Koei Tecmo's official websites have been temporarily closed after the European branch was hit by a cyber attack.
In a press release issued on 29th December, Koei Tecmo confirmed forum login details of about 65,000 accounts had been leaked. This includes account names, passwords (in an encrypted state) and mail addresses. Fortunately, no credit card details, customer or employee information appear to have been stolen.
If you navigate to the American or European Koei Tecmo websites, you'll be presented with the following message:
"Due to the possibility of an external cyberattack on this website, it is temporarily closed as we investigate the issue."
Anyone with a Koei Tecmo account is advised to update their password as soon as possible.
This latest cyber attack follows on from a huge Capcom leak last month, which saw around 1TB of sensitive data allegedly stolen and has seemingly revealed many of the company's upcoming projects ahead of schedule.
Koei Tecmo most recently assisted with Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity and will release Atelier Ryza 2 on the Switch early next year.

OMG, I almost had a heart attack reading that title!
Eugh, another one. Really hope employees don’t take the brunt of it this time.
Is it a lack of competent security or more hacking due to the pandemic? Probably both but I'm not an expert. I wonder if Brian Krebs or someone else will comment on this.
They've been reported to the cyber police, consequences will never be the same
Really, again? Why couldn't they have just gotten some source code and been done? I'd love to be able to see some of their games' code, but they had to steal login info, so we all get screwed in the end.
Well it seems like a great time to start getting our gaming info through the radio, that or just go completely retro. These companies ask for our info when playing their games(looking at you EA/Bethesda) just for hackers to get that treasure trove of information they can sell.
@TheLightSpirit Heh, anti-virus is useless. Ad blockers are where it's at. Malware comes from ads, instead of software to remove it after the fact (that often doesn't work), stop it at the source. Malware even comes as extensions so Chromebooks are vulnerable too.
that proved this website still don't have enough security.
This is why companies need to pay their IT/HelpDesk more then their CEO.
As far as I know, this cyber attack has been going on for at least a week. I tried looking up info on Nobunaga's Ambition Taishi on PS4 on the 22nd and it gave me a notification that the website was closed temporarily due to cyber attack.
Ugh black hats are the worst. And of course it gets encouraged because if they stole game data and leak it, everyone gives them more attention. Vicious cycle of human greed.
If any fool of CEO thought this is a simple problem this should be a example of reducing CEO pays to give more resources to IT/HelpDesk to secure the IP from theft. This is why companies are easy targets for cyber thieves around the world they could care less about their IP but their own Gold Parachutes.
