The original Super Mario 3D World on Wii U introduced the Double Cherry, a brand new power-up that creates a clone of your character, essentially allowing players to control two or more versions of themselves at the same time. Naturally, the item is present once again in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury on Switch.
Interestingly enough, it seems that to this day, plenty of players don't know about a cool little trick you can pull while you and your friends have Double Cherries in multiplayer mode. As demonstrated in Nintendo's tweet below, ground-pounding one of your friends' clones will let you 'steal' that clone for yourself – a great way to score more points when you reach the flag pole.
We're going to be all smug here and say that we did know about this – although we only discovered it very recently ourselves – but judging by reactions we've seen online and from one or two NL staff members, it's certainly not common knowledge.
So, did you know about this trick? Do you know of any other little secrets in the game that aren't ever spelled out to you? Let us know in the comments, and have fun messing with your friends next time you play!

I'm definitely gonna use this.
I will be doing this to my wife on purpose now, thank you. It happened by accident before, but never caught what caused it.
I didn't. I played a lot the game (5 star save on Wii U and four with the fifth on the way on Switch) but I never actually played multiplayer. The closest I was to multiplayer was add another character in the end of the level to try to finish with multiple characters at once
Hopefully they patch in online matchmaking and I will pick it up.
I'm not buying 2 copies to play with the Mrs as we played it to death on wii-U.
No, I don't have friends
ruined friendships even more by stealing the other player's clone!
probably, Nintendo
@Mr-Fuggles777 it has same- screen multiplayer
@RandomGamesAndStuff that would be quite difficult, I sold my switch because I never hooked it up to the TV and got us 2 Lites.
Oh no... So who is the real Mario and Luigi?!?!?!
if only the Game Grumps knew
LUIGI: FINALLY! AFTER ALL THESE YEARS I CAN FINALLY KNOW HOW IT FEELS LIKE TO BE MARIO!
mario: YOU'VE BEEN CLOOOOOONED!
I have 8 kids, so this game has been a multiplayer dream come true. Didn't know about this trick though. I'll have to see how many times I can pull it off before they figure it out 😄
Uh, yeah. I knew this.
Was this in the Wii U version too? Although wouldn't have changed anything for me anyway, apparently you need "friends" for this? Can't say I've heard of what that is
I'm a 3D World newb, and this is news to me. Thanks!
I already knew about that trick through watching a Let's Play.
I never knew about this until about a week ago, when I saw it happen while watching a few Twitch streamers playing the game together. Was pretty surprised.
Hi, Day one Wii U nerd here. Reporting in to say YOU CAN DO WHAT?
@RadNitro89
"I already knew about that trick through watching a Let's Play."
What "Let's Play"?
I use it a lot in co-op plays like "I took multiple cherries, take some of them". I thought it more of a way to "share" if you were able to pick many cherries but your playmates didn't.
Couldn't be as bad as the other night when my brother in law kept throwing me off the stage. On purpose.
I feel like I saw this in a promotional video a couple years ago but I don't know.
@Mario500 A Let's Play (LP) is a video (or screenshots accompanied by text) documenting the playthrough of a video game, usually including commentary or a camera view of the gamer's face.

@Mario500 Oh that's what you meant. It might have been either SGBlikestoPlay, BrainScratchComms, or TheRunawayGuys.
I remember finding it through an official tips video, starring puppet Mario characters.
