Paramount Pictures announced last year that it planned on releasing its Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie in cinemas by April 2022.
Things are now speeding along, and it seems the production has already wrapped up in Vancouver, Canada. Keep in mind, it only began in March this year. The film's director, Jeff Fowler, confirmed this in an update over on Twitter.
As you can see in the photo of Jeff, there are some mushrooms in the background. Of course, it's sent social media into a frenzy.
At the end of the first movie, we saw Eggman on a mushroom planet, and now some are speculating it could be the Mushroom Hill zone from the Sonic video game series.
Sonic's movie voice, Ben Schwartz, also chimed in:
CONGRATS @FOWLTOWN AND THE SONIC CREW!!! And now we record V.O. #SonicMovie2
The next stop for the Sonic movie is apparently Hawaii, which Jeff was scouting earlier this year.

HMMMM A hint to a level in SA2???
I hope this movie turns out great, And with jim carrey (Who Carry'd the whole movie) I can't see how it could be worst then the first one......Right?
EMERALD HILL LET'S GOOOOOOOO 🌴🦔
Jim Carrey can act... but far too often he just pulls faces.
I did NOT expect development updates on this.
I'm surprised everyone didn't just assume it was Mushroom Hill to begin with. Probably with a twist, like Green Hill.
I can't even go to the gym or a restaurant in Canada right now because of covid regulations, so it makes me happy to hear this POS movie can be filmed here ☺️
@KillerBOB You're in the wrong part of Canada Out here in New Brunswick everything is open and restrictions are fairly limited (masks etc.), mind you the provincial borders remain closed..
@Moistnado aren’t facial expressions a part of acting???
@Jawessome not the way Jim Carrey does it. Unless you are talking about terrible, over-acting and clowning. That said, when he is not pulling faces, he's actually really good. Truman show and eternal sunshine, his performances were great.
Still got a long way to go.
@Moistnado ok, but like... this is a Sonic the Hedgehog movie. I'm not exactly going into it looking for Oscar-worthy acting.
The first one was not bad and I am hoping the next one is even better. If Jim Carrey can keep the acting overreach within bounds there is hope.
@Bret I still remember when he ruined Batman and the Grinch. He was ok in 'Cable Guy' if you consider it a horror movie about Jim Carrey coming to you house all the time and being really unfunny, pulling silly faces and giving you a mixture of boredom and annoyance until you go mad.
@Moistnado I thought he was perfect for the Grinch. Never seen the Burton/Schumacher Batmen I'm afraid, so I can't speak to Carrey's Riddler.
@Moistnado If you dont understand Jim Carreys acting thats fine, but to say its not acting is just silly and downright wrong as its a huge part of his success and what makes alot of his movies funny.
@TheKillerTofu If you think pulling faces is greatly entertaining, good for you. Don't bother explaining to me the humor of moving your chin forwards a bit and smiling as hard as you can, I think it is lost on me.
Hope all this relative Sonic success in other mediums & formats leads to Sega wising up and finally making Sonic Adventure 3 soon!
More Knuckles & Rouge levels + that bomb jazzy rap soundtrack- "GIVE UP THE EMERALDS OR DIE, I DON'T LOVE YOU!"
... Wun can only hope.
