Recently, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered got its very first patch. It fixes and adjusts certain things and even improves the overall stability of the game.
The update for the Nintendo Switch version, in particular, improves the visual performance in a number of races and sorts out some technical issues with the status of online friends.
Below are the full patch notes, courtesy of the game's community manager via the Need for Speed subreddit. Enjoy!
Today we're releasing Patch 1 for Need for Speed™ Hot Pursuit Remastered - here are the update notes:
Audio
- Fixed an issue that could cause audio stuttering during races and cinematics.
- When you change the VOIP / Microphone settings, it should now persist to the lobbies you join going forward.
- VOIP system is now working as intended if a headset is plugged in after joining a multiplayer lobby.
- Speech to text should now be functional for players on the same platform.
- A similar issue also affected the text to speech audio being distorted, this is now resolved.
Lobbies
- Interceptor lobbies should now be limited to two players, as intended.
- The “Change Access” menu now properly disappears after a selection is made.
- Fixed an issue where players wouldn’t transition from the lobby to the race.
Visual / UI
- Players should no longer see voice icons from other platforms. In-game voice chat is available when cross-play is turned off. When cross-play is turned on, voice chat is restricted to each platform’s party chat system. This hint is now also shown in the privacy settings.
- You should no longer be able to get stuck on the driver details menu.
- When a friend beats your time, the correct date should now be displayed in the Autolog notification.
- When busted as a racer in a Hot Pursuit multiplayer event, the player list is now only shown once on screen.
- Autolog notifications should now display in the respective language if you change the console language and local settings.
- Trophies you should receive (for Cop / Racer ranks) should now unlock correctly, even retroactively if there are any you should have received, but haven’t.
- When using custom colors, the color displayed in the “last/recent” slots should now display correctly. It did most of the time, but there were a few scenarios where it wouldn’t.
- Fixed an occlusion issue on a mountain along Boulder Road.
- The Porsche Boxster Spyder now allows you to recreate “Speed Yellow” using the custom color palette.
- Some events were missing Speedwalls, these are now present and visible on the career map.
- The “Beauty and the Beasts” summary screen now shows the bounty earned for placing 3rd.
- When losing connection and reconnecting, the player avatar is shown correctly on the Speedwall.
- Notifications that a friend beat you in an Intercept event will no longer be cut off when scrolling at the bottom of the map screen, nor should they display random question marks.
- During the Most Wanted event intro, the correct names and symbols should now be displayed above vehicles.
- You should no longer encounter a short black screen when going to submenus from the pause menu during a multiplayer race.
- The car shadow should no longer flicker in the Police Station parking lot on Cascade Terrace Road.
- When you are viewing your own profile on PS4, the game you’re currently playing is now correctly shown.
- After sending/receiving a game invite request from a friend, a confirmation notification will now show as intended.
- When you’re in a single player race, the correct game mode is now reflected in your friends list and dashboard.
- The player avatar frame now disappears after the first loading screen.
- Player avatars should now be better aligned with names in result screens.
- When cross-play is enabled, the platform identifier should now also show next to the name during a race, not only on the leaderboard.
- With cross-play enabled, all platform identifier icons have the same shade / opacity of white.
- The VOIP icon no longer overlaps player names in cross-play multiplayer race outro screens.
- Players can now be added to the friends list from the “Recent Players” tab.
- In Photo Mode, the top part of the police car sirens is no longer blacked out when the “Show Damage” toggle is set to “on”.
- Removed a redundant line from the User Agreement.
- After changing the resolution multiple times, the intro cinematic to “My Career” should still render at full screen now.
- As some if you had pointed out, there was a Rank 21 shown as next rank. This was unintended and has now been fixed - Rank 20 is the highest rank.
Localization
- Traditional Chinese: The “Jammer” text in the HUD is now in the right place when all charges have been exhausted.
- All languages: Updated the localized Technical Support files in the Support folder of the game installation.
- Spanish: Long player names should no longer be overlapping in the “autolog recommends” section.
Stability
- When the “Most Wanted” quits during an ongoing race, all players should return to the menu as expected.
- Fixed an issue that could cause the game to crash when selecting career events.
- Restarting an event multiple times should no longer cause the game to crash.
- Fixed an issue that could cause the game to crash when selecting the Autolog Recommends menu.
- When joining a friend’s lobby while in photo mode, you should no longer encounter a black screen.
- Fixed an issue that could cause a crash during an arms race session.
- Fixed two issues that could occur during the “Unreasonable Force” event.
- Resolved an issue that could lead to the game hanging when sharing your time on the wall.
- You should now be able to frictionlessly join a friend after your game has been suspended on your console for a while.
Nintendo Switch
- Online status of friends is now showing correctly in the friends list.
- Improved visual performance on Barnstormer, Awe Inspired and Under Pressure.
See you on the streets of Seacrest County!

I'm still on the fence. Does the feel of the cars feel too heavy like it does in need for speed Wii u? Or the cars feel nice and light like they do in Burnout Paradise remastered? I really want to feel how they drive before I purchase.
Oh thank God, I wasn't gonna buy the game because of that, but now that they fixed that...
@HotGoomba___Rebrand Oops, just pretend you didn't see that!
I didn't know this came on the Switch.
But i don't actually care. I'm hoping if we ignore them long enough, EA will stop putting it's "video games" on the Switch.
Been playing on Switch, and it has some minor but annoying problems. Restarting takes like 20 seconds, and becomes a pain when I try to get 3 stars and restarts a ton. For the first second or so after resuming the game from the pause menu, the game would not register any inputs from the controller, which means you cannot turn or throttle out of the pause screen at all. Lack of detailed stats for each car also bothers me.
@Danrenfroe2016 They do feel rather heavy. But it is also made by the same people who made Burnout. So maybe you could still enjoy it.
Smash the hand break and its like ya gliding on ice around corners... actually super fun drifting mechanics
"Very first" my foot.
Wasn't there a day one download for the physical release?
The packaging even states that a download is required.
@Razer I think we should count our blessings that Switch even has third-party support after the Wii U, even if it includes legacy editions of FIFA. For what it’s worth, not everything EA does is bad. It’s just not often that those games come to Switch.
@nessisonett I agree. I think EA did a really good job with this port. And they basically came to the rescue in filling the arcade racer void the Switch had for way to long.
I will buy this one on Switch before burnout
@ReWane I really doubt EA care but just incase (I shouldn’t have bought an EA game, it’s always the same buggy crap):
https://answers.ea.com/t5/NFS-Hot-Pursuit-Remastered/Un-pausing-the-game-leaves-a-second-or-so-with-no-control-or/m-p/9796228#M657
Not my favorite NFS but it's still a decent racing game for the Switch.
@Pikman LOL, glad to know I'm not the only one noticing that. Ya EA probably doesn't care .
This game is surprisingly good for an EA game on the Switch.
I like it!
@Danrenfroe2016 @Yanina that’s interesting you mention that. I think they have the physics spot on. Rather than have a disconnect between the car and the road where it feels like an object floating along.
It’s really well done, the cars are anchored to the world you’re driving in, with the weight.
I wouldn’t say it’s too heavy. It makes the driving feel more satisfying when you do it well.
This patch come out over a week ago!
Thanks for the patch, now port most wanted to the Switch, the Wii U version would be fine.
@Danrenfroe2016 from the cars that I've unlocked so far I think each has a different handling.
Some are heavier than others to drive and I honestly cannot say that it's too different from what I felt when playing Burnout.
Each car there has a different handling too.
I highly recommend GRID AUTOSPORT for Nintendo Switch, it's very fun!
Enjoyed it on 360 and enjoying it on switch. Another arcade racer on switch is not a bad thing. After the disappointing hot shot racing I am glad I have this to play.
It's just the best arcade racer on Switch.
Bought this and Burnout around Black Friday. Both are wonderful. I like Burnout slightly better, though.
@SnesSwitch I second that recommendation for Grid. I have played a few racing games on switch and i like it the best. But i am tempted to get either Need for Speed or Burnout. Does anyone know which game has quicker load times? That is my (minor) pet peeve about most racing games.
@nessisonett i agree about third parties, hell im even ok with 2k, i buy their games. But on EA, sorry i don't agree.
The video game industry as a whole would be better off if EA died.
Their games bring nothing to the Switch and in fact, i would go so far as to say, particularly their FIFA gambling games. It would be best if we got no FIFA at all.
It won't effect the Switch's success one bit. Their games may help shift PS4s/5 and Xboxes but at this stage, with the dribble their are putting on the Switch. Their games add absolutely no value to the Switch at all.
The Switch wouldn't have sold any more or less if we get FIFA or not.
In many cases they even go out of their way to highlight Nintendo's shortcomings in the power department. Legacy versions indeed.
@Razer "Their games bring nothing to the Switch"
It's one of the few arcade racing games on the machine...
@tatanga there are plenty of better racing games.
I stick by what i said, besides most those Arcade racers are developers that EA have taken over and they haven't made good games in the better part of a decade.
So no again i don't agree. It would have been better if those companies were never purchased by EA...
We may still be getting good burnout and need for speed games.
@Razer they just brought an arcade racer to switch that I and others enjoy, same with burnout. Fine, I get you don't buy EA games but the whole "I hope they never release games on switch again" rant is pretty pathetic. Screw the rest of us just so you can be happy you got what you wanted. That's pretty childish!
@Razer there isn't plenty of better racing games on switch. Burnout and NFS hot pursuit remastered are the best arcade racing games on switch if we exclude Mario kart!
@tatanga just because they own the rights to these arcade racers, doesn't make them a good company and it doesn't mean they've added value to the Switch.
@kobashi100 it's called "not knowing whats good for you".
EA are a plague on the video game industry with their practices, if you support such disgusting practices thats your shortcomings but don't expect me to not voice my opinion about them because you want to keep giving them an excuse to be the way they are.
You telling me not to voice my opinion is pathetic.
@kobashi100 no their not the best. Try Fast RMX.
Have you tried Gear Club Unlimited 2? The game is exclusive on the Switch, the developers have been updating the game for years and its a lot better than it was on release.
It's a proper racing game thats a Switch exclusive.
Why don't you support them? Do you own the game?
@Razer who said you can't voice you're opinion. Your opinion is not what I agree on as like I said before people like the fact these games are available on switch.
As for gear club 2. Being exclusive I don't care about one bit as I am not a child who signs up to console fanboy BS. The game sucks hard. If it was good I would buy but it really isn't. It is nowhere near the level of burnout or NFS hot pursuit.
@Razer thank you for the Gear Club rec, I'm surprised I somehow missed this when looking for a racing game earlier this year (or maybe it just got lost in the flood)...looks great and will pick up
@kobashi100 awesome good to know, getting this too, although I think I missed a sale recently
@Razer I think I know why you can't get through that massive backlog you have. You're too busy on here debating video game nonsense. Get on those games
Back on topic I must say this game is awesome on Switch and its great to see the support its getting. I don't like EA either but this one was just too hard for me to pass. They do need to fix the multiplayer bug of spawning on top of each other though.
@kobashi100 Gear Club was bad on release but it's been updated a lot, they've made great changes and the game has come a long way.
It's not as good as the games you've mentioned but it's still a decent game. If you like racers then this isn't one to sleep on anymore, the updates have improved the game a fair bit.
Unfortunately the reviews don't reflect this, but the game is quite cheap nowadays. You can pick it up on a bargain and there's easily 40-50 hours of content here.
Now think about this for a second, like i said, this game is exclusive on the Switch, supporting this game means more exclusive support from the developers who made the game.
Supporting that cause in my opinion is better than supporting EA's practices.
@RustedHero well as you can see by the above post, my job is to actually sell games on here it seems 😂
@Razer I would rather have the option than not have the option. Isn’t more choice a good thing?
@rockodoodle i would rather the choice not to include a company such as EA, they've killed off 50% of the good developers that were making games throughout the early 00s.
Companies like BioWare, Westwood Studios (remember the heroes of might and magic games...) - Criterion Games (my friend actually worked here between 2002 and 2007, he said the first 2 years were the best years of work he ever had).
I personally watched EA take many video game companies i love and ruin them.
WatchMojo made a YouTube video on 10 companies EA have destroyed: https://youtu.be/KiEtAXu7vYw
Let me ask you, if you would rather the choice of having those companies back or choosing to continue support for the company that killed them?
Personally, i love video games, so because of that i have to be vocal against EA for the reasons i have stated above. They are a genuine cancer on this industry and they are genuinely doing damage to the industry by existing.
@rockodoodle i mean... do you even realise how many video game franchises DO NOT exist anymore because of EA? Do you know How many great games we have missed because EA exist?
Honestly... what kind of choice is that?
@ReWane unfortunately, I’m certain you are right :/
@Razer You should check this one out. EA executes "Order 66".
https://youtu.be/Qi6yCJklTvo
It's really sad
@Razer SO, you're boycotting them even when they work on great games, in a rare category ?
The result > what you're fighting against.
Well, Fight your fight, ignore them, but let us enjoy.
@tatanga i haven't purchased a single one of their products since 2012.
After Mass Effect 3.
But go ahead, knock yourself out, their lack of support on the Switch proves the majority of the community are with me.
@RustedHero I've seen this and so many more. It's actually quite sad but it perfectly embodies what EA have done to our community.
How they have been able to continue to exist is a crime against gamers.
@Razer I definitely understand where you're coming from in regards on your stance with EA. It's how I feel towards Gearbox. What they did to Aliens Colonial Marines broke my heart in so many pieces I will never buy anything of theirs again. And that was just one game. What EA has done is pure genocide. I'm with you I don't understand how they're still in business.
@RustedHero them being in business is a crime against gamers, what they have done to the gaming landscape over the past 15+ years is, as you said, a genocide.
Some people have short memories and are generally fickle (not in a bad way) when it comes to such long term damage, many gamers today were mere kids when EA started to embody an actual demon sent from the pits of hell.
I don't blame anyone for forgetting or not realising the whole scope of the damage they have caused.
But i for one will never EVER forget what they have done to the industry i hold dear. I trust you won't either.
@RustedHero the true scope is the things we never got from the developers they killed.
Sure Mass Effect died, as did Aliens Colonial Marines, Heroes of Might And Magic and many many others have been killed off by them, many we know.
But the scope is the ones we could have gotten, IPs that COULD have been made but never were because a monstrous company strangled their creativity and drove away the hearts of those businesses.
The true damage isn't the IPs that we know about, but the IPs that we don't, the one's that those developers never got a chance to make.
That is the real crime in what they've done.
@Primarina i would say yes, fair enough on that point, a change in leadership and general direction would be a step in the right direction.
A return of some old IPs that they've killed off. It's fair to say, especially now, companies shouldn't be going under and risking more jobs. No i will agree with that.
But where i will NOT agree, is that any of that fantasy (EA changing) is ever possible, EA has long been lost to the corporate structure of "numbers are all that matter". That will never change
They embody that structure and there isn't any saving them, sure we can imagine that they may make these steps towards redemption.
But they won't.
You are right to say, they shouldn't go under for those reasons. I agree with that, but morally and for the sake of the video game industry, they should certainly go under.
@Primarina one could really even argue that EA being allowed to continue being in business, will eventually and in the long term, if they keep killing developers, cost more jobs and ruin more lives in the long term.
@Primarina I can agree with some of what you say too, you know my thoughts so i won't repeat them.
On the Team Cherry point, i could not agree more. Really great development team, only 3 people too?
I genuinely cannot wait for Silk Song.
@Razer I gotta admit that Gear Club is better than advertised. I didn’t think it was bad at all when released. I need to revisit....
@Razer dont reply if you cant come up with anything good but your altered opinion that doesnt align with the rest of us...
This is a great port. And so is burnout paradise.. razor would no that if he actually played the games and stopped bitchen about ea
So is this patch only in the U.K.? I got the game physical several weeks ago and there was a big mandatory install but I haven't seen a patch since
@KnightsTemplar yeah because im definitely the only one who hates EA.
Now pass me whatever it is you're smoking, i need some 🤣🤣
@Silly_G you only need that additional download if you want to play online, at least I have been fine on single player so far without downloading anything
So are they just pretending the original need for speed never was released? This is need for speed rebooted remastered.
@tourjeff ok. Yeah I just really did not like the Wii U version of need for speed all the cars felt too heavy I don't know if you've played that version or not but to me they just all felt too heavy and not responsive enough.
@PiXeLSteF : Either way, like DOOM, it's a chunk of the game that they deliberately excluded from the cartridge. Considering that it is a port (?) of a decade old game, it's pathetic that the Wii disc (from two generations ago) is complete on disc, while the future console doesn't even contain what its predecessor had on the supplied media.
I'm just bummed because I was looking forward to finally having a Need For Speed game on Switch, and EA manages to screw up the physical release in this way. At least they did a good job with Burnout Paradise, but it's bothersome that they cannot at least be consistent. I'm fed up with publishers rushing unfinished games to shelves to meet deadlines to the detriment of the final product. Like I referenced earlier, this never would have happened during the Wii period (for better and for worse, but overwhelmingly for the better).
Is this game gonna be like asphalt 9 legends where as soon as i turn it off it almost breaks my ssutch?
@Silly_G a game that can be played online will basically always require updates to keep up with potential bugs or exploits that ruin the online experience
@PiXeLSteF : That is completely untrue. The Wii has had countless online games, none of which had required an update because the games were complete on disc. Likewise, there are plenty of games on Switch with online multiplayer, one such example that I own being Resident Evil Revelations 1, that have not been patched at all (i.e. Version 1.0).
