Oshiri Tantei might not be a household name in the west, but in Japan, this unusual character has starred in a wide range of books and TV shows since his inception in 2012, and comes courtesy of Yoko Tanaka (writer) and Masahide Fukasawa (illustrator), a duo known professionally as 'Troll'.
According to GTV Japan, Oshiri Tantei is a "skilled detective [and] proper gentleman. He enjoys eating sweet potatoes as well. Whenever there’s trouble, he’s there to answer the call with his famous catchphrase 'I smell trouble!'" If this all sounds worryingly familiar, then it's worth noting that the series has been localised under the name Butt Detective in the west, and is available on Netflix in North America.
Why are we telling you all of this? Well, Nippon Columbia has just announced that it is bringing Oshiri Tantei: Pupu Mirai no Meitantei Toujou! to Switch on November 4th. As you might expect, it's only confirmed for Japan and will retail for 6,380 yen – however, the aforementioned Netflix release might mean we get to see this over here, too.
Here's some PR (thanks, Gematsu):
Oshiri Tantei: Pupu Mirai no Meitantei Toujou! features a game-original story supervised by the original author. In this exciting and heart-pounding story, the player takes on the role of an apprentice at the Oshiri Tantei Office, and solves difficult cases alongside Oshiri Tantei, his assistant Brown, and the Wankoro Police.
Photologic Adventure: Solve Mysteries by Taking Photographs and Gathering Information
Oshiri Tantei: Pupu Mirai no Meitantei Toujou! includes many scenes in which players must solve mysteries by taking photographs. Use photographs to make inferences such as searching for evidence on the vast field, or staking out the crime scene and taking photographs of the conclusive crime scene. The camera is also used for a variety of other areas.
A Variety of Mini-Game-Style Labyrinth Games
As you attempt to uncover the truth of each case, the popular labyrinth games from the original children’s books will occur, through which you can chase down the culprit. In these games, you control the player character with the intuitive controls of an action game while using various tricks to track down the culprit.Familiar and Popular Characters from the Anime Appear, Voiced
Oshiri Tantei, Brown, Kaitou U, and other familiar characters from the anime will appear en masse in Oshiri Tantei: Pupu Mirai no Meitantei Toujou!. The voice actors from the anime reprise their roles for the game (which is partly voiced), so you can enjoy movie scenes as if you were watching the anime.
Much More to Do Even After Solving the Riddles
Many detective adventure games are no fun to play after clearing the game once, but this game is full of replayability elements. For example, the scene for the “Special Move” unleashed by Oshiri Tantei changes depending on how you solve the case, and the location of the “Butt Marker” changes each time you play.
Complete with Bonus Elements for Oshiri Tantei Fans
The game comes complete with “Bonus” elements that Oshiri Tantei fans are sure to enjoy, including the ability to play the labyrinth games from the main story in Time Attack mode. And by spending the points obtained based on your gameplay results, you can collect Special Move scenes and listen to the voices of the cast.

what a time to be alive
Finally, a game for me!
I'm not too surprised that this exists tbh
This needs a western release COME ON NINTENDO! lmaoooooo
What in the… 😂🤣💩💩. GOTY!
I can't make head or tails of why, butt this reminds me of one of my favourite German words: arschgesicht. Sorry for my potty mouth, pardon my German French.
“Hey ma, can I get Butt Detective for my birthday?”
“…Talk to your father…”
“Butt, maaaaaaaaa…..!!!”
:: both look at each other as camera slowly zooms out and audience cheers in a standing ovation before curtain drops ::
As a teacher, dad of two boys and literature fan.
These books are quite good childrens books. I completely understand why they are popular.
There really is no butt to this joke.
This has unlocked a memory of an old forgotten Adult Swim series. Anyone else ever watch Assy McGee?
There is a Butt head Yokai in Yokai Watch.

OMG. I am disgust
He literally talks out of his arse
no
no

hn-hn
NO
@jco83 You mean that he's talking crap amirite?
@ChromaticDracula Now that's some toilet humor everyone needed ( flushes the toilet )
I wonder if he has any dangly bits on the back of his head
This. This is the ultimate culmination of Japanese pop culture. Past this, it will only be downhill.
What an assface!
Every once in a while in my household here in Japan when my 3-year-old isn't demanding that we let him watch Unwatchable Crap™ on YouTube and I'm not forcing him to watch vaguely-educational DVDs (for example. They Might Be Giants), we turn on the actual factual TV, and sometimes this show comes on. For a show about a butt-faced-boy, it's surprisingly incredibly boring.
Now that I know about this, I wish it would be translated to English asap
@Anti-Matter I came here to mention this. The design for this character reminds me of Cheeksqueek and Cuttincheez!
So when he speaks, does that automatically qualify as talking s-t? 💩😂
Someone needs to make a crossover where Butt Detective and Assy Mcgee team up.
As long as he doesn't gamble, we're good.
Came here for the butt-jokes, stayed for the Wankoro police.
Might as well just throw in Assy McGee as the chief.
"Ma'am, I'd like to ass you a few questions...
firstly, do you have any breath mints I could have? Perhaps some Binaca?
How do you like my aria? 'assholo miiiiooooo!!!!'"
Do you like my oddly suddenly relevant Jim Carrey movie quotes?
Too soon?
Aaaaaaallllrighty then. leaves
@Anti-Matter Baby cheeks has all grown up, and even solves mysteries too!
Watched a few of these and one episode starts with the detective – who has a bum for a head, remember – eating cake. “How does a bum eat cake?” I hear you ask. Answer: with a fork.
Hey thanks for sharing that old video! There were 4 games released on iOS almost 10 years ago but they really aren’t much more than an interactive book. The promise of a real game looks exciting!
Obstruction!
