Following last week's Japanese release of Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town - which hasn't been particularly well-received, thanks to a few new changes - some EU streamers have been given access to the English localisation of the game, which comes out later this month on the 23rd.
Streamer BiggusBennus is showing off the game from the beginning right now, so you can check out whether or not the game is the kind of farming sim you've been looking for.
Japanese reviews from critics and players have been less than favourable so far about the lack of festivals and the fact that all the makers - which turn items into processed foods, materials, and more - only process one item at a time, meaning that players have to have hundreds of them on the farm to make any progress.
Just last week, the localisation team spoke on the XSEED blog about doing their job ahead of the western release.

Having Animal Crossing NH and Stardew Valley I see no reason to get this game.
Not sure about this game yet, I'll have to watch this stream soon, see if it looks good
Rune Factory 5 here i come
"Have you been swayed by our coverage of Story of Seasons?"
Kinda?
You got my interest back into the serie, but between hearing how different this new entry will be, not having played an HM/SoS in ages and finding Trio of Towns pretty cheap, I decided to jump on that game instead.
Judging by the first critics I may have done the right move, but I'm still really curious to see how Pioneers of Olive Town will fare once it will be officially released and more reviews will be around.
I'm sticking with Mineral Town for now. Simpler for sure, but I always thought Harvest Moon was best when it nailed the simpler stuff while focusing more on relationships and cool areas rather than a million different ways to build gadgets and process items.
How is playing a video game classed as making content? How utterly low effort lol.
@BakaKnight I loved Trio of Towns!
Well looks like stardew is still king, seems story of seasons is going the way of harvest moon , getting worse with each new release
Disappointing, but not surprising either. Kinda wanted a different farm sim game other than Stardew and was holding out hope for PoOT. FoMT looks nice, but because of its age seems lacking compared to Stardew or Portia.
Multi item makers do exist in game.
After watching a bunch of let’s plays, I am still super hyped for this game. Many of the streamlined features are things i never liked about bokumono so I am still good to go.
Stardew always feels just a little off to me. Bokumono is my warm sweater.
When you stray from the path of the Harvest God and Goddess, you invite ruin.
Include me next time, and maybe your game will do a lot better.
Even with "Stardew Valley" and other games that are probably objectively better, there's still something uniquely charming about the "Story of Seasons" series. I'm 99% sure this is just my nostalgia talking but I adore this series and embrace it in all of its flawed, dated glory.
@Ryu_Niiyama nothing beats the bubble cow!
@Zuljaras Having Animal Crossing NH and Stardew Valley I see no reason to get this game.
Having Paper Mario on the N64 I see no reason to get the other Paper Mario games (or any other JRPG's). I have saved so much money that way. Haven't bought a JRPG in 21 years.
Having Super Mario Bros. on the NES I see no reason to.....
I would get this but I just started a co-op game of Stardew with my son.
@KateGray true, although the Buffalo has stolen my heart! Either way mostly bubble animals (accounting for when bokumono had normal looking animals) FTW!
I should not be this happy about a plushie.
Anybody got the fluffy plushie girl gif?
Be real how many of you found out about harvest moon from peanut butter gamer aka peebs
@KateGray Everyone seems to love TrioOfTowns, that's why I couldn't resist to pick it up even with OliveTown so close to release!
@BakaKnight I wish I could go back and play it, but I left my 3DS in storage when I moved by accident
