Everyone has their own definition of retro, though we suspect a number of gamers only go as far as the NES-era when they think of old-school classics. Gamers of a certain age remember pre-Nintendo console days, however, when arcade machines made comforting beeps and bloops and made good use of vector-based visuals.
For gamers in that age bracket it may be worth keeping an eye on Terra Trilogy, which is out today on PS4 but more importantly makes its way to Nintendo Switch in July. From Funbox Media Ltd, it'll be getting a physical release (for context the PS4 disc version has a recommended price of just £19.99), and if the Switch version follows the model of the current Sony release the three games will also be available separately in the eShop.
The three games in the package are Terra Lander, Terra Lander II - Rockslide Rescue, and Terra Bomber, and each recreates and mimics a classic genre of the early-mid '80s.
We'll keep an eye out for the final Switch release date, let us know if you fancy a trip to the virtual arcade with this trilogy.

Scramble looked better than this.
@Bermanator I was just about to say that lol! Umm...looks like the wrong end of retro to me. Like a free game you'd get on the cover of an Atari ST magazine or something. Play it a couple of times then think, meh.
Shame they couldn't combine all 3 games and give us a modern Thrust (C64) or OIDS (Atari ST). I would have been all over that!! (But the art direction needs some motivation)
Why Is the word "Vibe" being soo over used of late.
@Orangezap89 It's a good word, man.
I find mimics of old arcade games very cheap and cringey for the most part. Like those "50 games in one" Joystick things you plug in to your TV. Yuck. I'd rather just find a way to play the real thing... even a potato of a PC can emulate this stuff.
I'm digging it but not at full price
@GrailUK Its a word overused by the Tiktok A s s h o l e s who promote low brow culture for financial gain.
@Orangezap89 What's tick tock?
@GrailUK You know perfectly well what that Is
@Orangezap89 HAha. Sorry I was being a cheeky monkey. Yeah, I know what it is...but I promise you I have never used it. So I am still none the wiser
Would love a proper Thrust game like the classic c64 version. Is there one on the Switch?
Same price as the Atari Flashback Classics, but Atari Flashback Classics has 150+ more games...
@Orangezap89 "Why Is the word "Vibe" being soo over used of late."
What am I going to do with 40 subscriptions to Vibe?
I've got Terra Lander remastered on my PS4 pro and really like it. It runs at 60fps, has easy and intuitive controls, and is just really enjoyable in short bursts of play. I've also played Atari Flashbacks Classics on my Switch and let me tell you, Lunar Lander isn't nearly as fun to play as Terra Lander. I'll be interested in picking this up if it runs perfectly on Switch.
Seems incredibly overpriced for what it is
Got Scramble on Xbox, so won't be bothering with this. Nice to see my childhood games being released again in some form though Where's Horace and the Spiders and Deathchase though?? Updated ZX Spectrum games on the Switch??
@Deadeyerobbie i can't think of one (otherwise I would have played it to death)
