No seriously this game is great. Koei Tecmo really did their homework in terms of streamlining the Persona gameplay to fit the Warriors formula. The story is pretty formulaic thus far but the gameplay is extremely polished. Zio costing 8 SP is pretty bull tho. This game is a real stickler when it comes to you actually maintaining a high enough magic bar for your Persona skills

Also you can skateboard while listening to the Persona 1 PS1 battle music

im planning on getting Persona 5 Strikers off of the Switch eshop and play a little bit of it even though I never played Persona 5. But sometime I will eventually get Persona 5 from the PSN store for my Playstation 3.

Last time i played a good decent Persona game or two were Persona 2 and Persona 3 for my PSP a couple of years ago

Just had my copy delivered today! First time in a while I've gotten release day delivery through Amazon. I'm going to try to hold off playing until I beat Trails of Cold Steel, but it'll be tough.

I wanted an action combat version of Persona, but not warriors style. As far as I know, I'm skipping this game.

It's a VERY good looking game, though.

Now's the time to do what publishers did at the early years of the Switch:

"Oh, so you want me to buy this game? Well, first you'll have to get me the OTHER one. Then we'll check if it's viable"

If stuff like this sells well on PC and not Switch, then Sega is going to get the idea and start prioritizing PC ports of their games. Meanwhile the people who boycotted this will whine about third parties ignoring them.

Thankfully, a LOT of third party stuff sells really decently on Switch, and I'm hoping the online whiners are a minority in this regard.

@Bobb An LP is probably ideal if you can't play the game. The ones listed as "walkthrough/no commentary" tend to be second best to having firsthand experience with the game.

A LOT of the game is just reading/listening to dialogue, so it's not as bad as watching something like a Mario LP.

Got mine on Saturday - nice extra music bonus if you own Smash. Game is great, and a real nostalgia-fest if you loved P5. I am seeing a lot of people advising not to buy on Switch because of long load times. Honestly, I’m not having problems with it.

Persona 4 Golden sells half a million in a week & becomes the most concurrently played single player JRPG on Steam and P5S is among the top 2 global top sellers at the moment

@TheFrenchiestFry To be honest, I am one of those people who doesn't want to get this game because Persona 5 isn't on Switch. I don't want to get another system just to play proper Persona 5, and to play this kind of mosuo-style game I want to have a proper connection with its world and characters first before I dive into it.

I loved both Hyrule Warriors because I love Zelda and that helped me connect with these games. I disliked Fire Emblem Warriors because I never really managed to get very much into Fire Emblem in general. So for me to properly be able to enjoy Persona 5 Strikers, I'm going to need Persona 5 proper on Switch so I can connect with its world and characters before diving into Strikers.

But I'm also not in a rush to ever get this game to begin with. For me it's simply a 'if it happens, cool, if not, no loss' kind of dealio.

Either way it's nice to see people enjoying it regardless!

I've been playing the game in short bursts over the weekend and I'm loving it! It actually does feel like a sequel to Persona 5 and not just some hack and slash spin-off. I can't wait to play more when I get time away from my job.

@TheFrenchiestFry Switch owners know how this works. There's a reason Capcom drastically ramped up support for the platform, and it's not because people didn't buy their early "test the waters" ports.

The massive influx of support from NIS, which includes the pretty unprecedented amount of Falcom representation on Switch, can be traced back to how well Disgaea 5 Complete sold on Switch.

I'm not too worried about Catherine, considering it never seems to sell particularly well on any platform. P5S was within spitting distance of the PS4 release in Japan last I checked, and Sega will expect lower sales given the lack of the base game. So, as usual, it comes down to Western sales of the game.

Nice trailer, I'll be getting my physical preorder after work today, but will hold off on playing for a while.

I've been earnestly trying to get through P5 on my PS3 for the past few weeks, but it's a big honkin' game and I think maybe I'm halfway through it? (I only just had Makoto Niijima join the team.)

My playstyle doesn't help - I go through areas really slowly so I don't miss any XP, items, or NPC encounters, plus I tend to rewind and listen to the Japanese dialogue a few times if I can't decipher what they are saying. It's taking an eternity!

I do wish I could play the original game on Switch, and held off for a long time before finally getting a used copy on PS3. I just gave up hope after a while, though, especially since the game must have a really large file size...

This Strikers game does have Japanese voicetrack as an option, right?? (fingers crossed)

@TheFrenchiestFry you can say whatever you want about switch port “beggars” or whatever you call them but people on all fronts beg for games to come to their favorite system. That being said persona 5 does make sense to come to the switch since they are doing strikers. It’s completely logical. I wouldn’t mind it at all of shin megami tensei 5 came to PS4 or ps5. There is a demand to have persona 5 on switch. It’s not small compared to other games that people want on switch. You can call us whiners all you want but it seems like you and some of the other people here have something against either us switch owners having the game or asking for it or both.

Will pick this up at some point, but more interested in bravely default 2

The beggars are a completely different story. You don't gain anything from constantly watching Atlus' social media like a hawk just to drop your reply #357 about how you desperately need a P5 Switch port, or basing your entire social media presence around cooercing a PR team who probably doesn't even read your tweets into telling Atlus JP to "give the fans what they want". Those people can piss right off

Going to pick up my copy today. May play this in between Bravely Default 2 for a change of pace. Still hoping for a Persona collection on Switch.

@WoomyNNYes So one note, they remove a LOT of the annoying parts of combat (running around capturing points) and it feels great to play, look through some full gameplay videos its super neat how they did it.

@Yosher I wish more people had your attitude. Totally understandable to not want to play a sequel if the publisher hasn't given access to the original on the platform you own. Too many folks act like Strikers existing on Switch/PC is a slap in the face. Instead of, you know, a game they can choose not to buy.

How is this game for someone who has never played any previous entry and has no idea of who are the characters ?

I would give it a miss as you would be missing a lot of backstory on characters etc, would say if you like these types of games you will like it but without playing persona 5 you will be missing a lot.

@Cyz i wouldn't recommend it, i mean you should be fine but it really does exist for those who've played p5 and know the characters already. i suggest at least watching a full playthrough of the story

I never played Persona 5 and don't have the means to, so this is a hard pass for me. Also I can't stand the musou genre. But that's okay, not every game is for everyone. Glad we have lots of people enjoying it!

I bought it digitally, and will be streaming it live tonight on Twitch after work.

@Cyz You can approach the game as a standalone thing and you'll mostly be fine, but you will be missing out on specific references to the characters' arcs and various events from Persona 5

@TheFrenchiestFry I can agree with some things you said but you should continue to voice your requests to some extent. Especially this game because even a communications managers from AtlusUSA told us to keep telling them what we want which is persona 5. It actually doesn’t have to be personal 5 royal. I am happy with the original. If people from a company is saying it’s okay to say what we want from them, then we are doing something right and not doing any harm in saying “can we please get a switch port of persona 5”. If people are being mean about it, then I can agree with on that. But not everyone is annoying about it, they just get drowned out by the people who are.

I try to keep my game series on the same platforms for the most part, so I don't see why I'd get this on Switch, when I've already had the original P5 on Ps4 AND especially when games like this feel so much better at 60 fps (hits it on PS4 and above), and the Switch version is only 30.

Been waiting by my mailbox since I woke up, I cannot wait to get my steelbook! Just beat SMT1 the other night and I cannot wait to go on another epic adventure with the phantom thieves!

A communications manager at a translation branch of a Japanese company has practically no say or power over what gets made. Atlus West don't make the games. They don't make the top super important business decisions, they don't oversee any of the games, they don't do anything other than translate the games for English audiences. Atlus Japan are the only people who have any stake in what gets greenlit, what gets developed or even what gets brought over to domestic shores for us to play

If a Persona Switch port of any of the main games happens, it won't be because of Atlus West or because the communications manager said some stuff about wanting to hear people vocalize their demand for a Switch port. This demand also doesn't necessarily translate to sales given Persona 5 Royal is still doing incredibly well as a PS4 exclusive, Catherine Full Body only did ok on Switch while it did a lot better on PS4, and Strikers' sales on PS4 have crushed the Switch version's, and I wholeheartedly expect even the PC version of Strikers to outsell the Switch version as well.

If there were really that many people who actively advocated for this series to come to Nintendo systems then Persona wouldn't be doing nearly as well as it is right now sticking to the status quo. All this stuff about BreakFreePersona or acting like vultures on social media still hasn't really taken a toll on the series' success at all.

The only way to vocalize that you want to see the series on Switch is to simply support Atlus. That includes buying this game and any other game of theirs on the Switch, not by tweeting or hashtaging anything directed towards them. That's why Atlus has gone all in on PC stuff with P4G, P5S, Catherine and likely SMT Nocturne as well, because people went out in droves to buy their stuff when it was made available to them.

@TheFrenchiestFry I know and I am pretty sure other people know not to bug a communications manager. People know they don’t make games or budgets for them. I am trying to say that people don’t know who to contact since game companies generally don’t have direct line for anybody to reach them or even if they do, guarantee that there message would even be read by a person at the top of the company who makes decisions. But the communications person was right though. You just have to say what you want. I am not saying everyone is going to get what they want of course but at least try

i watched P5 anime in 3 days and play P5S since today....that was the only mode to know the story for me. i only have switch

@Crono1973 I don’t see it that way. I have been to others boards for years and port beggars as you call them are everywhere. Some of us are not starved for games either like you said. I know you want to make fun of me and other people but not everybody plays every type of game out there. Almost no one has time for that. There are specific games and genres that people like. People that like jrpgs would generally love to play persona 5. Not some warriors/musou sequel. I have personally had enough of those types of games. They are repetitive to me and others. But that’s another story. If we want a game that is not exclusive to a system then of course people will ask for it. Especially if it isn’t too technically demanding and if it’s popular enough.

@geo-shifter How comfortable is it to play with Joy-Con only? Do your thumbs or hand hurt?

It's probably my only concern right now. I know, it's weird.

@puddinggirl I have a Satisfye grip, which kept my hands comfortable while playing in handheld.

Only on Switch to try and justify Joker in Smash.

@Riku3456 Persona 5 was a PS3 game originally (I think). I am sure the Switch can run it and no doubt it can P4G as well.

Atlus needs to get someone else to publish their games because they absolutely SUCK when it comes to timely localization, maintaining hype/awareness and marketing.

They release a game in Japan then take almost a year for it to reach the west with very little to no marketing or hype/awareness. They are awful and in hindsight only serve to damage their own product releases. Do most people even know/care this is releasing??

@Crono1973 It was a simultaneous release with the PS4. Oh and yes...the Switch can definitely run it.

@TheFrenchiestFry What if I'm legit not interested in P5S because I don't have a console that has P5, so without any sort of knowledge of the lore or context for the references, in-jokes and relationships between characters, I feel like a major reason to play these sorts of games is lost on me?

Both Hyrule Warriors are perfectly playable if you know nothing of the LoZ series, but you get so much more out of them being a fan. I might be a Persona fan if I had access to the game(s) and had something to whet my appetite first.

So no outrage or boycotts here, just can't find a reason to be excited for yet another Musou game.

@burninmylight Its not really a musou game...not at all...but yeah, you would get WAY more enjoyment out of the game if you have played the first game, even if just for a bit.

It really is a shame the original isnt on Switch. Much more people would be interested in this game/franchise

@burninmylight The story I feel is standalone enough where you can get by and enjoy the core narrative being told on its own merits. The callbacks to P5 and its events/arcs are additive to the experience for the people who've played P5, rather than something to deter you from actually getting the game because they're very brief, they're not in excruciating detail to the point where they spoil major plot points since they're usually not given context in the dialogue, and they tell you enough surface level stuff about the characters where it's totally serviceable if you choose to make it your first Persona game

It's fine enough as a standalone game. It just gets recontextualized considerably if you have the knowledge of P5's events beforehand. It's also not a traditional musou whatsoever. Encounters play out a lot more like Persona 5's ambushes where you're actually discouraged from running headfirst into battles and instead stealth is highly encouraged, the enemy amount is considerably smaller than pretty much any other musou I've played, and it's actually difficult enough where it won't just be a mindless hack n' slash thing since it employs a lot of the strategy of turn based Persona with enemy weaknesses, Persona skills and even fusing new Personas in the Velvet Room and seeing how they affect your outcome in battle.

@Crono1973 yeah. You are right. It was. It was in development for PS3 first, since development of big games like that usually take a while. I think it was the last ps3 game, in America at least.

I was quite excited for this but I’m concerned I won’t have a clue what’s going in since I’ve never played a Persona game...

@quigtendo Persona games are generally standalone experiences. This game so far lightly references Persona 5 in particular from what I've played and practically doesn't at all reference any of the other numbered entries

@TheFrenchiestFry Well I didn’t play Witcher 1 & 2 but managed fine with 3. I think because I’d like to play 5S at some point so will try and get 5 on a different platform first. I’d rather get the most out of a game.

The good thing is that I haven’t finished P5 on my PS5, so that helps me not buy this yet. I bought too many other games this holiday season that I need to finish first.

My first impressions are... WOW OMG I LOVE THIS GAME!

This was everything I wanted it to be and much, much more.

It hasn’t cracked the Top 30 on release day in the US, which tells me Altus is vindicated for not taking the time to port P5 to Switch after all.

Not a fan at all of Hyrule Warriors (I really tried) but loved P5R. Any chance I'll like this?

I just want the Japanese version to be updated and have English support now that the game has been released in the West. Importing an English copy would take some time.

Not buying it. Not until/unless we get the real Persona 5 on Switch.

Will be picking it up on Steam. I would buy the Switch version if not for its atrocious load times.

@Mr_Humpf Good spot. That explains a lot. He’s right about the auto-play feature on cut scenes being a godsend too. Can’t believe it wasn’t in the Japanese version.
