UK physical chart data is now in for the week ending 10th April, revealing that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has reclaimed that familiar top spot.
All games in the top ten saw a drop in sales this week, but New Horizons managed to shuffle up a spot to overtake FIFA 21 this time around. As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has now sold more than one million physical copies in the UK; both it and FIFA 21 are the only games released in 2020 to reach that milestone.
Elsewhere, Monster Hunter Rise remains in the top ten with a sixth place finish (it debuted in first before slipping down to fourth spot last week), and Super Mario 3D All-Stars landed in eleventh despite being officially discontinued.

I am interested in the Switch share of FIFA, maybe it increased in the lst couple of months.
"...both (Animal Crossing) and FIFA 21 are the only games released in 2020 to reach that milestone."
I don't know whether to say I am impressed that Animal Crossing did so well in the UK, (which it did, 1 million in the UK alone is very impressive, not counting digital) or sad that FIFA seems to be the only game that can consistently do so well in the UK.
Nice
How well did they do hardware wise?
Phew, got worried for a bit, but GTAV is thankfully back in the charts. As you were....
Guess that means Animal Crossing is just for all the chavs and casuals too like Fifa then?
Another great week for Switch.
Yep. Animal Crossing is going to become the Switch's number one selling title any day now. Perhaps it even has, but we won't know for sure untill Nintendo releases its quarterly earnings report.
That should happen at the end of the month, begining of the next right?
I'd be Interested in comparing digital chart to physical charts. Anyone know if there is a way of viewing this comparison?
Also what is selling more physical or digital? I'm an older gamer who been physical all the way but in the last 12 months or so has been converted to mainly digital purchases. It saves space and loving the almost instant delivery.
@Max_the_German anyone buying that FIFA on Switch needs their head seeing to
Welcome to Animal Crossing. You’ll never leave.
I wonder what's caused the jump back to number 1? Great for a small indie title like ACNH to at least get some recognition, good for the starving indie devs at nintendo
@Emin I am still "farming" the pumpkins almost everyday. But I agree with you, expanding that would be nice.
@GrailUK I can't believe that I am playing this almost everyday after more than a year from launch. Insane!
At this point, it is almost a meditative walk around my island. I am paving most of my walkways with coins (it sounds so cool when you run through them!) but otherwise I am just chill. It is a great 15 to 20 minutes of fun before I play other games.
I'm not even a Animal Crossing fan but it's great to see how much this game is selling well.
@carlos82 At this point there's really no decent alternative to FIFA if you want football on Switch though (happy to be proved wrong if anyone has suggestions)
While it's pretty scummy of EA to release the exact same game over and over, if you don't have access to it on any other platform and haven't got last years version (or the version before) then it's a decent enough game. My brother bought FIFA20 just after he got a Switch last year - he doesn't care if it's the exact same game as the previous one; he just wanted a football game to play with his family.
If you're buying it every year on Switch then I agree, you need your head examined (although I'd say anyone buying FIFA every year on ANY platform needs their head seeing to!).
Hopefully Konami release PES on Switch next year, if only to give EA a bit of competition.
An all time great IMO. Considering it is the best in the series overall.
@dmcc0 that's the thing I'd just buy the old version if I really wanted a football game on Switch given its the same game anyway, if EA released it as a budget title I could understand people buying the new one.
Yeah I don't get the need for buying yearly sports games even on the other platforms even with the changes. I like F1 games but only buy them once every few years when hopefully something genuinely changes or we get new tracks
How did Pikmin 4 do this week? Not even in the top 10. How disappointing. Oh I remember now, it’s because they HAVEN’T RELEASED IT YET!!
@carlos82 Easy enough to pick up a used physical I suppose, but do they even list the old version on the eshop when the newer one comes out?
I quite like what they did with PES this year and just called it a season update for a lower price (even better that they added it to Game Pass), but as long as the sales keep coming for EA they'll keep putting out a full price game annually.
3D All-Stars seems to have dropped out.
@beazlen1 they did. They called it 'hey pikmin'. In September 2015 Miyomoto through a translator during an interview stated that the next pikmin game was almost completed. In July 2017 'Hey pikmin' was released. Nintendo also mentioned that the pikmin team is always working on the next game. So they are most likely working on Pikmin 4 right now but when Miyomoto was asked about the next pikmin game in 2015 and he said it was almost done he was most likely referring to hey pikmin for the 3ds. Pikmin games do seem to take a while in development. Pikmin ( October 2001) pikmin 2 (april 2004, shortest time between games) pikmin 3 (July 2013) hey pikmin(July 2017). And of course pikmin 3 deluxe in October 2020. I predict that pikmin 4 will be released in 2022. Showed off this year.
@dugan Same here. I haven't missed a day. At this point, I'm done with any major island changes. Now it's just collecting all possible items and their variants, completing the museum and by extension, the critterpedia. Some little finishing touches here and there on parts of the island, trying to settle on a theme for the rooms in my house and breeding flowers to get the hybrid colors.
Where are all the wardens of the comment sections, here to tell us that physical games are dead, and that we should just "get over it"?
I plan to keep the link to this article handy. 1 million physical copies for a Nintendo game, in the UK. That's something.
I think ACNH will be in the top for a while for sales, but hours played this year will start to really drop off. I know plenty of players of the game that have said this past event that they could care less as they did it last year, and at this point they play 15-30 minutes every 3 days or so and that is it. So sales yes, actual hours played this week would be more interesting to me.
@Courageous I’ve erased Hey Pikmin from my memory. That is all that needs to be said.
I hope you’re right on 2022 release!!
@dmcc0 It's impossible to compete with FIFA. For a lot of Football Fans it's merchandise so it needs to be authentic and have the players.
You're never going to have the authenticity without being allowed to feature the likeness of the real FIFA players.
@Dr_Lugae Yeah, at this point the FIFA games are a licence to print money for both EA and FIFA.
It's sad how little the games have changed over the years while still selling a crazy number of copies: the last one I actually bought was FIFA11 on PS3, but recently played FIFA20 on Game Pass and I couldn't believe just how similar it felt.
@COVIDberry
Who says that in the weekly chart articles?
Whelp. My hopes in the future of this series are completely shattered. At least I have new leaf until the in game clock reaches it's limit..
@Nic-Noc20th-C Nintendo Life has top selling eShop titles for Europe available now. While not exactly a 1:1 comparison, Nintendo has said that Animal Crossing sales have been split about 50-50. We will know more in few more weeks when Nintendo has to file it's quarterly report.
I dont see how. Its not a bad game, but its nowhere near as good as new leaf was.
Rise is much more deserving of that #1 spot imo
@UmbreonsPapa Very nice! I am glad to know that I am not alone!
