It seems so obvious: retro, pixel grid games work well with Minecraft's chunky blocks. That's exactly what builder team pickledscones and thelasteddieonearth (also known by their collective name, "Operation Hyrule") have done with their incredible recreation of Koholint Island from Link's Awakening, complete with big egg and all, and it looks amazing.
But this isn't just any Minecraft map. This one is playable. It has all the characters, bosses, and enemies of Link's Awakening, as well as custom textures that recreate the looks of the original. While the map isn't yet finished - they still have to add in the storyline - the final version will be available free of charge when it's ready.
Pickledscones has also been working on a scale reproduction of Hyrule with their co-builder CR00K1E, which you can keep up with on Reddit. So far, they've built the Temple of Time, Hyrule Castle, the graveyard, Death Mountain, Kakariko Village, and Castle Town.
You can visit the download page for Link's Awakening: Minecraft Version here, but be warned that it does require the Optifine mod to work.

The Legend of Zelda: The Awakening of the Intellectual Property Ninjas
The Rtx is just wow to look at.
Stunning. I can't imagine how many hours it took to make this.
Nice. I do not have enough patience for this type of thing, but the same can't be said for others.
It’s nice to see they did it, but the distribution part of their plan will probably end with a lawyer from Nintendo about copyrighted stories and characters.
I'm so glad we finally get a version of Links Awakening that's playable!!!
I'm sure the minecraft community could create a fully playable Star Citizen mod before the actual game is released (aka before the universe's heat death)
@theiRiS There are at least five other official versions of Link's Awakening that are playable.
Looks great but can we talk about the name Pickledscones...
I know you Brits like to use vinegar on your chips but pickled scones
That new links awakening remake looks different
@Deltath : Five?
@Silly_G I think that they were talking about versions of Link's Awakening in Minecraft.
my kids need to up their game, they always playing Minecraft and never squeeze anything like this out. But I suppose I wouldn't allow them to sit and play for how long it would take them to complete something like this because of health and wellbeing..
This is amazing!! We've had a whole article written about us— Thank you all!
@Silly_G please pray for us
@auck Nine hundred so far between us, and still going
@khululy the fact that the name screams "BRITAIN" in your face is something that I love dearly. Good day to you, sir/madam
@Low_ink somebody suggested that we put a racetrack around it and make it into chocolate mountain. I'm all for it
Props to whoever wrote the subtitle to this article! ^_^
@ObeseChihuahua2 : They said "official". A Minecraft adaptation would by definition be unofficial (unless Nintendo made it themselves, which of course won't happen).
@Silly_G It seems that the article put in that "official" as it doesn't say that anywhere on the planetminecraft page nor reddit post. but thanks for pointing it out
@pickledscones That sounds great!
