This week's Arcade Archives release has been announced, and it's taking us back to 1993 with the little-known Jaleco shmup Cybattler.
Boasting loads of mechs and a rather unique control system, Cybattler was released in arcades at a time when most coin-ops were trying to imitate Capcom's Street Fighter II and therefore went rather unloved.
Cybattler was never ported to any home system and didn't get any kind of sequel (although its main robot – Blanche – was added as a DLC ship to the Japanese version of Psyvariar Delta on Switch). Thankfully, it will have a second chance to shine due to its addition to the Arcade Archives series.
Cybattler launches tomorrow, February 18th, and will cost $7.99 / €6.99 / £6.29. You can check out what it looks like in action thanks to the video below, and don't forget to also check out the complete list of Arcade Archives titles.

Robotech influences detected
Always ready for a 90s-era sci-fi shm’up!
Which reminds me, when is the Capcom Arcade Stadium due for release?
@dimi [Pedant mode engaged] I think you mean Macross.
The Switch really is a Jaleco machine, eh?
I'd buy Avenging Spirit on Arcade Archives at least, enjoyed the GB version on 3DS when I was younger.
OH MY GOD
This is my FAVORITE shooter. What a day.
To heck with the direct, this is all the news I needed!

@Damo
No I’m pretty sure they mean Robotech.
I have the US physical release of Psyvariar Delta and I bought Blanche as DLC with that version. I haven't played Cybattler in 15 years or more so I'm looking forward to playing it. It feels right now having Blanche in Psyvariar.
@GameOtaku It's a joke, because whenever anyone says anything about Robotech, someone usually pipes up and mentions that Robotech is really Macross. 😂
I'll keep an eye on this one. Didn't know about it, but it's the nth surprise Hamster release, as it doesn't belong to the dozen titles already announced but still unreleased. So more surprises are coming for sure.
@Damo
Yeah I know the history of Robotech and Macross. After adapting it though Robotech has taken on its own story separate from that of Macross. Similar to Sentai and Rangers.
@GameOtaku thing is, this is a Japanese developed title right? So they wouldn’t be influenced by Robotech, they’d be influenced by Macross. Though there’s not that much of a Macross influence, with no transforming, and I don’t remember Beam Sabers being much of a thing in Macross.
But Robotech leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth these days, since Harmony Gold uses it as a means to block any official release of anything Macross in the West these days.
Awesome, i love Psyvariar Delta so it's nice to have an opportunity to explore the DLC's origin.
For once a pleasant surprise, nice to see more 90's era games.
Does it play like Shock Troopers or Battlemania 2?
Maybe this means we can start hoping for Hyper Duel in the arcade archives, now THAT would be impressive!
Never heard of this one before but I want it. I like the idea of being able to shoot in different directions and the energy bar instead of one hit and that's it. Can't quite figure out what's going on with the charge meter in the left hand corner though.
@DrDaisy not sure if you've tried this one yet — I missed the article when it came out — it's like a cross between Shock Troopers and a traditional vertical shooter in that the game auto scrolls and only stops for bosses.
@BloodNinja I don't come across too many people familiar with this game, let alone those that consider it their favorite. Cybattler really is an excellent game and I love it as well. It has some great ideas and execution. Glad to see it re-released by Hamster this way. I don't know how I missed this article being posted.
@sdelfin The music is another strong point. Yep, I love this game to pieces.
