Earlier this year, Capcom took down a few of their games from the iOS store, in order to update them to work with the new iOS 14. The three games affected were Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice. Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney and Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth were still available.
But now it's time to crack open the bubbly and solve some murders, baby, because the ace attorney is BACK! Also, Ghost Trick, one of the greatest games of our generation! Truly, today is a frabjous day.
This news comes courtesy of the official Japanese Ace Attorney Twitter account, which also states that The Great Ace Attorney 1 and 2 are returning to the iOS App Store, too. And yes, we checked — although The Great Ace Attorney games aren't on the English App Store, the others are.
For anyone who accidentally forgot to take their 3DS with all the Ace Attorney games on it out of storage when they moved house (read: the author), this is excellent news!
Here are the individual prices for each game:
Dual Destinies
- First episode is free
- £14.99 for episodes 2-5 (or £4.99 each, for a total of £19.96)
- £2.99 for "Turnabout Reclaimed", a DLC episode sold separately
- £0.99 for a special costume set for Apollo, Phoenix, and Athena
Spirit of Justice
- First episode is free
- £14.99 for episodes 2-5 (or £4.99 each, for a total of £19.96)
- £2.99 for "Turnabout Time Traveler", a DLC episode sold separately
- £0.99 for a special costume set for Apollo, Phoenix, and Athena which references old AA games
Ghost Trick
- First two chapters are free
- £9.99 for all other chapters (or £4.99 for each bundle of three chapters, for a total of £14.97)

Now bring it to Switch!!
Wow, I was just looking into getting Ghost Trick on the DS! As much as I hate playing games on my phone, those prices are way better than what the DS cartridge is going for on eBay.
Ghost Trick on Switch, Ghost Trick on Switch, Ghost Trick on Switch...
Missile is best video game dog. CMV
They had been removed...? Well that explains the updates they got yesterday I suppose.
@Eel if you had them downloaded, they would stay on your device
I've been interested in Ghost Trick since it was reviewed in ONM back in the day but never actually bought it, which I regret now it's got so pricey. I don't really like playing games on my phone but I may have to get the mobile version unless it gets a Switch port.
@KateGray I was mostly confused by the update notes yesterday 😅
They say "made the game compatible with devices from iOS 9 to 14", but I was there like "you meant it wasn't? What have I been playing!?"
@g_ruz @Dogorilla don't be afraid of the mobile port, it doesn't make it any lesser of a game, it's an amazing story independently of the device you're playing it on.
And of course, you can always try it out first, the first chapter is free.
@Eel all great points! The fact that it’s free to start out is definitely a big selling point.
Ghost Trick is one of the most original and best games on DS it is sad that it never saw a sequel.
Hooray, I own Ghost Trick on iOS!
@Eel That's good to know! Part of the reason I don't play many games on my phone is because it's low on space and it can be a bit slow now I've had it nearly five years, but it would probably be fine for a slow-paced game like this so I suppose it would be worth clearing some space for it.
Ghost Trick was a surprisingly great game.
Man, what's the iOS install base compared to the Switch? I'm sure it's ridiculous(way bigger than Switch), but I haven't see it quantified.
I want Ghost Trick on the switch so bad. I just got an original DS copy last December but I want an HD version. Such a hidden gem. People need to know this game.
Ghost Trick is on my top ten list of games of all time.
If anyone was interested.
I see THAT dog, in THAT court, on THIS site, and I instantly think of a Phoenix Wright / Ghost Trick crossover for Switch announcement, like that Ace Attorney X Professor Layton game on 3DS I was insanely hyped for.
But as always, when I dare to hope and dream, I only get disappointed.
@Dogorilla I feel you. I wish there was a better way to play it! I'm lucky enough to have an iPad, but I do wonder if it's likely that we'll see these games on Switch some day...
@Eel I think the thing they were updating was the purchasing screen, so OF COURSE they had to take the whole game down while they fixed it to make sure that people could give them money 😅
@Shambo I am so sorry. It was just too tempting to make Missile into a lawyer
As a huge AA fan, I was always interested in GT, and finally tried it on iOS a while back by playing the free episodes (before it was pulled, apparently). Man, that game stressed me out. I don’t think I could handle the whole thing...
...but I’d totally buy it on Switch.
My copy of Ghost Trick was stolen before I could play it 7+ years ago, and I'm still salty about it. Now a secondhand copy costs a small fortune. Capcom really needs to re-release that game.
@Zimon easy. I paid 60 dollars for a new copy. It had to be in my collection.
Ok...and I as someone who reads Nintendo news should care about them being in IOS because?
And just because Nintendo release their phone games in IOS doesn't essentially mean that its ok to talk IOS news especially if those games originated from Nintendo consoles.
OK, I was gonna share that you can get a Ghost Trick copy at Play Asia but they are sold out. They weren't a few weeks ago. I think Jon's video made everyone want one for themselves haha. Thankfully I got mine on time.
Also, Missile. Easy the best dog in any video game ever.
@KateGray Doh, I just realised it's only on iOS and I have an Android. I'll just have to keep an eye on eBay or join in with the 'Ghost Trick for Switch' chant
@Socar Pretty sure it’s ok for a free website to talk about whatever they want to talk about. Especially since there are plenty of Nintendo fans who are interested in these games/played other related games on Nintendo platforms. I think it’s cool if somebody who played the PW trilogy for the first time on Switch sees this article and thinks “oh cool, I’ll check these games out”. I mean, this really isn’t much of a stretch for this audience.
I saw Missle and I got excited. I finished Ghost Trick for the first time a month or two ago and it has become one of my favorite games ever. I hope that more people play it since it is on a different platform, but I also hope for a sequel/port on switch.
I see a huge spoiler on the cover image...
@Dogorilla Ghost Trick for Switch! Ghost Trick for Switch! Ghost Trick for Switch!
Too bad they haven't released Ghost Trick on Android. Ace Attorney games are there, making it even more curious...
@nessisonett
I own it on DS MOAR BRAGGIN RIGHTS!
@Socar I'm personally of the belief that a Nintendo site can be a little console agnostic!
If there's a free demo of a game on Steam, why not play it to see if you want to buy it on Switch?
As someone who owns all these games on 3DS, why not recommend them on iOS for people who want to appreciate them on a bigger/more portable screen?
As a journalist, I want to help gamers get access to games they might enjoy, and as these games were previously locked to Nintendo consoles, I think it's worth alerting everyone to their availability elsewhere, too!
@KoopaTheGamer yeah it sucks for Android users ☹️☹️☹️
@khululy I own it on both
DESTROYED
@KateGray Monster Hunter Stories was on sale for 5 bucks on mobile earlier this month, I kinda wish NintendoLife had reported on it, because I almost missed out on it. Though I do think it would've attracted similar comments 😅
@Eel The comments won't stop me, because I can't read
I stopped playing video games on my ipad years ago after a year long dabble. It's broke now so that is the end of that escapade!
I either currently own or have previously played ALL those games. Would love to double dip Ghost Trick on the Switch doe!
@Socar You seriously telling the writers on this site what is and isn't okay to cover?
@nessisonett No cuz you own it on an apple product, that is a -999 handicap
@g_ruz Ghost trick is in my humble opinion the best ds game and best game by the devs of ace attorney I hope you like it it's my favorite!
@KateGray Except the problem is that the games are already available on other platforms so talking about them being removed on the IOS is practically moot.
The point of Nintendo related is to cover up games that is specifically on Nintendo consoles or if Nintendo based games are released on mobile. Why would a community based on Nintendo care about former Nintendo third party exclusives that are elsewhere knowing full well that they would rather get it on Nintendo consoles?
If you're going to cover this up, might as well cover up all non-Nintendo news especially on a site that is supposed to focus purely on Nintendo news.
@KateGray I'll see you in that court over emotional damage.
oh, and just to be clear...
Missile will be my lawyer!
@Socar Have you looked at Ghost Trick DS prices? If a great version of the game is now back on iOS and available for a very reasonable price, I'd say a Nintendo-based community might care about that.
We'll continue to cover great games and anything we think readers will find interesting. The story's there in the headline: if it doesn't interest you - which is perfectly reasonable - you don't have to click on it.
@dartmonkey @KateGray I approve @Socar 's notion and think we should change the name of the site to iOSLife.
Hm it sounds a bit off. iLife? Too simple. AppleLife? Sounds like life insurance. MacLife? Not mobile enough, hmmm. We'll figure out the name later.
@Eel I used to write for MacLife! It's already real!!
@KateGray ah curses, they've stolen my idea before I even had it
@dartmonkey with all due respect, my point is missed.
And yes I have seen the prices of ghost trick on ds and yes it's high as of now. That doesn't mean that it's ok to reveal the game on a platform when the site is suppose to be dedicated on Nintendo news solely. This isn't relevant to Nintendo other than no longer being exclusives which happened long before this headline.
And it's not even a good version of the game either as the original is still the best way to the game. That is all.
Look you're free to post what you want as long as it's relevant to what news you post which in this case is Nintendo which the headline must be missing games on eshop are back..not this.
@Ziondood I would really love that
