Lucasfilm Games has just teased an Indiana Jones video game from Wolfenstein studio MachineGames.
The teaser trailer doesn't give much away, apart from the Bethesda, Machine Games and Lucasfilm Games logos (and Indy's iconic whip, of course), but it's already got people very excited about the prospect.
Here's MachineGames' statement:
A new Indiana Jones game with an original story is in development from our studio, Machinegames, and will be executive produced by Todd Howard, in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. It'll be some time before we have more to reveal, but we’re very excited to share today’s news!
The question is, of course, could this possibly come to Switch? Microsoft now owns Bethesda so the sensible bet is this being an Xbox exclusive, but there have been indications that future Bethesda games could still launch on multiple formats – a sensible move when you consider it will reach the widest possible audience.
Of course, there's then the question about if the Switch could be included. Bethesda has previously been very supportive of Nintendo's console, releasing the likes of Wolfenstein II, DOOM, DOOM Eternal and Skyrim on the system. However, this new Indiana Jones title will presumably be next-gen only, and it's perhaps a little naive to expect the Switch to be able to play it (unless, of course, the cloud gaming route is taken).
Whatever happens, it's great to see Indy back in the world of video gaming. Anyone with fond memories of Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures and Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings will no doubt be looking forward to seeing what this title turns out like.

Cool, they can even keep Hitler as the bad guy.
@Lordplops
For all we know IJ 5 the antagonist could be Hitler ............................................................................................................................'s brain.
YES, I'm already excited! I'd buy an XBox just for this and Flight Simulator if it turns out to be an exclusive. (if the game turns out good, never pre-order).
Also, amazing choice of image for this article, @Damo! Good job
I was wondering the other day if we were gonna receive news of a Wolfy 3...it seems we're not 😣
I'm glad for Indy fans, but I never liked him and so I hope someone is still working on Wolfy as well, so everyone can be happy 😃
It's kinda weird though to think of big studios working on licensed games, given their fame and legacy, but with this and the new 007 IO Interactive game, we could be in for a golden era of licensed games!
This belongs on an XBox website.
@GrailUK but if it was nobody would read it.
Looks Promising. i'll wait for more details on the game.
would be interesting to see Harrison return as Indiana Jones in this game. 🤔
@Lordplops Well, I didn't read it here either! HAAAAAAhahahah
Welcome back to NintendoLife, where we regularly post about games that aren't even confirmed for our system so we can have an article to link when we inevitablly make our "looks like this isn't coming to Switch after all" article 5 years later
Yyyyyyyyyeeaah!
Indiana Jones game teased
Everyone else: This belong on the Xbox site
Me: Switch Pro confirmed. /s
"Dr. Jones, no time for love! We got company!"
Yeah I seriously doubt this is coming to Switch.
@Toy_Link ah, you're talking about the movie. I was confused for a second because The Last Crusade is usually referred to as IJ 3 (because it's based on the third movie) and Fate of Atlantis is IJ 4. So with Infernal Machine, Emperor's Tomb and Staff of Kings, this would be IJ 8.
Microsoft do not own them and will not until tthe latter half of 2021. What is journalistic accuracy?
Oh, it's a Damien article, no wonder.
@E1000 Probably. I don't see Machine Games making a point and click. And Emperor's Tomb was already basically an Uncharted game a few years before the first Uncharted even came out.
Huh, it's good to know that this Lucasfilm games isn't simply an excuse to mainly prop up Star Wars considering the absolute bunglefest that was the sequel trilogy and also not to mainly hand writing to the Lucasfilm Team considering again what's going on. Cautiously optimistic.
@Lordplops Probably need to get his autograph, again.
I hope the gameplay is just like Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb
@Toy_Link Stop. Hollywood will hear you.
So it's not going to be a point and click
@danielchavarr456 Or something like Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine.
This is really cool. Hopefully, this won't be in developmental heck like Indiana Jones 5 has been in.
I trust the studio behind it, even if I don't for Wolfenstein itself.
Also, when do you guys expect this to release, and how long do you think it's been in development for? 🤔
I know there were some exclusive console games in the past but Indy needs to be on all systems.
Most likely this game will be done on Id Tech 7, which is the engine that Doom Eternal uses, so it can come to the Switch. Time will only tell.
I am an Indiana Jones fanatic (Raiders is probably my all-time favorite film) and I need to play this. I've been dying for some more Indy stuff. Indy 5 is supposed to be released in 2022 so maybe this will try to coincide with that? Either way I just wish they wouldn't announce this stuff so early... it's gonna be hard to wait a few years for this haha
@Captain_Toad 'I've got his autograph...wait a minute..it's not signed Hitler....who's 'Mr Bronson'?'
@judaspete
Everyone's always in favor of saving Hitler's brain but when you put it in the body of a great white shark, oh suddenly you've gone too far!
I don't know if it'll be on Switch or not, But I do know I'm getting it on PC whenever it comes out.
Knowing the way Disney has been recently, the developers will be pressured to reinvent Indiana as a gay female of ethnic origin.
@Prizm I hope not! PC will ruin Indy
@Prizm People use these examples all the time to describe the way being politically correct has changed Hollywood and gaming characterization and I still can't even think of actual concrete examples of this happening, especially with franchise films
These descriptions sound super exaggerated.
@TheFrenchiestFry @Brummieendo90
I exaggerate, but probably not by much:

"'Pirates of the Caribbean' Reboot Moving Forward With A Female Lead"

"Marvel Reportedly Wants Most Of The MCU’s Heroes To Be Female Or POC Now"

@Prizm Ok problem 1: You actually bought into something from We Got this Covered, which is a news site that has literally been known to spout false garbage and call it a headline for literally anything in pop culture. They're literally never accurate on reporting
Problem 2: You bought into Disinsider, which is a news site that has literally been known to spout false garbage and call it a headline for literally anything in pop culture. They're literally never accurate on reporting
@TheFrenchiestFry @Prizm
Yeah, I wouldn't believe this because of articles from those sites, but I still think it might be true. Black Panther and Captain Marvel are the only solo (as in non-Avengers) MCU movies to take in over a billion dollars at the box office. Disney will always follow the money in the end.
@judaspete @TheFrenchiestFry - These were convenient links and I appreciate the sites may not always be accurate. I initially heard this from a few Youtube channels discussing it who believe it's very plausible.
@Prizm Those YT channels are no more reliable than any of those other sites you just listed. They make video titles and headlines with the sole purpose of stoking fires for people dissatisfied with the notion that a film or game franchise isn't what it used to be
