For generations, many people have judged video games on one important metric: can you pet the dog? Breath of the Wild may have failed, but To The Rescue doesn't - it goes above and beyond.
Not only can you pet the dog in this upcoming canine shelter sim, but you can also nurse them back to health, raise money for them, and try to pair them up with their forever home. The dogs are all procedurally generated, with their own traits and preferences, and each person that comes to the shelter will be seeking something specific from their new pooch pal.
The challenge in To The Rescue is not only finding homes for dogs, but also in keeping the kennels open - you'll have to raise money and awareness to keep the place running, and even to upgrade the shelter, food, and staff. It's not all doom and gloom, though - minigames will let you give the pups scritches, too!
To The Rescue will launch on Switch this Autumn, for the price of $19.99 - and 20% of the profit will go to real-life dog shelters, so you can feel extra-fuzzy about your purchase.

@1ofUs Can't pet the owls either..
We always support our local shelters. Where else can you get free meat for a curry?
I am once again asking to pet the dog.
So we made this game, it sucks but it supports dog shelters. Please buy it.
Ohhhhhh everything for the doggos.
This is a great idea for a game. Definitely gonna give this a try.
Aww it looks cute. And I like that it helps real dog shelters.
@1ofUs you can interact with the cats and dogs in Fire Emblem: Three Houses by giving the treats!

Edit: You can also feed and play with the dogs in Breath of the Wild. Unfortunately you can't pet them, but you can still give them tasty treats.
You pay 20, play the game and 4 or less go to dog shelters...
or, you give 10 to a shelter and spend 10 on a better game...
Decisions...
@1ofUs luckily you can play fetch and carry dogs in Twilight princess
Unpopular opinion; If any of you think this is a smart way to support a shelter, mind you the developers choose that shelter, and it's like 99% chance it isn't your local one. Your time is better spent helping your local shelter, where you can easily see and feel your efforts going to work.
If you're doing this to support dogs, you're doing it wrong.
@Paraka I agree somewhat but I do not need happy dogs to be local, that's not really an issue for me. I do think there is less control over who gets the money compared to giving to the people or animals that need it. I recall BBC telethons funding warlords and militant regimes in the past. alternatively, give money directly to a shelter, so that 100% of the money goes to a shelter. I suppose at least they made the effort, it is still a nice thing to do, but hardly a logical selling point.
This game doesn’t look great tbh. I would rather donate £10 directly to an animal shelter and buy stardew valley for £10.
I’m not into sims games as much but this has my attention!
@Moistnado - I get it, my peace is with people thinking this is their way of helping out. Though it is admirable they made a game to help THEIR local shelter, it's only so much for so long a time.
And honestly, I got by a mantra of, "The greatest impact is personal impact." Meaning if you want to do charity, do it through your own actions. I have 3 rescue dogs myself, so I often donate food directly to my nearby shelter (one that isn't well known like Dumb Friends League).
