would be nice, but not in US sale.
And not even a Link to the eShop to purchase them? Great reporting...
Zelda and Ni no Kuni same price.
I'll nab another digital copy of Clubhouse Games for my 9 year old so we can play together.
Just picked up Super Mario Odyssey for my 9 year old. After completing SM Galaxy for the 2nd time together, I think she’s now a confirmed Mario fan
Having serious data space problems on my PS4, was thinking on buying MK11 just so I can deleted from PS and have some space for other games
(Me trying to convince me to buy games I don't need)
Got a few games here, Saints Row 4, RE: Revelations 2, The TakeOver, NFS Hot Persuit... good sale for me overall!
Is this blockbuster sale only EU? Because i am looking my NA eshop and Links Awakening and Ni no Kuni is still same price.
So I caved and grabbed Neo TWEWY and Atelier Ryza. Rune Factory 4 still mightily tempting…
Pokken very rarely goes on sale.
Nothing there discounted enough to interest me.
@Franklin It went on sale once, last year when it got a free trial on NSO.
Weird, Ni No Kuni isn't on sale. I've been lied to.
33 % off on a 4 year old game? How could I lose?
@tourjeff Doom Eternal went on 50% discount not too long ago
Awesome, so you can now buy first party Nintendo games in the sale, at prices the same as retail, with no box cart etc, so generous of you Nintendo.
