Nintendo may have ended major content updates for Super Mario Maker 2 earlier this year, but this game is still receiving plenty of community support. In a tweet via the official Nintendo of America Twitter account, it was revealed players have now uploaded more than 20 million courses to the Course World since the game arrived on the Switch last June.
Nintendo hasn't completely moved on, either. As part of the 35th Mario anniversary celebrations, there'll be an appropriately themed Ninji Speedruns course coming to the game this November. Here's a look:
How many courses have you uploaded? Are you still playing this first-party title on a regular basis? Tell us down below.

I barely played this to begin with honestly. I played story mode, I played like 100 to 200 stages, before I felt bored because the vast majority of stages are just terrible.
@Yosher I played through and 100%'ed the story mode, played a few player created stages and I was done with the game.
I enjoyed my time with the game, but I don't like creating the stages. I imagine for the people who like to make their own levels the game is a dream.
And 99% of them are terrible.
If there's one Mario spin-off I can live without, it's this one. I even prefer Mario sports titles over Mario Maker.
If someone could recommend me some good worlds/courses that are not like Tubular, crowded with enemies or speed run like, I'd appreciate it. Something in line with what one can find in regular games. I enjoy creativity, but people have gone too far in terms of difficulty
@AlexSwitch10 Pretty much yeah. I did create several in the original game but for some reason I just don't feel like it in this one, having made only a single (bad) stage. The novelty of having a(n official) Mario level creator has worn out for me I think.
I miss the Amiibo outfits from the first one 🥺
@AlexSwitch10 Yes, I like to make my own levels and the game was a dream. I am sorry others on this thread did not like it. I personally loved it. The story mode was a game unto itself and worth at least half the cost of the game. But the creator aspect is where the game really shines.
I like the ease of interface, the many options, the almost immediate feedback as people play your levels. The creating feels so good.
Then, there are the 20 million levels! Yes, it is easy to get lost. But, there are online helps (like this website that led me to some fantastic levels) and simply hunt and peck and find some fun tries from around the world.
Personally, I enjoy the game more than most Mario games.
@AlexSwitch10 same for me, I couldn't even get through all the tutorial for creating stages.
Just to think how time demanding, and how much planning there must have to create something nice, it feels more like work than playing lol
Yes and 90% of them are garbage! Can we please just have a new 2D mario made fully by Nintendo? People who have no concept of how to make fun well thought out levels shouldn't be doing this. It was a nice idea on paper but i think the mario maker fad has run it's course.
lol at everyone complaining about most levels being terrible. That's why you turn to online communities to find the good stuff. Do a bit of digging and you can find some real gems.
@John_Deacon
Try my world, I tried to make it so the difficulty curve progresses naturally. The first world is very easy and gets harder from there on.

Here is my levels on Wii U. Quite different from most other levels.
Titanic, Bruce Lee Remake, Caverns of Khafka etc.
Too bad there is no way to import them on Switch.

I need to start playing this again. I was hyped AF for this game, but after finishing the story mode, I haven’t played it that much. Was looking forward to online play, but that’s still not working.
@John_Deacon I made it more for gameplay instead of speed and different from everyone else, but on Wii U version.
If you have it on Wii U, you can grab my levels here.
Unfortunately it's still in my backlog unplayed! Need to check it out really but the first Mario Maker put me off but this time I'll do some digging to hopefully find better levels.
@Zeldafan79 I would definitely be up for a brand new 2D Mario game.
My son only really got the hang of it recently, so it’s still “new” here!
Maybe some of the complainers could try creating their own levels.
@John_Deacon I've made a coherent set of Mario 3 levels that have multiple routes and are fairly easy to finish. I'm halfway through a set of Mario World levels too.

@FatHedgehog now that’s a comment I can agree with
And 100,000 of them are good!
Great game and most of the levels created from players are just awesome. Those up there ( @Yosher @Reynoblade @Zeldafan79 @HeroponRiki ) that say otherwise don't know what they're talking about.
Whether the levels are bad depends on your opinion. If you don’t like troll levels, then you don’t like those levels. If you don’t like Kaizo levels, you don’t like those. It’s all opinions.
I uploaded 92 levels on my first account, with the majority being not too good. But I wanted a fresh start and make good levels, so I started a second account.
It was fun, though I admittedly didn't put that many hours into this game. Course creation is more fiddly in the sequel, which put me off creating that many levels.
I love this game. I kinda miss the multiple characters you could play as that was in the Wii U version using Amiibo, but still a lot of fun.
I just don't like how Nintendo made every game in MM feel like NSMB cuz those games feel terrible. How dare you hurt my boy Mario 3 in such a way!
And most of them are crap!
If anyone wants to play Super Mario Bros. 3 in multiplayer look up my ID: H1R-X6F-NRF I made every single level in the game in Super Mario Maker 2, but only the first four worlds are in my Super World.
Yeah, it was fun but I wished more people did viewer levels, all I saw on Twitch were those challenges/speedruns stuff...The ones that did viewer levels never lasted long. Bleh, well at least I got a couple of popular youtubers to play one of my levels on their streams, those were fun.
This is a fantastic game! I really like it. I still don't understand why Nintendo didn't give it more support. They could have kept adding more themes, power ups, items and such for a long time.
This game really made me appreciate the developers of the official 2D Mario games a whole lot more. I definitely got my money's worth out of Mario Maker, but after playing through the included single player mode, creating several levels, and trying some community levels, I was done. When I'm craving 2D Mario I'll stick with NSO and NSMBU. The levels are crafted so much better in those games. There's also a sense of progression that can't be replicated in Mario Maker.
@John_Deacon Ignore the haters and just look at the courses being played by Youtubers such as BeardBear or DashieGames. I've seen them play awesome courses.
For people that complain, I feel they really didn’t try that long. You get a few VS courses that suck, or are ridiculously tough, but 90% are pretty darn good with 10% just being amazing!
I still come back to this game every few months to see what’s going on and love it.
I would highly suggest any switch owner to pick this up as long as you have NSO.
And I don’t build at all. I made one course and that was it.
Mario and Luigi have never been so happy to build their own death traps (on the cover art)!
Well I love this game and have made a few levels. BSB-11T-XDG is my maker ID 😀
@solarhorse I played your first world today and I think you nailed the difficulty progression with some really nice levels. I especially liked Flooded Forest and the castle. I'll keep playing through your next worlds. Thanks, man
@Old-Red Thanks, man. I'll take a close look at your levels!
@Ventilator Based on your description, I'd really like to play your levels but I don't have a WiiU...
@John_Deacon Here is my Wii U levels online with screenshots.
14 in total. Wario Train, Titanic, Bruce Lee C64 remake etc.
"Super Mario Adventure" is perhaps my most played level by others.
